even at half a pound per month, a not inconsiderable feat.

it should also be noted that there were several weeks in that period where i couldn't really afford groceries.

I got a tub of cashews for Christmas the year before last. And this year. If I eat too many cashews, I get nasty b.m.

i will be sad not to see the jar's smiling face atop my fridge anymore

The Mountain Goats have a song for every occasion, including this one. It helps if you have them for breakfast. And are they from Georgia?

i'm having trouble visualising 3.5 pounds of peanuts. what sized receptacle would it fill? a shoebox? a glovebox? a coffin?

I was once obsessed with raisin & nut mix. Then I switched to white chocolate-covered raisins.

Doesn't your stomach retaliate for subjecting it to so many peanuts? Weren't you thirsty?

Oh in six months. Bah, that's nothing.

in one year of college, a friend of mine (with help from his roommate and hangers-on) went through nearly 30 pounds of these...

I love those!

A couple of months ago my friends from the commune next door dumpster dived 30 boxes of assorted Christmas chocolate confections that some store had thrown away. Luckily they had a party next Friday which took care of maybe half of the boxes. But still, boy were we fed up with those chocolates after the weekend! I even designed a personality test based on what type of confection you first pick from the box. If I remember correctly, those who picked pineapple were the biggest freaks.

It took me far less time to go through a gallon of medium-grade pistachios.

(Slightly off-topic but not completely) Tuomas is it true that Finland has run out of toilet paper?

ha

Nellie (nellskies), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 04:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, not quite... The local paper workers are on strike, so we might run out of Finnish toilet paper. If worst comes to worst, we'll have to wipe our delicate arses with some crude foreign product.

Someone gave me a huge bag of salted peanuts when I was a poor hard-up student. I opened them, had a few, then put the bag in the kitchen cupboard (stupidly not inside a jar or tin) and forgot about them for a few months. When I looked at the bag again, it had become infested with little weevil things, and I felt sick. It put me off peanuts for a very long time.
