― Surmounter, Monday, 2 March 2009 05:28 (seventeen years ago)

― Surmounter, Monday, 2 March 2009 22:54 (seventeen years ago)
Couldn't you have scanned with the free iAntiVirus or free ClamXav?
― Bob Six, Monday, 2 March 2009 23:15 (seventeen years ago)

― ken "save-a-finn" c (ken c), Sunday, 19 April 2009 16:20 (seventeen years ago)

― ken "save-a-finn" c (ken c), Sunday, 19 April 2009 17:16 (seventeen years ago)
the full version is the upgrade, find a friend who is a student and get them to buy it for you.
― Prince of Persia (Ed), Sunday, 19 April 2009 17:30 (seventeen years ago)
how much cheaper is student version?
― ken "save-a-finn" c (ken c), Sunday, 19 April 2009 17:32 (seventeen years ago)
not much

― ice cr?m, Sunday, 19 April 2009 17:54 (seventeen years ago)

― ice cr?m, Sunday, 19 April 2009 17:55 (seventeen years ago)
Fingers crossed that 10.9 will be called Bubastis.
― M.V., Sunday, 19 April 2009 18:07 (seventeen years ago)
i love the cunning that they made leopard compulsory for iphone SDK - pay up if you want to join the gravy train, i suppose
― ken "save-a-finn" c (ken c), Sunday, 19 April 2009 18:18 (seventeen years ago)
if you are a registered developer there may be a deal.
― Prince of Persia (Ed), Sunday, 19 April 2009 18:19 (seventeen years ago)
im just going to take a wild guess and say that ken is not a registered developer
― ice cr?m, Sunday, 19 April 2009 18:28 (seventeen years ago)
well no. i just bought this mac like yesterday and have never had a mac before.
i will have to at some point though if i were to publish things to app store - i mean, if that can get me a discount on mac leopard also then i can do it now - however i cannot find anything about this on mac store???
― ken "save-a-finn" c (ken c), Sunday, 19 April 2009 18:43 (seventeen years ago)
tut tut - you didn't update the how long have you had your computer thread revived over the weekend.
― Bob Six, Sunday, 19 April 2009 21:58 (seventeen years ago)
is anyone gonna buy snow leopard?
― sailor goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 August 2009 17:28 (sixteen years ago)
yeah I asked on the other thread
dunno myself, no shiny new toys to play w/ are there?
― cozwn, Monday, 24 August 2009 17:29 (sixteen years ago)
I'm gonna buy it for the new Xcode.
It is pretty short on toys though, but will def be faster, and a Safari that Flash doesn't kill wld be nice.
― stet, Monday, 24 August 2009 17:32 (sixteen years ago)
Gonna buy it with a new mac.
― Mornington Crescent (Ed), Monday, 24 August 2009 17:47 (sixteen years ago)
will i get the safari update regardless or do i have to get the new os?
― sailor goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 August 2009 17:48 (sixteen years ago)
The good backend stuff in the new Safari needs 10.6, but otherwise it's the same browser as on 10.5
― stet, Monday, 24 August 2009 17:49 (sixteen years ago)
er fuck i just ordered this for the lovely emma b's macbook which is still running tiger - and apparently it will not install without leopard already on the system???! tiger users have to buy a "box set" including iLife and iWork - which i don't want! fuckety fuck, none of apple major releases have ever been like that before
― Tracer Hand, Monday, 24 August 2009 18:11 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, they taking the piss there. It's because of the cheaper price, apptly.
Box set isn't an awful deal if you do want iLife/iWork, though -- it's the same price as the Leopard upgrade was, but with much more stuff.
― stet, Monday, 24 August 2009 18:19 (sixteen years ago)
so wait if you're in tracer's position is there no way to get snow leopard w/out ilife/iwork? barffff if so
― cozwn, Monday, 24 August 2009 18:25 (sixteen years ago)
i'm not paying 100 pounds extra for the privilege of owning a bunch of crap i don't want. sheesh.
― Tracer Hand, Monday, 24 August 2009 19:04 (sixteen years ago)
guess the solution is to get a loan of a legit leopard install and then install snow leopard off the upgrade disc
― cozwn, Monday, 24 August 2009 19:14 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, TH I can send you a leopard install disk for a loan if you like. Don't know what would happen if you needed to fully reinstall at a later date, tho.
― stet, Monday, 24 August 2009 19:19 (sixteen years ago)
oo there's a bug in zing for iphone
― stet, Monday, 24 August 2009 19:20 (sixteen years ago)
I've ordered Snowy, but only cos it's only £7.95 if you've bought a new Mac since June, which I have.
― Sickamous (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 24 August 2009 20:17 (sixteen years ago)
you can get 2nd hand leopard on ebay for ~40 quid if you want to get the 25 quid upgrade to snowy
― Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Monday, 24 August 2009 20:46 (sixteen years ago)
just installed Snow Leopard and can't see Expose or the Stack in the dock, and can't find a way to get them in there.
― ljubljana, Friday, 4 December 2009 12:38 (sixteen years ago)
ah! nevermind on the Stack, sorted that. But still no Expose.
― ljubljana, Friday, 4 December 2009 12:40 (sixteen years ago)
Expose should be in Applications folder
― stet, Friday, 4 December 2009 13:14 (sixteen years ago)
Exposé is in Applications/Utilities, just drag it into the dock. Also if you click an hold any application in the dock you'll get exposé to work for a that application.
― American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Friday, 4 December 2009 13:16 (sixteen years ago)
yeah Expose is not listed in the apps folder for some reason, but it must be hiding elsewhere because it does work when I click and hold an app...
― ljubljana, Friday, 4 December 2009 13:42 (sixteen years ago)
Not in utilities either?
― American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Friday, 4 December 2009 13:45 (sixteen years ago)
this is probably an easy question. What would be the Mac video editing software that is better than iMovie but still not super-complicated/"pro"?

So this is kind of half PC question, half Mac question, but: I have a home network consisting of a PC and a Macbook. I'd like to share my music folder on the PC, but the "share with homegroup" thing in Windows 7 doesn't appear to actually do anything in this context- it's not appearing in the Network section of Finder on the Mac. What am I doing wrong?

i have a really old macbook that's now in dire need of replacement -- it's still running 10.4!
all i really need it to do is run itunes and spotify and other basic stuff like web browsing and writing. i have an external hd that has my itunes library in it. i'm hoping to get away pretty cheap; my only impetus to spend is to have something that will perform well for some time.
i'm looking at macofalltrades but it's all pretty new to me -- any tips?
i'm dimly aware that mac is moving away from optical drives. i'd like to have one -- is it better to get an external dvd drive with a newer laptop, or what?
thxxx

Is there a decent gaming mouse I can get that has 1)at least 4+ buttons and a scroll wheel 2)works/goes well with mac 3)$50 or less and 4)doesn't look like someone scribbled crayon or barfed ectoplasm all over it?..and oh yeah it needs to be symmetrical, none of that righty stuff

I've got a TextEdit file open on the side. I've created a custom find+replace query into it, so when I dump a list in there, I can quickly generate HTML code to turn them into tables.
The first field is something like </td></tr>(hard return)<tr><td>. But whenever I ctrl+F anywhere else, including inside my browser, that term ends up replacing my previous term to search.
How can I stop TextEdit -- or the browsers? -- from doing this?
― pplains, Wednesday, 9 September 2020 16:53 (five years ago)
Don’t think you can, it’s a “feature”. BBEdit is both good for complicated replaces and use its own search pasteboard iirc, may be worth trying it instead?
― stet, Wednesday, 9 September 2020 17:25 (five years ago)
Thanks for the tip on BBEdit!
My department is still holding on to High Sierra for dear life, for some reason, but this one little thing may spur me to hop up anyway.
― pplains, Wednesday, 9 September 2020 19:55 (five years ago)
BBEdit is great for chores like this
