when you're speaking to a couple and one of them mentions the other and they look at each other and make some sort of conspiratorial lovey-dovey gesture, classic or dud?

i.e., "i just didn't know what i was doing with my life until i met [x]" (cue lovey-dovey gesture, e.g. holding hands, cocking of the chin, etc.)

I sense the acid on the cheek-piercing tongues.

i should have used "e.g." rather than "i.e." in the first instance.

I sat across from one of these couples on the subway a few days ago. When they would talk they'd conclude every point with the cutesy eyes and a peck on the lips. ugh.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

great way to make people uncomfortable.

What might be worse is the following: you might be one of the lovey dovey couple and your buddies might be enjoying witnessing the spectacle instead of being appropriately disgusted.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

(nice work, Ned and slocki)

this friend of mine back in college was dating some 36yr old woman when he was 20(!). One night a few of us were going to some restaurant and he said he was on his way over.

I joked with another friend (who hadn't met him) that "Greg's coming over with his mom", which apparently he didn't realize was a joke. Greg showed up and we were ready to go. He introduced himself to my friend and his girlfriend introduced herself.

I was locking up my door, suddenly they started nuzzling at one another and kissing and cooing at each other in the hallway. I turn around and my other friend's face had gone ash-white and I had to explain a little later that no, that wasn't really his mother, despite the age difference and the slight physical resemblence.

attn. college age couples who have found true happiness for the first time that will invariably end in a hail of recrimination by next spring break: stop humping all over each other in my store or i swear to christ i am going to staple you together and mail you to some foreign country where love is outlawed as an affront to the spirit of the worker.

strng hlkngtn, Thursday, 19 May 2005 10:58 (twenty-one years ago)

There used to be a couple who'd frequent the Krazyhouse (Liverpool rock club) who were chained tohether via ears, lips and nose. Now that was a lovey dovey gesture. It was fucking terrifying dancing anywhere near them though in case, you know, you got caught up

Matt (Matt), Thursday, 19 May 2005 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)
