my flatmate got us FREE TICKETS to see dizzy rascal last night - amazing! it was at the camden electric ballroom. we drank five beers in 2 hours. what fun!

then it was all over and we got the bus back and somehow (i can't remember exactly what happened) between getting off the bus and stepping off i fell and landed head first onto the pavement!!!

it fucking hurts :( sympathies please.

i hope i don't get brain damaged, this morning i tested my speech, hearing, movement, logical and arithmetics abilities and they all seem ok. memory was no worse than usual either.. does that mean i'm okay?? or will my brain slowly deteriorate?

there's a fun lump on the side of my head just now (covered by hair) that gives me a tremendous dose of pain whenever i touch it or open my jaw too wide. it's too much more fun than it should be!!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

you should see a doctor

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

were you concussed at all?

N_RQ, Wednesday, 25 May 2005 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

poor ken :( was this a drunken fall or some other kind of fall?

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

and yeah, see a doctor. Maybe you can get a CAT scan!

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Off to the doctor with you or you will never be able to play DDR again.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh no! Do you think you could still eat huge amounts of chicken if necessary, Ken?

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, ouch. But CAT scans are fun too! (zxpost)
I'm recommending going to see a doctor cos everyone else is too and I don't want to be left out.

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh no Ken! I hope it doesn't hurt too much. I have heard however that uploading pictures from your digital camera and emailing them to your friends is a good way to ease the pain!

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Blimey Ken! You need medicinal PIE.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

where should i go to see a doctor? do i go to A+E or some kind of walk-in clinic? my GP is miles away back in milton keynes.

how can i tell whether i'm concussed? omg. i just realised yesterday in camden some guy tried to con me 88p, and I cussed him. IT WAS KARMA.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

like, if they find something wrong with me is there actually anything they can do rather than telling me erm, shit dude your head is mush!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i still can't remember what exactly happened (but more due to alcohol) but i could have passed out that was why i fell, and the fall could have woken me up because i just remember pain.

or i could have been knocked out.. i just remember being on the floor and a (cute? i can't remember) girl getting hold of me being really concerned. and i was all like "i'm alright i'm alright don't touch me" (ok not the don't touch me part) when clearly i should have feigned more pain for sympathy.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

call up the NHS and ask for local primary care in your area

lukey (Lukey G), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh no! Do you think you could still eat huge amounts of chicken if necessary, Ken?

if the pain continues i may have to eat in smaller bites because i won't be able to open my jaw as wide (which would ruin the experience a little), but rest assured that chicken will still be consumed in huge amounts, always.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

call up the NHS and ask for local primary care in your area

oh yes! i can try out NHS Direct!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost yes, take this opportunity to register with a local GP? I am imagining a cartoon lump rising out of your skull and stars and little tweeting birds flapping around it. The fall sounds scarier how you describe it--I hope it wasn't from the stairs of a routemaster...

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Injuring yourself is an effective but inadvisable way of getting gurls' attention.

But yeah, get one medical attention. I dunno what they can do if you've pulped yr brain either but the doctor might be hott.

robster (robster), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

do they have emergency rooms in britania?

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

oh no it wasn't a routemaster but it was just from the step between the bus floor and the pavement. i must have hit it pretty hard. the only other place that is bruised is my right knuckle (i was holding a load of stuff against my chest) so from my deduction i probably didn't land solely on my head, which would have been even worse.

i'm going to try a GP this weekend. hopefully my brain will stay intact before then

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

sensational sulk i work at a hospital! in fact the A+E (ER) department is 2 minutes walk from here!

but i don't know whether this is an emergency!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

head injuries are no joke
you should go directly to the hospital you work at

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

It definitely qualifies as an accident. And head injuries should be checked out sooner rather than later.

robster (robster), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

scare tactic: a friend of mine fell down, hit his head and died in his sleep a day later

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

This freidn of yours - was it KEN?

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

no

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

nope

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

it was Dan Perry innit

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

My brother's friend got hit in the knees by a speeding-but-slowing car on Saturday night. Dunno how he is! Get checked quick, short-round.

Negativa, True Believer (You know you love it when I'm dressed in drag) (Barima), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

oh but i'll be late for bowling!

ok. i'll go now wish me luck!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

good luck! when come back bring CAT scan.

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

This happened to the singer from the Kissing Time right before a gig last year. She kept getting tingling sensations and literally seeing shooting stars things. We eventually persuaded her to GO TO THE FREAKING HOSPITAL but only after she'd played the whole gig.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

do they really have special Freaking Hospitals for this kind of problem?

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes. Also they specialise in the removal of red shoes for people who cannot stop freaking dancing.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

hosp. freaky trigger

the doctor saw me touched my head a little bit and told me i am going to be fine - and now i have a "Head Injury" leaflet telling me about head injuries. i don't have to go back to A+E unless i develop other symptoms e.g. vomiting losing consciousness etc.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

What does the head injury leaflet say? Is it informative?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I am glad they said you are ok ken! I saw the WORST film the other day called "A Dirty Shame" where Tracy Ullman gets concussion and it turns her into a sex addict, and everyone who gets hit in the head becomes one too. You should go and see it, it was AWFUL.

Cathy (Cathy), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Head injury whatevs. I've sustained no less than 3 head bonks this winter and I'm still the Smartest Man that Ever Lived.

giboyeux (skowly), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i wish the head injury turned me into a sex addict :(

the leaflet was actually very good and reassuring! it says

Head Injury

You have had a head injury and it is common to notice some of the following symptoms:

Slight headache - you may take aspirin or paracetamol for this.
Increased tiredness.
Nausea or decreased appetite.
Difficulty in concentrating.
(i had all of these apart from decreased appetite)

While the symptoms last you should rest as much as possible. You should not go to work, play sport, watch television, drink alcohol or smoke. You will probably feel quite alright again within a few days.

If these symptoms get worse, you should come straight back to the hospital, especially if you notice:

Severe sleepiness or difficulty waking up.
Vomiting more than once.
Severe headache.
Seeing double or other trouble with your eyesight.

If you have stitches to a wound on your head, you may wash your hair immediately you get home and then keep your hair dry until the sutures have been removed.

Signs that a person who has been discharged from hospital following a head injury should go or be taken to their nearest A&E Department

Unconsciousness, or lack of full consciousness ( for example, problems keeping their eyes open)
Any confusion (not knowing where they are, getting things muddled up).
Any drowsiness (feeling sleepy) that goes on for longer than 1 hour when they would normally be wide awake.
Any problems understanding or speaking.
Any loss of balance or problems walking.
Any weakness in one or both arms or legs.
Any problmes with eyesight.
Very painful headache that won't go away.
Any vomiting.
Any fits (collapsing or passing out suddenly).
Clear fluid/blood coming out of the ear or nose.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

While the symptoms last you should rest as much as possible. You should not go to work, play sport, watch television, drink alcohol or smoke

today - check everything except smoke, no rest either as you can see it's 1am.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

ken, never mind going to the doctor, come to me. I WILL FIGHT YOU NOW.

(This thread has made me hungry for chicken but it's too late to get any so I'll have to get some for breakfast instead).

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

we never fought the last time Jim! This must be rectified.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:26 (twenty-one years ago)

this thread needs more pics of ken

Community Cornerstone (deangulberry), Thursday, 26 May 2005 05:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm glad you're ok, Ken. And that you got that head injury taken care of.

The Kind and Benevolent Oracle of Dee (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 26 May 2005 05:42 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks for all the concern and goodwill here guys! my head is still hurting a little but i think it's getting better and there's no sign of any brain damage i think (fingers crossed)

haha dean i WISH somebody had taken a video footage of me flying off that bus.. it could have won me £500 from You've Been Framed. It was particularly strange that at the start of that evening when my flatmate and I were discussing how good it'd be if, say you've had a particularly great jolly journey on the bus home that you can request for a copy of the CCTV footage. and then this happened later that night.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 26 May 2005 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Go to the walk in centre at the Whittington Hospy. They are lovely lovely people. They made me feel a lot better last week and gave me free codeine.

Alix with an i? (alix), Thursday, 26 May 2005 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Forget you've been framed, Ken: http://www.claimsdirect.com

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 26 May 2005 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

ooooh! this is true. the accident wasn't my fault. and i think the fall had affected my sex drive.

free codine sounds great too. i should have complained about the pain a bit more.

I went to eat pie this lunchtime, and some of the bitefuls were tainted because of the hurt whenever i opened my mouth too wide :( it was still bluddy grate, but i hope the pain will soon go away so i can enjoy the one love in my life.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 26 May 2005 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

BUMP

(haha, i just wanted to say that)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 26 May 2005 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh Ken! I meant to ask you how yr head was. Poor lamb. Still, the pie was good eh?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 26 May 2005 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

the pie was great! poor lamb.

wait it wasn't a shepherd's pie. yeah it was still stinging when i took a couple of bites! but none of the other symptoms arrived (in fact, today i've been sharper witted than ever!)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 26 May 2005 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm totally not following the rest/no booze/work rules. going to a bar with 2 for 1 cocktails tonight, on the day i got my bank card back - i really ought to buy myself a helmet before i show up!
