Fox orders another season of critically acclaimed Arrested Development
NEW YORK (AP) — Fox has removed one of the biggest mysteries of its fall schedule announcement, saying it has renewed the Emmy-winning comedy Arrested Development for a third season.
The quirky show starring Jason Bateman has been a hit with critics, but not with viewers. It is averaging 5.9 million viewers this season, ranking No. 122 on the Nielsen list. Already-cancelled shows like 8 Simple Rules, Committed and Complete Savages did better.
But Peter Liguori, the new Fox entertainment president, said he was making it his first official series pickup since taking the job.
“Arrested Development is one of the best comedies on television,” Liguori said. “The decision to order another season becomes easy when you consider its amazing cast, creative brilliance, critical acclaim and advertiser appeal.”
Fox unveils its fall schedule this Thursday.

That's odd, Huck, didn't you see Leon's announcement of this on the thread yesterday?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

advertiser appeal...with club sauce

Huk-L, Tuesday, 17 May 2005 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

No.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 17 May 2005 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm going to slink off into the shadows like the weird brother of prime rib now.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 17 May 2005 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

That's ok. New thread! Now with 70% less hand-wringing!

slightly more subdued (kenan), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

It's happy enough news to post in more than one place!

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

But what about "Stacked"?

I saw it once and called for a fatwah on all those involved.

andy --, Tuesday, 17 May 2005 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I said it on the other thread and am more than happy to say it again:
YAY

adam (adam), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

COCKA-COCKA-COCKA!

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

But yeah, when is season two out on DVD? Fox usually has a pretty fast turnaround on these, don't they?

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Probably it'll coincide with the start of Season 3. If they're smart, which they just proved they are.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 17 May 2005 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, they will most certainly have the season 2 dvd out by the end of August. Half the reason they brought this show back was for the dvd business.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, maybe more like the middle of fall. Fox doesn't start their fall season until November these days.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

But really, the sooner the better in terms of buzz building...

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I want it now, I'm an impatient sort.

Leon Federline (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

me too!

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too...with club sauce.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

getarrested.com has said "returns this summer" no?

Huk-L, Tuesday, 17 May 2005 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I still have most of the season saved on my tivo!

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

"returns in encore presentation this summer"

dang.

Can't find the original AD thread (though surely it's out there?)

HOPEFUL DEVELOPMENT? Executive producer Brian Grazer telling CNN Headline News' Showbiz Tonight he's in talks with other networks about picking up Arrested Development after Fox axed the offbeat Emmy-winning comedy from its schedule.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 1 December 2005 19:00 (twenty years ago)

Eh. I've heard no other network is interested in picking it up because the cost is too high.

Lars and Jagger (Ex Leon), Thursday, 1 December 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

A proven ratings-loser with an A-List Cast and high production values can't find a network? COME ON!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 1 December 2005 19:05 (twenty years ago)

worst show ever

oooh, Thursday, 1 December 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 1 December 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

I've been saying this show is overrated so that I don't have to actually watch it. But I think I was actually right. I'm on the hater side too.

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 1 December 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

yeah who couldve guessed that david cross making ironic sex jokes would be lame

oooh, Thursday, 1 December 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

I've heard that when the show is completely, utterly cancelled, there will be a dispersal draft, with David Cross heavily favoured to join the cast of According to Jim.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 1 December 2005 19:19 (twenty years ago)

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 1 December 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

yeah dude, you got me, i hate shows about white people

oooh, Thursday, 1 December 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

did you read that in oops's diary or something

oooh, Thursday, 1 December 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

OK, if you don't, then justify how that description actually makes any sense.

It was v. disappointing.

(¬_¬) (Nicole), Thursday, 23 September 2010 14:18 (fifteen years ago)

I want to give it a couple episodes (hated AD after one episode), but it's too much like Arrested Development to not not pale in contrast (seems unwise to have the overbearing omniscient narrator also be an on-screen character, not giving us a sympathetic lead, etc). A lot of funny bits, though.

da croupier, Thursday, 23 September 2010 14:42 (fifteen years ago)

i can imagine it improving now that the premise (gob and lindsay as starcrossed lovers) is established, esp if they cut down maebe's narration and just bring on the riffs.

da croupier, Thursday, 23 September 2010 14:45 (fifteen years ago)

the pilot was like a children's bbc comedy.

caek, Thursday, 23 September 2010 18:49 (fifteen years ago)

credentials of cast and creators and past experience means I'm going to go with it for a few more weeks, but the pilot was really fucking terrible.
