In this thread, people give me support in my attempt to stay up all night and write a play.

We do this yearly festival called "The Blitz." Eight of us started at about 9 pm CST. We have to finish a one-act play by 6 a.m. tomorrow; the directors will cast the play tomorrow morning and begin rehearsals, and they are all performed at 8 p.m. that night.

I have about two pages so far. I drew "Darkness on the Edge of Town" and "Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy" for my two titles, but let someone else use the latter, as I didn't need it.

So anyone who cares to may stay up all night with me (or in other places maybe it's breakfast now, or lunchtime or something) as I write this play.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 28 May 2005 02:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Use my favorite Peanuts line ever:

"Gradually, a shot rang out."

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, trace, it is! kinda.

okay, so far, the plot is going to be: a rich guy and his wife meeting her scruffy/sexy former boyfriend; halfway through, they are visited by the vengeful spirit of dramatic tension, who runs off with the rich guy.

i have eaten 10,000 potato chips and some asparagus. also, the Great Lakes Brewing Co. makes a very fine beer called "Edmund Fitzgerald".

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)

jody why you turn off sound for telemundo? we just got it because we have dish network now, ME GUSTO MUCHO

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I also must try this "Edmund Fitzgerald".

Jordan (Jordan), Saturday, 28 May 2005 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Aww, these are fun! I did one of these a few years ago. The end result was utter crap. Utter, utter crap. But it was fun!

Remy (x Jeremy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)

also, the Great Lakes Brewing Co. makes a very fine beer called "Edmund Fitzgerald".

a collectivist romantic fling! (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 28 May 2005 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Jordan (Jordan), Saturday, 28 May 2005 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 03:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, Mercury. My girlfriend was once a Mercury player.

Jordan (Jordan), Saturday, 28 May 2005 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Jordan (Jordan), Saturday, 28 May 2005 03:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 03:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

a collectivist romantic fling! (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 28 May 2005 03:31 (twenty-one years ago)

tell me not to get distracted because one of the other playwrights is disturbingly hot

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 03:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I am hotter. Oh, sorry. You weren't supposed to be distracted.

Orbit (Orbit), Saturday, 28 May 2005 03:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Orbit you're not helping! :)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 03:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Focus!
I'm up, although it's not that late here. I took the skin off my shin and one of my palms this evening & it's still too painful to try to sleep. Fucking skateboard, dumped me on the sidewalk when I was trying to show off to a friend.

lyra (lyra), Saturday, 28 May 2005 03:58 (twenty-one years ago)

oh the shame

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 03:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Haikunym you have captivated me with your verse.
I tremblingly await you.

Orbit (Orbit), Saturday, 28 May 2005 04:00 (twenty-one years ago)

curse you and your tremblings, woman!

i got my hair cut really short today, almost a buzz-cut

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 04:05 (twenty-one years ago)

sunset this evening: http://www.flickr.com/photos/wck/16031832/
Taken at the park this evening... that's my best friend with my dog & his dog. Thankfully there's no photographic evidence of my crash, which was about 20 minutes before I took that photo. I love sunsets in Seattle, even ordinary ones are brilliant orange and turn the bay a nice purpley color.

lyra (lyra), Saturday, 28 May 2005 04:14 (twenty-one years ago)

You must add this line: DAMN YOU TESTICLES!

Note: it's pronounced 'test-ic-leez', not testicles.

Dante, Der Führer (Sean3), Saturday, 28 May 2005 04:18 (twenty-one years ago)

you need a comma between YOU and TESTICLES, btw.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 28 May 2005 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

This sounds like fun! You are inspiring me to stay up and do something constructive tonight.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 28 May 2005 04:33 (twenty-one years ago)

words of inspiration for the struggling playwright, courtesy of homer j. simpson:

"just throw lots of swear words in! that's what david mamet does!"

argh, hit the wall, last hour just slipped away in a haze of caffeine, lust, fatigue, self-doubt, and lust

POLEAXED

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

lyra (lyra), Saturday, 28 May 2005 04:52 (twenty-one years ago)

okay, I'm on it

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 04:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Lust?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 28 May 2005 04:55 (twenty-one years ago)

no, coffee

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 04:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't drink too much though, or your fingers will get too jittery to type...

lyra (lyra), Saturday, 28 May 2005 04:58 (twenty-one years ago)

this is awesome!! good luck, it sounds like a wicked fun thing to do.

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 28 May 2005 05:06 (twenty-one years ago)

my brother just called me; he was at tonight's performance of the plays written the night before. he was quoting a song from the musical written by my friend Rob: "He had to die / He was drinking Bud Lite"

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 05:19 (twenty-one years ago)

to be fair, that line sounds better if you know it is sung by Satan pretending to be Jesus

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 05:26 (twenty-one years ago)

2:49 a.m., finally figured out what was wrong with the damned thing, oh yeah

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 06:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Great work! Too bad the vase wasn't broken. That was a bit disappointing.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 28 May 2005 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I like it!

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 28 May 2005 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks. i don't know how well it will go over tonight, though!

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 28 May 2005 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, that's great. Break some actor's legs!

Jordan (Jordan), Saturday, 28 May 2005 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Bravo!

beanz (beanz), Saturday, 28 May 2005 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

At least you're not staying up all night trying to make gold from iron and sulphur.

"Yes, I have heard of this August Strindberg..."

Ian Riese-Moraine's Plateau Rouge! (Eastern Mantra), Sunday, 29 May 2005 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

By the way I am home (and drunk) after it was performed -- it kicked ass, total ass, 100% azss, and I am very happy. I love eveyrone.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Sunday, 29 May 2005 05:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Way to go Haikunym! I really like the play, too. (Tell me something: I bet the stage directions didn't quite go as you laid them out?)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 29 May 2005 07:20 (twenty-one years ago)

actually, they pretty much did. the director took things WAY over the top; she made the first part into a soap opera instead of a kitchen-sink-style drama the way I figured she would, and it turned out to be the right choice. the actress playing Barbara kept cracking up onstage -- I kept looking for Harvey Korman to walk on. But everyone was perfect; Chuck looked like Travis Tritt!

Other play subjects: cannibalism (natch), skater-punk ennui, centrist politics, sexual fondue, a contest for Miss Chatham Cow Pie Toss 2005 (Selma: "I only entered this contest because the judge said it would count for community service"), a chicken-based rebellion, and a musical about fat male strippers on a woman's cruise.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Sunday, 29 May 2005 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Sexual fondue!

Jordan (Jordan), Sunday, 29 May 2005 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)
