...the birth of Cyrus Stiles Seward at 8:30 this monday morning at Mass General overlooking the majestic Charles River. 7 pounds 11 ounces and cute as a button. Actually, he looks a lot like what Rufus looked like when he was born. Red hair and everything. Even the same stork bite on his forehead that both Rufus & Maria have. (Maria's only shows up now when she is yelling at me.) Anyway, Maria is fine. Baby is fine. We are stopping at two lil' metal warriors. Maria had a c-section (20 hours of labor last time before an emergency c-section cuzza the big heads in my family and the way Maria is built made us choose a scheduled c-section this time.) and had her tubes tied. Life is beautiful. I love my little family. I will try to post pictures when I can. Grandma has the camera. Best wishes to all of you on this very cool day. Maria will have a lot to say once she is out and about.

Thanks, you guys! You are all really nice. Since I am drunk now, I will take the time to say that I have really appreciated the niceness and friendliness of the ILX gang over the last couple of years. Especially since we moved away from my home in Philly and away from my long-time pals and chums. You all have definitely made me feel less weird and isolated in a strange new place.

And Ian, Rufus is really getting used to the idea of having a new little brother. He was such a great kid today during all the confusion. He is really taking it in stride. I don't know what I did to deserve such a smart, happy boy.

Awww man sorry I wasn't doing the ILE thing sooner - CONGRATULATIONS SCOTT AND MARIA!!!! So completely psyched for both of you (and Rufus too!).

Two is a good number - no only child, no middle child. They're close enough in age to watch out for each other too. How's Maria gonna deal with a whole house of men?

So I'm finally feeling a little better. Cyrus has grown half an inch and gained an ounce a day since he was born. Babies have superpowers! All that growing makes him supersleepy. Rufus is being such a great big bro, petting his head very gently.

Breastfeeding is a big challenge. Is there a La Leche League thread? A nipple pain commisseration thread? If it doesn't get better in a week, I'll probably do what I did with Rufus because he could n't latch: pump milk. Cyrus latches all too well. Aieeeee! Like being stung on the nips for a half hour straight. It's every two hours, so a real job.

So far though I find this time much easier. We know that we can handle parenting and aren't constantly checking to make sure he's breathing. The first time I was pregnant I found myself wondering what kind of parent I would be and Scott would be -- wondering if we'd have any differences. Now I know we're on the same page about how to handle kids and that when Scott said he'd do his share, he meant it (and then some). I'm lucky.

We feel like a happy healthy family. A sleepy family.
