(this is not a question about gatorade, which as we all know is loaded with sugar)

I usually don't care for bottled water, but I'm a sucker for that smartwater stuff. It feels wetter somehow.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 19 May 2005 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Cheesy name.. great idea.

As someone who suffers from not being to absorb potassium very well, i require this stuff occasionally to keep me from fainting or hyperventilating.

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 19 May 2005 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I also have to eat at least two bananas a day for this very reason.

it's clearer (and tastes cleaner) than other bottled waters. i like it for that reason.

cindy williams permafrost (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 19 May 2005 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Smart Water(tm) is basically Gatorade(tm) minus the food dye, sugar, and artificial flavoring... maybe not as much salt though.

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 19 May 2005 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i.e. it's meant to aid in hypovolemic thirst.. for "XTREEEEEEEEEm" athletes, etc.

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 19 May 2005 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Would it help a hangover?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 19 May 2005 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

* "If you're really going to be exerting yourself in a very hot climate, the risks of dehydration and hypovolemia [a decrease in blood volume] are magnified," says Jeffrey Lautman, M.D., chief of medicine at Euclid Hospital and director of dialysis at Euclid Dialysis Center in Cleveland, Ohio. "In dry climates, where your sweat evaporates quickly, you may not recognize that you are losing salt as well as water. In advance of your activity, you might want to consider taking a salt tablet along with liquids or an electrolyte-enriched drink."

* If your stomach rebels with vomiting or diarrhea, you're losing liquid plus minerals and electrolytes. "You better hit electrolyte-rich Gatorade and Tang in a big way," Lautman advises. "Whatever you think you need to drink, double it. The harm will come if you don't drink. In 15 years, I've never admitted anyone to the hospital with an overdose of Tang."

cindy williams permafrost (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 19 May 2005 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Mixed with a little vodka, it would make a much better hair of the dog. (Those electrolytes can bite you if you combine them with the evil drink.)

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 19 May 2005 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Donut, that advice seems contradictory!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 19 May 2005 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe nobody overdoses on tang but you can drink too much water and die of salt imbalance or some such.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 19 May 2005 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

caffeine can dehydrate you. (water, otoh, is supposed to do the opposite.) (do they cancel each other out?)

cindy williams permafrost (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 19 May 2005 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Spencer, we all know greasy hash browns, cheddar cheese, and omelettes consumes on a Sunday afternoon contain every every known agent to eliminate hangovers.

(Although be careful if you do this after midnight.. you don't want to know what will happen.)

this had a bit of a funny aftertaste the one time I tried it. I'll stick with stupid water for now.

haitch (haitch), Friday, 20 May 2005 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

When I found out 50 Cent had his own water, I didn't believe those who informed me, till I saw it. I was deeply disturbed by the reality. Natural water, fo' sho.

Alan Conceicao (Alan Conceicao), Friday, 20 May 2005 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

is it called "eau de fiddy"?

cindy williams permafrost (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 20 May 2005 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought it was a joke. Then I read the label.

Smart water is for people who arent'.

It takes a LOT more than 15 minutes on the treadmill in an air-conditioned gym to dehydrate. In fact, it takes more than a 10K on a hot day outside to dehydrate. Be sure that 99.5% of people who drink Smartwater or Gatorade don't need to. No one needs the sugar in Gatorade. But it tastes good, so drink it if you like it. But don't pretend you need it.

50 Cent invented "Vitamin Water"? That's what I heard, yet I can't believe it for some reason. There's a certain lack of 50 Cent identification with the brand.

Unfortunate Prankster (Unfortunate Prankster), Friday, 20 May 2005 04:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Surely, nothing can beat Trump Ice:

cindy williams permafrost (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 20 May 2005 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

i really like water, cold, old 'original' water. Like Vice magazine, its full of goodness, helps your day run smoothly and despite the fact that its free, in certain parts of the world its almost impossible to get hold of.

[Gunshots]

[Verse 1]
(Whoo Whoo) It's gangsta
(Whoo Whoo) It's gangsta
(Whoo Whoo) It's gangsta
Yo Yo
These rap niggas spend alot of time writin punch lines
I walk in the vocal booth and just speak my mind
Look in my eyes, you see it, I lay it for the chedda
Twice I bet my life
I survived, I'm better
Niggas lookin all tough in the face
You screw me don't move me
I beat you till your black and blue, like my favorite coogie
Moved over your jokes, you know I'm gon shoot
See you gon pay me or the high school dupe
Don't call me to feature, I don't wanna rap wit ya
I brought my knife in the club, I came to scrap wit ya
Got a hiss when I talk, a bot when I walk
You know rappin with the grimiest nigga in New York
Fifty aka Ferrari, Fifty aka 50 Cent
Now fuck with me, cut a face off for fuckin up my product
As a young buck, I probably got your house party shot up
BLLAT!

[Hook]
You're thicker than water, you're thicker than water,
you're thicker than water, you can be a blood or a crip, nigga, bitch
follow me!
You're thicker than water, you're thicker than water,
you're thicker than water, you can be a blood or a crip, nigga, bitch
follow me!

[Verse 2]

Incidentally, my friend Ciara tells me that the restaurant she works for sells Trump Ice.

When I went to Atlantic City and had brunch at the Taj Mahal, our table water was Trump Ice, natch.
