ryan (ryan), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

She's just chillin'.

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

"So, where's the salmon run?"

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Who in the hell are Rupert and Sooty?

diedre mousedropping and a quarter (Dave225), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know Sooty but I know the rest of those. Rupert was a children's show and it used to appear on Nick Jr. My brother used to watch it all the time.

Ian Riese-Moraine's Plateau Rouge! (Eastern Mantra), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh for goodness sake "who the hell are Rupert and Sooty" cuh!

ihttp://www.ibooknet.co.uk/ news_images/Oct2002/Rupert.GIF
Rupert is much more than a children's show on Nick Jr. He is actually a staple British comic book character from waaaayyy back. Do you remember the Frog's Chorus by Paul McCartney? In fact I think Paul bought the rights to all the Rupert books since he is such a massive fan. Can't say I am really, there was something a bit strange about calling all the Chinese characters something like "Ping Pong".

This is Sooty, a puppet controlled by my Dad's lookalike Matthew Corbett. His friends are Sweep the squeaky dog and Sue the Panda and then I think they got a smaller bear later on.

I'm surprised the Yanks have heard of Paddington and not the other two though.

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

weird, why didn't the images work?

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

This thread must claw its way to the top of New Answers once more. It must not be permitted to sink to the bottom and die.

Aimless (Aimless), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Britain is no different, although species of wild animal spotted scurrying along the pavements in the wee hours are neither as exotic as those in the US nor, thankfully, as threatening.

OMG HE DON'T LIKE OUR AMINALS!!!

Ian Riese-Moraine's Plateau Rouge! (Eastern Mantra), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Somehow I really wish the British Isles still had real life wild bears.

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

While I'm at it though, what is it with bears? They're not gorillas, they're not wolves, they're just BEARS! The whole concept of them weirds me out...

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

When I was in the States, we drove through eau de skunk on 2 occasions, and while it was unpleasant it wasn't as offensive as I'd been led to believe. Maybe it was just really dilute?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Bears are so weird. They're these, like, big ginormous fanged carnivorous monstrosities that we teach our children to hug and take advice from, but DON'T EAT THE PORRIDGE.

nickalicious will find his password, Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, smelling a lot of bad pot will desensitize you to skunk roadkill.

Otherwise, I'm worried about all that chlorine over the poor mama bear.

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

AND THEY DON'T EVEN EAT PORRIDGE OR HONEY AS FAR AS I KNOW!

(or do they eat honey?)

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Help me to get rid of bear.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Dear Doglatin,

Rupert, Rupert the bear
Everyone sing his name
Rupert, Rupert the bear
Everyone come and join
In all of his games.

nabiscothingy (nabisco), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Bears will eat almost anything, dog latin.

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Looks like a patchy photoshop job to me.

Guymauve (Guymauve), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes indeed.

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

That was to Nabisco

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I once heard a punk version of the Rupert Bear song.

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha, before I clicked this I thought "most dog latin thread ever" !

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

That worries me. Why?

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

No, if it was a Dog Latin thread, it would be entitled "BEAR IN A SWIMMING POOL! MAKE SOME NOIIIIIIIISE!"

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

well, yes.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Some blame the profusion of fast food outlets, their half eaten meals, scattered around streets, are easy pickings for such animals

A bear in Oxford would have a field day with all the kebab vans.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

That worries me. Why?

I think it was the "you guys!". You are otm about Britain's bear problem, anyhow. Why you no check e-mail?

Gravel Libraryworth, Tuesday, 24 May 2005 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Does DogLatin go "You Guys"? I didn't know.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 07:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Greg, did you not get my reply to your mail? I did write back. Okay, I'll re send when I get to work...

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 07:43 (twenty-one years ago)

the wildlife in your city

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a little bear like you've never seen before
He's a lot of fun
Children everywhere grow to love him more and more
He's the number one
There's a magic land not far away
And they call it Nutwood
Where you'll meet a little teddy bear
If you are good

I typed that from memory!

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 08:08 (twenty-one years ago)

rupert theme tune sung by Jackie who also did the theme to White Horses, that eastern european dubbed thing that used to be on in the days before swap shop. Lush did a cover version.

great picture btw
