Another quiz. This one for nerdz only:
What is your D&D Alingment?

You scored as True Neutral. A True Neutral person has two faces- either these people are merely apathetic, preferring to focus their minds on more important things, or these people truly believe in a balance of all things. To these people, there can be no light without some darkness. These people also have no dedication to, or intrinsic distrust of, laws.

Yay! I'm Neutral Good!

A Neutral Good person tries to do the 'goodest' thing possible. These people are willing to work with the law to accomplish their goal, but if the law is corrupt they are just as willing to tear it down. To these people, doing what's right is the most important thing, regardless of rules, customs, or laws.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 May 2005 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

True Neutral. Which, these days, sounds about right.

All of my roleplaying characters are Neutral Good/Chaotic Good.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 19 May 2005 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I was on the verge of being true neutral but was just softhearted enough, it seems.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 May 2005 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i got chaotic good and lawful good the same

this was a WEIRD quiz. the wording was bizarre!

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 19 May 2005 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't get these... What is a "lawful evil"? Don't evils always want to break the law?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 19 May 2005 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

No, sometimes you want to use the law to commit evil. If you will.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 May 2005 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I get it. Like Dubya.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 19 May 2005 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

The "good - neutral - evil" axis is a measure of your innate moral sense; whether you want to help people or hurt people, or use them to make things better for yourself, etc etc.

The "lawful - neutral - chaotic" axis is a measure of your predictability compared to societal norms. Lawful characters will always work within the confines of the system regardless of whether their aims are altruistic or nefarious, while chaotic characters will basically do whatever ever needs doing to further their aims/agenda and worry about the consequences later.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 19 May 2005 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

(So yeah, Dubya and company could, from a certain viewpoint, be seen as lawful evil.)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 19 May 2005 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Uh, apparently I'm Lawful Good. That is perhaps not entirely accurate.

adam (adam), Thursday, 19 May 2005 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I, as well, doubt that I am Lawful Good.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 19 May 2005 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

You scored as Chaotic Good.

A Chaotic Good person is someone who has little intrinsic respect for laws or authority, seeing them as insufficient to sustain what's right. These people work according to their own moral compass which, while good, is not necessarily always aligned with that of society. Despite their chaotic tendancies, these people are good at heart.

While I don't wish to argue with Dan, who no doubt rolls twenties, I always thought chaotic was a more exact opposite to lawful - that neutral is 'doesn't care about the law', chaotic is 'cares about the law, and the importance of breaking it'.

Disclaimer: I've never opened a D&D book in my life.

Strictly speaking, neutral characters care about the law right up until it starts interfering with their sense of balance, at which point the rules go bye-bye. Chaotic characters don't give a damn at all about rules; as far as they're concerned they don't exist and they're going to do what they want regardless.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 19 May 2005 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

the most ridiculous questions on that quiz:

There must be a balance in all areas of life.
I choose to do my damage from within the system rather than outside.
Without darkness there can be no light.
I enjoy spending time with the elderly.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 19 May 2005 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I can see how that would make sense, particularly as my version would mean that a chaotic good character would spend a lot of time ripping tags off mattresses etc.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 19 May 2005 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

A lot of people don't enjoy spending time with the elderly. The young, for example...

You scored as Chaotic Evil. A Chaotic Evil person is destructive to the extreme. These people put no value in life or beauty, taking pleasure in destroying both what is good and what is ordered. They have little to no respect for laws and the rights of others. Revenge is a powerful motivator for these people.
