I'm thinking of saying fuck you to Wal-mart buddies Netflix? Is this the good alternative?

A friend of mine is quitting and thinking of going back to netflix 'cause he can never get any mainstream new-release US movies at the top of his queue.

Hmmph. But can he get obscure Jacques Becker flicks and porn quickly? What's he say the shipping is like? Netflix has been slow as fuck lately.

Porn is slow as fuck? heeehee. ;-)

I only watch porn remixed by Michael Watts.

A word to Alex - stop pronouncing it "green-sign".

My ladyfriend loves it but she likes dull docs and Kate Hepburn.

Wasn't all that happened was that Wal-Mart threw in the towel on the whole online DVD rental thing and a deal was struck to where Wal-Mart's old customers are now just moving to Netflix?

I mean, Wal-Mart didn't BUY Netflix or anything. This seems like a pretty minor thing to me.

Pink Devil, Friday, 20 May 2005 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I understood that Wal-Mart customers could join Netflix at Wal-Mart prices for one year and that Netflix would carry ads to buy DVDs at Wal-Mart.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 20 May 2005 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, that's all

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 20 May 2005 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually the Wal-mart thing was more an icing on the cake thing (I just saw the Wal-mart link on the website and was like ick.) Mostly I am pissed out how slowly they are getting the flicks to me these days.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 20 May 2005 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Did someone drop this e?

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 20 May 2005 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I live in Texas and I subscribe to Greencine. I think they're a great company and I'd encourage most anyone who wants to rent good DVDs online to go to them. For me, it generally takes the post office three days per trip back and forth to Greencine to deliver stuff. If you actually live in San Fran, I guess it would take it take you only one day most of the time. And the costs are comparable to Netflix (maybe $3 or $4 higher for each plan).

If there's a flaw with Greencine it's that there a lot more titles on a wait than you'll find with Netflix. Most things become available eventually, though. If you have enough DVD in your queue (I have about 300), you'll always have stuff to watch. One nice about Greencine though is that they offer lots of interesting, left-field recommendations (just set your account to show the editor's recommendations on the front page) and all of those are titles ARE immediately available. I've seen some pretty cool stuff that way that I otherwise might not have even heard of.

They don't do a free trial, but maybe you could try out one of their lower-level plans for a month (2-out for just $14.95) and if you like that, upgrade from there.

Itchy, Friday, 20 May 2005 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay you are the first person who has actually given me good advice. I think I'm going to try it after this month is done.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 20 May 2005 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

does anyone actually use that nicheflix service? that looks kind of neat. they even carry shit without english subtitles! it's not cheap, but then again neither is buying a lot of foreign dvds on recommendation.
