Would a John Carpenter-directed "Alien" movie be any good?

The guy has a knack for characters, and he has already done a flick where a group of folks encounter a xenomorph. I'm wonder what would happen if you gave him the genre trappings of an Alien flick(chestbursters, sci-fi, Sigourney Weaver, etc). Would he be able to pull it off?

Also, would he be allowed to do the soundtrack himself again?

Er, yeah, The Thing was his direct rip-off homage to Alien, he's admitted as much.

John Carpenter needs to be firmly retired.

serious? if that's actually true my head's gonna explode.

speaking of which, i always wished david cronenberg would have accepted the offer to do alien resurrection. now, THATS somebody who could've take the alien series to interesting places.

john carpenter needs to be put to rest, and shouldn't be let within 100 yards of a camera.

latebloomer: the rebel sound of grits and bacon (latebloomer), Saturday, 14 May 2005 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess I'm out of it. Who do you mean by mcg? And please don't say it's this flushable load.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Saturday, 14 May 2005 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

John Carpenter can't even make his own movies any good anymore. I don't think there's much life left in the Alien concept anyhow. The premise is pretty one-note, isn't it? About the best take was the Aliens comics series back in the late 80s. Unless somebody films that, I'd just as soon them give it up.

Sparkle Motion's Rising Force (Sparkle Motion's Rising Force), Saturday, 14 May 2005 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i actually think there's a lot you can do with aliens (like the myriad scenarios portrayed in the comics, or the bizarre, unrealized medieval wooden space station/monastery idea for alien 3).

it's just that the approach the studio always took was the most conservative, and held back by depending on sigourney weaver being in it.

yep, it's him. shameful! i hope blount was kidding.

alien resurrection may have problems but "conservative"?? and boo to alien movies with no ripley in them
