didnt stop me wanting em for a while- but the colourful kind not the long hairy kind- but i had just spent 3 months straight working at music festivals and camping outside- not a day went by in those three months when i wasn't drunk or stoned

What's even funnier is when they spot a black person with dreadlocks and feel that somehow they can instantly bond with them in a shared utopian countercultural experiental haze (and ganja fumes, I guess) And when they start to address you in patois, that's always good for a few giggles at their expense.

I've always found myself prejudging them as soon as I see them, it's like some sort of knee jerk thing that I should really be ashamed of...But I'm not.

Dreads on me = BWAHAHAHA. (Besides, I like showering and washing my hair too much to stop now.)

While I can't dismiss the concerns behind it, I can't work out a way in my mind for this hairstyle/food "cultural appropriation" concept to lead to any kind of clear social norm that people are able to comply with.

I do get annoyed by some issues of appropriation and bad representation wrt Caribbean culture but dreadlocks are not really one of them. Dreads have been around a lot longer than Rastafarianism and are worn all over the world. There is also no bar on white people following the tenets of the religion.

I can see why someone would be offended/annoyed to see a non-Jamaican embracing Jamaican culture in a jokey/superficial way. But that's a leap from just having dreads as a white person.

this is one of my favourite instances of cultural appropriation because everyone pc or no already hated white ppl with dreadlocks so it's like finally we have a legit reason!
