Is it fun to stay in the YMCA?

I'm contemplating booking into the YMCA in Boston for a night, as it seems like it's very cheap but provides way better facilities than more expensive places to stay.

Will this be a terrible mistake, or a great opportunity for me to hang out with all the boys?

dv, when you're short on your dough, you can stay there, and I'm sure you will find many ways to have a good time.

its actually a really good place, quiet, clean, safe and well constructed--also its reputations for casual gay sex is deeply over rated, only ever getting a handjob once.

The Boston Y has a nice pool and pretty good yoga classes. I've seen some monstrous "boys" in the locker room, but I have no idea about the people actually staying there.

Dude, the location is awesome. You will be right across the street from Symphony Hall and about four blocks away from everything.

The Boston Y was second only to the Halifax one in terms of location. Never spent the night there myself.

The Y in Boston (on Huntington Ave.) is the oldest in the country. Definately great location. You can't have guests come up to your room. I used to go to that gym but never stayed. I know people who have stayed at the Vanderbuilt Y in NYC, which was recommended.

do rooms in YMCA's typically have their own bathrooms, or would I have to be sharing showers with the guy who once gave Anthony a hand shandy?

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 13 May 2005 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

oh wait, why didn't I look at their website. Doh.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 13 May 2005 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

It's fun to have box lunch at the Y -- oh wait.

In case you're wondering, it turns out to be functional to stay at the YMCA. The rooms are kind of Spartan, and while not dirty do give the impression of not having been redecorated in some time.

No one offered me a hand shandy.

I did too. It was where Community Service Volunteers housed people volunteering on their projects. We got moved when someone got stabbed outside the front door.

three years pass...

And now...:

The YMCA is now known officially as just ''the Y.''

The Chicago-based U.S. nonprofit announced Monday that it is changing both its logo and name to ''the Y,'' marking its first branding change in 43 years. The switch comes after more than two years of research indicated many people don't understand what the group does. Officials with the Y say they hope the new logo will be more inviting.
