i have been craving this for weeks!

We've been making oven-fried chicken lately. OMG.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 13 May 2005 23:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I had this big craving for Popeye's chicken the other day, so my boyfriend and I got an 8-piece meal, and we each ate one piece enthusiastically, then sort of fizzled out halfway through the second piece and couldn't eat any more. I don't think I'll need fried chicken again for at least three months. That first piece was heavenly, though.

i had a spicy thigh for lunch, and while i was there one of the cashiers got fired!

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 14 May 2005 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

"there" being popeyes. i felt bad for her because i guess that means no more free fried chicken dinners

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 14 May 2005 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Did she get fired for giving you a free spicy thigh, Phil?

kirsten (kirsten), Saturday, 14 May 2005 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i wish i got free spicy thighs! im not really sure what she got fired for, but i got to the front of the line and the manager (short indian dude with a really really dirty shirt) kept yelling at the employee (tall fat black woman with enormous breasts) to "go home! you're fucking fired!". and her going "i can't believe you going to cuss me out in front of customers". then me going "also i'd like a small cherry coke please".

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 14 May 2005 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Bless you, Phil.

i crave fried chicken constantly, but my girlfriend won't eat the stuff. I think I'll go to KFC this weekend when I'm in RI. I miss drive-thru dining.

Ian John50n (orion), Saturday, 14 May 2005 04:45 (twenty-one years ago)

according to popeyes.com, there are 14 franchises within 2.78 miles of my home in williamsburg, brooklyn. but none of them are within walking distance - a shame.

j blount (papa la bas), Saturday, 14 May 2005 04:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't think that's quite enough grounds for dumping the gf. i guess i overstated: she'll eat it if i make it, she's just opposed for some reason to KFC and popeye's. probably the years she spent as a vegetarian.

Ian John50n (orion), Saturday, 14 May 2005 05:16 (twenty-one years ago)

One of the reasons that I love living here in TX: Golden Chick. i.e., the best fried chicken out there, period. SOOOOOO good, and the sides are equally wonderful. AND they give you YEAST ROLLS with your dinner! So yummy.

(They only operate in TX right now, save for a couple of stores in OK.)

Goodbye Indian Summer (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 14 May 2005 05:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone tried Pollo Campero? It's a Guatemalan chain that's got a few franchises around DC, and there's usually a ridiculous line. KFC bettah watch out, or at least get an anime-ish super-team of their own.

i live near a couple of ghetto supermarkets where you can get the general size equivalent of a "bucket" of fried chicken pieces for like $3.99. they're tasty too, especially eaten cold just out of the fridge. i only bought them once, when i had a mad craving, but i got three or four dinners out of it!

This Korean greaseless version sounds pretty amazing--especially the way sauces figure in. I wonder if any London Koreans do it.

g00blar (gooblar), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 09:52 (nineteen years ago)

You bastards.

I got chicken last night :(

I saw it again this morning if you know what I mean.

Should my restorative spicy chicken lunch be fried or jerked?

You decide.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 11:12 (nineteen years ago)

Avoided! Do you learn nothing from my mistakes at the doors of Amir's Fried Chicken?

in that case his love should definitely be jerked all over.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 11:27 (nineteen years ago)

I need something very restorative for lunch. Suggest something that isn't chicken! I know this thread is ABOUT chicken but WHAT OF IT. Otherwise I will have some sort of M&S beef sandwich I will inevitably be disappointed by. I work around Goodge St.

Bhumibol Adulyadej (Lucretia My Reflection), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 11:31 (nineteen years ago)

A big bowl of vegetable yukecha [sp] from Polo by centrepoint.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 11:32 (nineteen years ago)

What about that 'risotto bar' (Ooze?), on Goodge st? That sounds restorative.

g00blar (gooblar), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 11:34 (nineteen years ago)

Suggesting something called "yuckecha" to someone with a rotten hangover is innovative! What, erm, is yuckecha?

Gooblar has unfortunately hit on another foodstuff I can't face - I once got quite manky food poisoning from a friend's risotto and have never been able to eat it since. Also - you know - the place is called Ooze! I can't see it lasting!

Bhumibol Adulyadej (Lucretia My Reflection), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 11:44 (nineteen years ago)

Yukecha is a spicy soup with noodles served in a heated stone bowl so it is still boiling when it arrives on the table it feature kimchi and other tasty vegetable delights in it. (can also be found with seafood, pork or chicken in it)

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 11:46 (nineteen years ago)

Your search - yuckecha - did not match any documents.

Suggestions:
Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
Try different keywords.
Try more general keywords.

I ph34r Ed is making this up! But a spicy soup in a stone bowl sounds exciting! I might be a bit too scared to go by myself to a place where I recognise none of the menu w/o someone to hold my hand though. Hello I am 25 :(

Bhumibol Adulyadej (Lucretia My Reflection), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

How come I can buy a dozen varieties of junk food for my lunch in the city centre of this mouldy old burg but I can't get fried chicken anywhere.

For the last few months all I ever want to eat is chicken.

It's Tough to Beat Illious (noodle vague), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 11:50 (nineteen years ago)

My spelling of yuketcha may be somewhat off.

Best lunch place in that area. Friendly owner, £5 lunch specials.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 11:53 (nineteen years ago)

Google suggests, after inputting several permutations: Yook-gae-jang! HOW crazy is Korean pronounciation and could that be likely! Arf.

I think I might have to get someone to come with me to Korean place soon! My tummy is rumbling. Perhaps I should just BE A (wo)MAN and go!

Bhumibol Adulyadej (Lucretia My Reflection), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 11:55 (nineteen years ago)

That is the main reason I miss working in that neck of the woods.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 11:56 (nineteen years ago)

I've been dreaming for years of KFC doing a bucket of skin, just a bucket of spice-coated fried chicken skin - probably lethal, but such a beautiful way to go.

it's official: korean fried chicken is going to be a trend (at least in nyc). there was a raft of posts about where to find it on chowhound late last year, and now the ny times dining section.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

can we get good korean food in london or is it supposedly all bad like chinese, mexican etc. ?

vita susicivus (blueski), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

No, good korean can be had. Try the New Seoul on Clerkenwell Rd, (certified by former resident of Korea, TOMBOT) , or the Polo by Centrepoint. There is a good oriental supermarket with lots of korean stuff by centrepoint too and an all korean one in Golders Green.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

Nashville has Prince's Hot Chicken (made famous by the Yo La Tengo song). It's delicious, but takes FOREVER. Mr. Pike and I found 400 Degree Chicken, which was amazing as well (if not better than Prince's). We eat it on white bread down here, and dump some coleslaw and pickles on it too. Mmmm.

molly mummenschanz (mollyd), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 20:53 (nineteen years ago)

guess what i had for dinner tonight -- BECAUSE OF THIS THREAD.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 8 February 2007 02:42 (nineteen years ago)

Mrs. Winner's! Our last apartment in NC was around the corner from a Mrs. Winner's, which we also called Mrs. Wieners. Actually, our last meal in NC was chicken biscuits from Mrs. Winners, eaten in the pre-dawn on the floor of our empty dining room while we waited for the cat valium to kick in so we could stuff the sleepy cats in their boxes for the ride to Chicago.

Steve Guttenberg's Midnight Runner (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 8 February 2007 03:54 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, my page stopped loading with one line to go, and I could have sworn you were admitting to taking cat valium.

DO you folx like CHURCH's? I eat there all the time as it's three blocks away and super cheap. But I have been sick and as I walked by there yesterday, a sign advertising 10 LEGS & THIGHS FOR $5.95 started to make me nauseous. I had to sit down for some deep breaths before continuing to my destination. CAN I ever eat CHURCH's again? Would you?
