And no, it's not Gibson.

Pitchfork cleared Nick Sylvester’s reviews from their site after it was discovered he fabricated parts of a Village Voice cover story, a move most would say was unnecessary, but in the end it was Pitchfork’s call.

This bizarre statement links to ... the page it appears on, apparently citing itself as evidence of itself

What’s great about this post is how you jump to outrageous, reactionary conclusions without knowing any of the details of what you’re discussing.

of course I think boing boing is pretty much a hideous cringefest as well so they deserve each other.

akm, Monday, 30 June 2008 18:44 (seventeen years ago)

Without getting into the relative worth/relevance of Boing Boing and Violet Blue, it's worth noting that news sites delete old stories all the time. It's their site, they can do what they want. I suppose that Violet Blue's supporters have a point since BB has been so histrionic about on-line rights and freedoms, but only when it's congruent with Battelle's Federated Media which owns them.

Honestly, I believe that BB hurts the cause more than it helps.

wait so was this because boing boing didn't like that she sued that porn actress who had been using the name before her? good for them. from what i can tell she was and is completely in the wrong on this matter.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 21:16 (seventeen years ago)

one of the things that makes me most uneasy about the internet is the regular practice of major news outlets retracting their stories months (or even minutes) after posting, more than once I've forwarded some current event story to a friend of some cnn.com story and the link is dead before they get the e-mail. and scrolling through old ILX threads that kick off with only a dead news link is so disturbing -- sure it's their site and they can do what they want, but with news sites it makes for a complete lack of accountibility for anything they're propagating -- there's a big difference between pulling the bad information out of the loop and 'we were never wrong'

so it's not that this isn't commonplace among news outlets, it's just a very slight credibility hit for BB as an alternative news source, and it looks from the comments that their admin is concerned about figuring out a policy
