Mavis Beacon, like Betty Crocker, is not a real person!

Well, it sounds better than "Jive Talkin' Computer Program Teaches Typing"

I kid. I'm sure Mavis is a very nice, computer generated teacher.

ie never used any of these. I learnt at school. So I recommend Miss Booth, she was a bit of a witch though and was a stickler for the old fashioned typewriters instead of Amstrads.

I used to use one called Typing Tutor 6.0 - I don't know if it still exists though - the best thing about this one was that you could import any text file into it to practise typing - and it would tell you off for mistakes and give you lots of stats etc. This was cool because I would import ebooks and stuff that I really wanted to read and so I'd be reading cool stuff and improving my typing all at once! This is after I'd learnt all the basic positions and stuff.

Actually, I lie about the ebooks. The only stuff I ever imported was Buffy and Angel slash.

Oops, I said stuff four times. That's excessive. Sorry.

I rather pointlessly typed in a listing from 'INPUT' magazine on my speccy, have you ever tried touch typing on a spectrum keyboard?

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 09:25 (twenty-one years ago)

bah! I meant to say a listing of a typing tutor program.

My favourite has to be Typing of the Dead.

The library where I work uses Mavis Beacon. I've never looked at it.

cool, thanks guys loads to go on. I'm def intruiged by zombies even though I found Shaun Of The Dead quite disappointing.

Nellie (nellskies), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

argh Intrigued(!)I even typed it into Word to see if I had it spelt right and the squiggly little red line didn't come up for ages.
that word always looks wrong

Nellie (nellskies), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't remember the name of the program I used, but had I been able to use it for a little longer it would've been able to keep me from peck typing (which I do at about 50-70 words a minute, depending on my train of thought).

I learned how to type from a program in middle school that had cute little ghosts and stuff.

But yeah, I mean, Typing of the Dead for the Dreamcast obviously.
