tabby cat hair - should i do this?

So it all started when i got envious of this statement:
So another woman takes over. Who promptly gives me ginger stripes. I know that it will fade, but right now, especially under bright light (such as usually happen onstage) I look like a bloody tabbycat.

I want tabby cat hair.

Being a boy, can I get away with this?
more importantly:
is it 90% likely to be nothing like i imagine?
do i have money to throw at a hairdresser?
will i lose my punkrock credentials?

i've never really been one for haircuttery and highlightery. should i do it now before i get too old? i'm 26, am i already too old?

maybe just shave it all off? i'm off to London tonight/tomorrow, so help me out and maybe i can get it done at some top class swanky place or something. or not, depending on responses, i guess.

anyway...

DO IT NOW.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 20 May 2005 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

If you go to a good hairdresser and it doesn't work as expected, you'll still look sex.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 20 May 2005 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

are you a pussy?

blahbarianthefirst, Friday, 20 May 2005 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Go to Hair By Fairy. No matter what you ask for, you will end up with Tabby Cat hair. Actually, I think that the concept of Tabbycat hair is quite cool. But it's just not what I asked for.

(The stripes have no calmed down slightly, it's just very ginger.)

So go for it. But bear in mind you will be my manesake then. Can you handle *that*?

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 20 May 2005 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

kate, how much does hair by fairy cost for coloring? was thinking of doing something different with color, and was thinking about actually paying for it rather than doing it myself. we'll see, though.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 20 May 2005 10:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i feel like i'm in Destiny's Child all of a sudden.

yeah, i can handle it.
yes, i'm a pussy.
yes, i wouldn't mind 'looking sex'.

i'll probably go for it. unless my girlfriend says "oh noes".

promise you're not just teasing me?

and yeah, how much should i be expecting to pay?

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 20 May 2005 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, it SAID on the bill that colour starts at £25, but they charged me £50 for highlighting because I wanted "two shades" (i.e. I asked for a Mrs. Robinson streak of blonder hair at the front).

I do NOT reccomend the place, BTW, so please do not take this as a reccomendation. I've had nothing but trouble with them.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 20 May 2005 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm. yeah, i've had a couple bad haircuts there, but thought they might be ok with color. have you found anywhere that does color pretty cheap but decent? ah, how i wish the ilx barber did coloring! my life would be so happy!

colette (a2lette), Friday, 20 May 2005 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

my girlfriend, she say "yes!"

i guess the only remaining question is "i'm going to regret this, aren't i?"

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 20 May 2005 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

No, the only decent colouring I've found has been bloody expensive - that place in Islington, can't remember the name but it's at the top near Highbury on the same side of the street as La Porchetta. They did *fantastic* colouring, but they were bloody expensive.

I think HBF might be OK if you want extreme and non-natural hair colour, say FUSCHIA red. But not for highlights.

Greg, the only real question is how fast does your hair grow? If it grows quite quickly, then you only really need worry about it for a few months. My hair takes TWO YEARS to grow out of a bad dye job so it's quite a concern for me.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 20 May 2005 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

well, i shaved it real real short on new year's eve, now i have a big old playmobil-man mop. so, uh... i guess that's fairly quick.
HBF sounds hella scary. i'll be in Camden, any REAL recommendations?

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 20 May 2005 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

if you don't have a job or you're a student, you can go to vidal sasoon's advanced academy, they do funky hair for like a tenner. but it takes several hours in the middle of the day.

yeah, i don't think i'm looking for anything natural, but if it costs £50 to do highlights, i think it's still too expensive for me to do. will probably do it myself, i guess. hmm.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 20 May 2005 12:09 (twenty-one years ago)

really, this hair by fairy place sounds like a total menace.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 20 May 2005 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i have job. darn!
HBF is out of the question now, hurhur.

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 20 May 2005 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

arr, i didn't do this yet. ran out of time.
but camden was nice!
The Fall were staying in the same hotel as me. had i been brave enough, i could've ruffled Mark E Smith's hair.

on a bit of a tangent, the Young Knives, the reason i went to camden in the first place, were hella good.

so yeah, getting this done next weekend. before and after pics may or may not happen. we shall see.

g-kit (g-kit), Monday, 23 May 2005 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

what exactly is tabby cat hair?

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Monday, 23 May 2005 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

hair that resembles the fur of the species Felis Tabbius. one assumes. that's what i want, at least.

Two examples to take to your hairdresser:

I think the second is an exceptionally striking style, don't you?

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 23 May 2005 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm 26, am i already too old?

You know the saying, you're only as old as your hair.

Aimless (Aimless), Monday, 23 May 2005 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i dont know what this style looks like, but in theory it sounds pretty bad.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 23 May 2005 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm afraid I agree. I don't like orange hair much as a rule though. What color is your hair now?

mouse (mouse), Monday, 23 May 2005 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Leopard Spot Hair!

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Only do this if you are extremely hott. There was a middle-aged woman with too much lipliner on the tube this morning with wacky particoloured highlights which looked kind of tabbyish, and it was a baaaaad move for her to get that done.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 08:38 (twenty-one years ago)

my hair is uh, brown, kinda dark.

not all tabby cats are ginger tabby. i was thinking more brown/blonde tabby. kinda like this lil chap.
