MarkH in London - Tuesday 14th June: Fancy a Pint?

I'm going to a book launch in The Strand on Tuesday 14th June and was wondering if anyone fancied a pint? And I thought that rather than do this in typically autocratic MarkH fashion and simply pick a pub I like and say "Let's go there" I'd let you guys help me to find in a nice one in the Strand area...so, how about it?

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll leave nominating a pub to the steering committee, of course, but I'll be on for a drink, I imagine.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Excellent, Martin! Ths Spy emphasised to me the importance of engaging others in the decision-making process.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

But disinformation is HIS JOB.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 21:27 (twenty-one years ago)

the one we went to after the crazy treasure hunt was nice i think, or maybe i was just drunk and thought everywhere was nice. i also think it was called the george and dragon.

emsk, Tuesday, 24 May 2005 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

The Lyceum is the Sam Smiths pub on the Strand, and has the advantage of being where I play darts. I will be there if I can.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 05:59 (twenty-one years ago)

QUIT THAT, STEVEM!!!

There will be no The Spy/Disinformation crossover. That would be my idea of ex boyfriend HELL.

The Lyceum is a good pub. They do POUTINE!!!! as well so I'm always down with that. What was the treasure hunt pub? The George IV? That was a damn nice, pub as well. (Even if we wuz robbed - ROBBED - of first prize. We are to London Treasure hunts what Cliquey Trigger is to pub quizzes - PWNED or should I say PROVED!!! which is my new insult of choice.)

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

(Actually, that's not true. The rampant amazing niceness of The Spy versus the rampaging horrid horribleness of Disinformation might cancel each other out. Except there would be a terrible matter/antimatter time explosion which would RIP A HOLE IN THE FABRIC OF SPACETIME a la Doctor Who or something.)

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 10:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the Lyceum too.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
bump!

This looks like being quite a busy day, with a business lunch and a visit to the City Business Library as well as the book launch, so I shall prolly need a pint after that lot....

The Lyceum seems popular. It's Sam Smiths, isn't it?

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 9 June 2005 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh i hope ppl can make this. I realise some people are going to be a bit fapped out with Gravel Puzzleworth's leaving FAP the day before. Hmmm...

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 11 June 2005 09:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Aha! I knew that there was a FAP on this day. I shall make it. I may even be in a suit because I shall have had a job interview (!) that morning. (Depends on whether I go home to change or not. I may go and bug Suzy either commiserate and moan with or offer a celebratory lunch, depending on what happens with the interview.)

No Spy, though, he will be in Spain. I mean, the country, spying on their football managers, not drinking in the bar. Though I'm sure he will be drinking.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Saturday, 11 June 2005 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

No-one goes to *that* Spain in the early evening anyway!

I don't think I shall be in a suit but I may be wearing a tie as I have Important Work Related Stuff to do earlier.

So, Ms St. Cl4ire, where do you see yourself in five years time?

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 11 June 2005 10:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Errrr... dead?

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Saturday, 11 June 2005 10:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder how long this book launch I'm going to will go on for? Someone said to me last night "Book launches can be fun, however, the one you're going to is about oil in Russia, so......"

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 11 June 2005 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

It will last until the free booze runs out. That is exactly how long all book launches (and indeed album launches) last.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Saturday, 11 June 2005 10:15 (twenty-one years ago)

You wear a tie with something other than a suit, Mark? Like t-shirt, hoodie and tie, maybe?

Magnus is hanging out with the world's most famous and intimidating referee, and not as far as I know any football managers.

It was one thing having one FAP after another when I was entirely single, but I have a girlfriend now so may not feel like coming to two in a row - I'm not sure yet.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 11 June 2005 10:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Manager, referee, what's the difference? It's a bunch of boys kicking a little spotted ball around a field and whichever one gets the ball first is clever. I just smile and nod, I don't pretend to understand.

Unless he starts talking about MATHS. Then I go all gooey.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Saturday, 11 June 2005 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

And don't tempt me to start making the hkkkk-ssssshhh!!! crack of the pussy-whip sound, Martin! ;-)

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Saturday, 11 June 2005 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Feel free, if I start saying "my girlfriend won't let me come to a FAP," but that isn't terribly likely.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 11 June 2005 11:03 (twenty-one years ago)

bah. i think on tuesday i am going to brighton to see brakes cos i can't see them in london cos the gig is the 21st and on the 21st we got 2 other gigs on in london and i really should (and, like, do actually want to) go to all of them.

emsk, Saturday, 11 June 2005 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Emsk, your life is getting too complicated for me to keep up with!

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Saturday, 11 June 2005 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

nah it's not complicated, just messy, like its owner. (ooh kate you should maybe come to one of the london 21st ones though, it's lyc4 sl33p @ lumin4ire, haven't seen them live or heard records yet but their last single is on their website and it's a thing of swirly loveliness. there are cds in the post to me right now, i will report further.) (sorry mark for going on about this on your thread.)

emsk, Sunday, 12 June 2005 06:35 (twenty-one years ago)

No Emsk don't worry about it! It took me quite a while yesterday to figure out that Brakes was a band - I had assumed, foolishly it would appear, that the fact that you had just been on a v. long cycle ride and you were wearing a T-shirt with Brakes on it were somehow connected.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 13 June 2005 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

haha mark nice one! i did not notice that until well after i had left the house in the morning, i just grabbed a tshirt off the top of the pile, and for a little while thought ohno they are all going to think i am in a pathetic bid for creating myself a cycling nickname argh. it was ok though, they didn't.

emsk, Monday, 13 June 2005 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway. Bump! This is tonight! In the Lyceum! 6.30 (ish)!

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 06:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be having a pint or two tonight in edinburgh because as of today i have a zero in my age:-(.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 08:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh! Haven't seen this until now. We have booked ourselves to go to another Sam Smiths (Chandos) this evening but could swap venues around the corner.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm afraid that I have still not recovered enough from the vicissitudes of the weekend to come out. Sorry to miss your visit, Mark.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Good grief, Martin, sorry to hear this, it looked like you were all sorted out on that front. Drop me an email if you want to talk about it further.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

No, it's nothing huge or terribly upsetting, and I haven't fallen into a bad depression - just a rather extraordinary weekend, leaving me tired and shaken.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

The City Business Library this time. London Wall. In between pipeline security peeps and the book launch.

No, it's nothing huge or terribly upsetting, and I haven't fallen into a bad depression - just a rather extraordinary weekend, leaving me tired and shaken.

Sorry you can't make it Martin. Glad you're ok and I hope you recover quickly from whatever the 'extraordinary' bit was.

Liz and Rob: yes, did I not mention this on Sunday? Oh dear, that was rubbish of me. But yes, swap Sam Smiths! Be great to see you!

MarkH in another library (MarkH), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm wondering whether the ppl around me are engaged in Proper Serious Study.

MarkH in another library (MarkH), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I doubt it - I'm sure you're not the ONLY one using the internet for it's most useful purpose eg helping people drink alcohol.

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Helping people drink alcohol?

I have something to celebrate now! But I can't celebrate now as the thing I am celebrating happens tomorrow.

(i.e. I have successfully passed the first stage of job interview rounds and have enthusiastically been invited back for more prodding and poking. Except this job actually sounds REALLY amazing and great. However, another job I don't want so much keeps pestering me for some kind of answer...)

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I will be heading over soon. But right now Ed is washing his bike in the sink,
