A Serious Thread: have you even been to a trail for probate?

What goes on? What happens? Is it awful? I have been named in a will where the estate is hotly contested. Should I be afraid?

Oh and I meant "trial'? Do I need a lawyer?

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 27 May 2005 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Are the other people on the will people you want to remain on good terms with? Cos this could get ugly, from things Ive read about contesting wills :/

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 27 May 2005 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Tad to thread, perhaps?

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 27 May 2005 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I just want the right thing to be done for the deceased's son. I guess I don't really care if the parties who are fighting (I'm not one of them) hate me.

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 27 May 2005 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds awful in any case though :( Good on you for doing what sounds like the right thing :)

Eisbar I just emailed you some new info.

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 27 May 2005 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks Sam and Trayce for the well wishes. And thanks for the private emails Eisbar, they were really helpful. I feel like I'm starting to get a handle on this. Me and another friend who was "named" were getting ready to leave town to avoid subpoenas--two chicks fleeing legal hell with a bottle in each hand. We promised ourselves that if there was a Perry Mason-like reading of the will in a lawyer's office we were bringing a bottle of Jack Daniels. (You kind of have to know the situation for this to make sense, it's not as harsh as it sounds)

We both want to help the son if possible, but we are SO not looking forward to any other part of it, and are getting all kinds of upsetting information from different sources.

Tonight, I drink.
