Warts and removing them

A doctor zapped a wart on my finger with dry ice and said I might want to use a nail file to kill it more. Do I need to sterilize the file, before and/or after I use it, or did the dry ice take care of infectiousness for me? And how long should I file the wart?

L (Leee), Sunday, 22 May 2005 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Completely useless anecdote: when I was younger, for some reason, I used to have about thirty or forty small warts on my hands. One day I suddenly noticed that there weren't any there at all. I've got no idea why they disappeared, or when.

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 22 May 2005 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

you should probably sterilize the file, if you break the skin you can always introduce an infection so better safe than sorry. Dunno about how long to do that--I think you'll figure it out.

Well I'll tell you, it's funny the doctor said that, because when I was younger I had lots of warts on my hand, like 7 or 8 and more would appear all the time, and my mum tried so many different medicines and treatments (ones for warts, not like goat testicles boiled in the blood of a black priest etc)

Anyway she kind of gave up eventually, and one day in school as wart number 10 or so sprung up on the base of my hand, I just got frustrated and began picking at it, WITH A COMPASS.

Anyway it eventually began to gush blood. But soon after I had entirely gutted it, like a couple of weeks, the other warts began to die too.

I have never had warts since.

I'd purchase a new file, and set it aside soley for wart-filing. They are
a virus, after all. Dry ice or no, better to err on side of caution. It'd be smart to wash it in hot, soapy water after each use, just because filed down skin is eww. Just file it a little bit every few days. I'd say after a few weeks, it should be good as gold. I'm only basing this on
plantar-wart experiences though...so who knows how accurate all this really is.

(although my warts mysteriously disappeared, I still have an ugly right hand: a very large and permanent corn on my index finger, from playing the clarinet with bad posture. Oh, and fingers that are all curved sideways)

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 22 May 2005 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

wait, ronan, are you recommending that?

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 22 May 2005 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

absolutely. I have a hardline policy on warts. alternatively get one goats testicles in priest blood

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 22 May 2005 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Typical catholics.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Sunday, 22 May 2005 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

is the *black* priest blood compulsary?

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 22 May 2005 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know, it just sounded like what mad old Irish medicine would have.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 22 May 2005 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

don't let the brown skin put you off!

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 22 May 2005 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I was wondering, actually, whether it was the priest or the blood who was black.

I have a recipe for black butter somewhere. Maybe that would work.

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 22 May 2005 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

L, I like you, warts and all.

peepee (peepee), Sunday, 22 May 2005 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a wart which I managed to get infected - and the infection killed the wart!! When it healed, the wart healed too. Result.

Kill wart with knife

then grin and wank, complete slide into sicko state

I had a wart on my thumb for about a year at school, but it was conveniently placed so I could squash it with my flute whenever I played. Maybe the silver plating, because it kind of spat out little black particles over the course of a couple of weeks and died, then I filed it down. Get one flute!

I had warts all over my hands in high school too, I didnt realise how common it was! Mine never seemed to budge with wart remover or picking at them - they just suddenly went away one day. Warts are viral, so I dont think there is a lot you can do.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 23 May 2005 07:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I had one on my thumb once. I tried some wart treatment that formed a gel cap over the it. When this didn't seem to be working, I bit the wart off and then applied the treatment to the bloody hole that was left behind. Like Ronan, I've never had warts since.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 23 May 2005 08:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps your saliva is a natural anti-wart treatment. A marketing agent should do the rest of the work for you.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 23 May 2005 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

That dry ice treatment always did the trick for me, although I did have one wart go away by just filing it with a nail file every now and then, but that was only small anyway. I didn't bother worrying about sterilising the file or anything, but maybe I was lucky!

I also had lots of tiny warts on my hand when I was a kid for a bit, they were more like tiny verucas though as they were like holes in my skin rather than lumps, but they just went away one day for no apparent reason.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Monday, 23 May 2005 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Hurrah for wart stories.

I had one as a kid, I cut it out with my pen knife and it was hanging out of the side of right index finger by the root, I was wearing tightish jeans at the time so I shoved my hang forcefully in my pocket. Oh the blood.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Monday, 23 May 2005 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

HAND god damn it.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Monday, 23 May 2005 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

can't believe nobody has recommended the Leech yet

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 23 May 2005 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I had one on the index finger of my right hand when I was a kid. My grandmother told me that the Old Fashioned Way of removing warts was soaking the affected area for about 10 minutes a day in cooled water in which you had previously boiled some potatoes (something about the starch from the potato leaching into the water or something). Anyway, I dutifully did this and after about a week the wart shrivelled and fell off leaving no mark. (I also used to think my grandmother was a witch with spooky witchy powers, so it may have been psychosomatic healing forces at work)

C J (C J), Monday, 23 May 2005 09:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Ste, for really persistent warts you need lampreys or, if they're in season, hagfish.
