I can't believe it's almost over.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Friday, 20 May 2005 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought This Thread is Backwards VII was better, in spite of some weakness in the second act.

Let's ask Aimless.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Friday, 20 May 2005 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no idea how to feel about this thread anymore. Especially compared to some of the previous ones.

You think Jack Nance has better hair than Ned? You're kidding me!

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 20 May 2005 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

That costume was like the synchronized break dancing time at my secondary shoool talent contest. The crazy thing was during the second half. I was playing with my band and the Stig the guitarist had to pull out due to a nasty tummy bug and weirdly bright eyes was in the audience and offered to jam with us. He wasn't prepared to play our meticulously prepared prog nosie rock; think Focus meets The Dave Clark 5 meets Wolf Eyes but he was up for some early seventies british faux glam lad rock covers he suggested the Sweet but that wasn't gonna fly...

elwisty (elwisty), Friday, 20 May 2005 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Now THAT HIDEOUS TIE is the real reason why nine posts down (or up, in this case) in this thread Peter Smith will come in here and end up declaring all of this to be depressing. It won't be because of the foray into discussing elwisty's high school talent showcase.

This is how I dressed at Halloween when they set up the haunted maze at one of the local Catholic churches around here. I was brought to it by my friend Helena, who initially wanted me to dress in drag but I couldn't stand the whale blubber on my lips.

I've heard that some of the ladies, especially Ally, really go crazy for a sharp-dressed man. Maybe we should try some photographic experiments.

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 20 May 2005 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Does clothing make any difference? Wouldn't they prefer us naked? I know I'd prefer them unclothed and exposed!

Ian Riese-Moraine is on toffuti break! (Eastern Mantra), Friday, 20 May 2005 23:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently Coldplay are insisting on a strict dress code for fans on their upcoming tour.

Hurting (Hurting), Saturday, 21 May 2005 06:39 (twenty-one years ago)

After weeks of fast food (damn my short lunch hours!) I'm feeling a bit unwell lately...can anyone recommend a good holistic system cleanser, preferably not too expensive?

I'm sure the average ILXor is as good a gastrologist as any.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 21 May 2005 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder who could tell me what would be the intestinal effects of chowing down on Ken C's latest creation?

Ken L (Ken L), Saturday, 21 May 2005 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Argh, that's like how last night in chat Ken C was telling me how he took some enormous crap, like he was all proud of it or something. Just let it go! I don't care if you felt an orgasmic sense of releif afterwards, I guess I'm happy for you but I just don't want to know!

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 21 May 2005 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a roommate once who was a master of oversharing with his before and after intestinal updates. Another friend of ours used to do an excellent imitation of this: "I don't know what was in that PIZZA I had last night!"

Ken L (Ken L), Saturday, 21 May 2005 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck this talk of quantum mechanics, let talk about our wierd roommates, AGAIN.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Saturday, 21 May 2005 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses the fact that under certain conditions the spin of hydrogen nuclei can be 'flipped' from one state to another. By measuring the location of these flips, a picture can be formed of where the hydrogen atoms (mainly as a part of water) are in a body. Since tumors tend to have a different water concentration from the surrounding tissue, they would stand out in such a picture.

Remy (x Jeremy), Saturday, 21 May 2005 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

This is reminding that there is a phenomenon in QM known as "tunneling" which has maybe a medical application or perhaps has to do with how things enter and leave black holes. Somebody had a roommate who was studying this- Gear, maybe?

Ken L (Ken L), Saturday, 21 May 2005 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I am going to hijack this thread by making the next three posts about quantum mechanics. I'm sick of hearing about the deviancies of your crazy roommates!

Ian Riese-Moraine is on toffuti break! (Eastern Mantra), Saturday, 21 May 2005 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

then there was the time this one roommate of mine was shagging his girlfriend in the shower LOUDLY, with the door open, not knowing that I was at home. Specifically, sitting in the living room, having some juice, reading a novel. He left the bathroom and came into the living room wearing a towel, saw me, and ran off shrieking.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Saturday, 21 May 2005 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Jeez, Gear! What is it with your roommates always having sex while you're around?

Ian Riese-Moraine is on toffuti break! (Eastern Mantra), Saturday, 21 May 2005 18:15 (twenty-one years ago)

The only thing that can disprupt this indepth discussion of 15th century artist Jan van Eyck's Ghent altar masterpiece is one of Gears storys about his roomates having sex when he's around.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 22 May 2005 07:16 (twenty-one years ago)

So what do we think of post-op Kylie?

TV's Mr Noodle Vague (noodle vague), Sunday, 22 May 2005 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

The usual interpretation is that Hubert van Eyck (d. Sept. 18, 1426) was the brother of Jan and that he was the painter who began the altarpiece, which Jan then completed.

Bullshit. Jan rocked that house solo, bitches.

(Isn't this usually about the time that ILM fuxx come in with some throwaway celebrity gossip?)

Someone I know one said they liked the Bee Gees more than most of the other "bands" of the disco era because they wrote their own songs and even played their own instruments. I have a feeling I know what the ILX establishment would say to THAT little bit of reasoning.

Has anyone ever tried eating apples with a knife and fork?

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Monday, 23 May 2005 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know, sometimes I really LIKE overkill; the cannonball-to-kill-the-housefly approach has a certain appeal. Once, to impress a girl, I set a full table (wine glasses, steak knives, soup spoons, candles, placemats, the whole nine) for a midday lunch that consisted of two apples and a bottle of yoo-hoo. It felt very Smoove B, but it worked.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 23 May 2005 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

A lot of people think Gary Numan famously asked "Are Friends Electric?", but I'm pretty sure this is a misquote.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Monday, 23 May 2005 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, as the prophet sang, "That's what friends are for".

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 23 May 2005 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

The difference between '70s and '80s dance music can be determined solely on BODY HAIR. E.g., Gary Numan's sleek glam looks are probably completely based on his baby-smooth skin.

OTOH, I'm pretty sure I've seen photographic evidence that the Gibb brothers' body hair was fashioned out of argyle socks.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 23 May 2005 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, and I thought drum machines/beatboxes, overproduction, and extended mixes were the only differences between dance music from the Seventies and dance music from the Eighties.

The thread that's not sure if it is backwards or not has caught up with us, by the way.

Ian Riese-Moraine is on toffuti break! (Eastern Mantra), Monday, 23 May 2005 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I prefer Depeche Mode to Chic, personally. Warped mechanical beatz > tired "funky" beats. It's the tragedy of decadence that befell '70s dance music.

I'm glad this thread is still surpassing the chronologically undecided thread.
