Be strong.

Huk-L, Monday, 16 May 2005 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

don't do it. you won't enjoy it in the slightest AND will feel dirty.

Pete W (peterw), Monday, 16 May 2005 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

You're sending mixed messages, Pete.

Lighting up would be like diving down the toilet for the opium suppository.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Monday, 16 May 2005 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

but the sight of menthol salems in a smokes shop in barcelona...
man alive. and the range! the choice over there! stacks of different menthols i'm tellin you.

piscesboy, Monday, 16 May 2005 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

piscesboy, I quit 8 years ago + still get occasional pangs. It happens. You've dealt with them before, you can deal with them this time. Drink some water, go for a walk, call someone, just don't light up. You don't need me to tell you how much you'd regret it.

stevo (stevo), Monday, 16 May 2005 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

don't do it, DEFINITELY don't do it for fucking MENTHOLS!!!!!!

Menthols are fucking awful.

I stopped smoking (ha! NLP not giving up etc) 17 months ago (used to be 30-40 a day) and on a stag do in Berlin a few months was running one under my nose (unlit) and telling my friends how good the smell was and put it in my mouth and mimicked smoking it. I didn't light it, even though I kept falling asleep at the bar, to be woken up whenever a round was being bought, where my chums hilariously got me to think that

The sadism of my friends aside, the crucial point it that I was so drunk I couldn't remember the previous 4 rounds I'd bought, and yet I didn't crack. My behaviour caused me shame and pride at the same time.

My Dad gave up smoking 15 cigars (inhaling them too) after a heart attack. That was 13 years ago, and he still gets pangs when we're in the pub together.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 16 May 2005 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

15 cigars AT A TIME?!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 16 May 2005 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I no longer have the pangs. It's been 20 years since I smoked. The pangs lasted intermittently for the first ten though.

Aimless (Aimless), Monday, 16 May 2005 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i gave up nearly 11 months ago and the strongest pangs were in the 10th month. i always feel like i'm one incredibly stressful event away from falling off the wagon.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 16 May 2005 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure he'd have tried. No, 15 per day.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 16 May 2005 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

quitting smoking is fucking HARD

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Monday, 16 May 2005 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i've "quit" (sometimes for over a year!) five or six times.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Monday, 16 May 2005 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i always start smoking again either in

(a) a moment of drunkenness and general revelry
(b) a moment of severe stress

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Monday, 16 May 2005 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i also quit smoking during times of severe stress. i make most major decisions (or unmake major decisions) at such times.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Monday, 16 May 2005 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't give those fuckers any more money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

peepee (peepee), Monday, 16 May 2005 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
these really aren't going away. i'm holding things to my mouth and pretending to smoke them! maybe i need some menthol tooth picks.

piscesboy, Thursday, 30 June 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

nearly one year on and the pangs are stronger than they were a month after quitting
