If you were my dad what would you be feeling right now

He spent ages making home made battered cod for dinner for me (as i am the only other person in the house). And I ate a bit then threw a strop because there were bones in every other bite. So i made some pasta and came upstairs.

What do you reckon he's thinking down there?

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

While i was cooking pasta i noticed he had a cookbook out and there were pans and measurements out and stuff. Poor guy.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd be thinking about how to make a fortune from other people's misery.

Monkey of the SOUTH, Friday, 3 June 2005 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Goddamn ungrateful kids.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

More for me.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

XXpost
That's terrible.

Nowell (Nowell), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't be a douche to your dad, dude. Go apologize!

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Of embarassing personal details about you he can recount to your future girlfriends.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

He's going through the kitchen drawers, looking for the sharpest knife and some duct tape.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd be thinking about punching you in the fucking face, to be totally blunt. It's really not that hard to pick out bones or make a joke about his mistake. Apologize.

Allyzay flies casual (allyzay), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel really bad for your dad.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm with Ally on this. You're at least cognizant of the fact that you're being a twat, so go downstairs, apologize to him and bro out with dad a while.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriously, this is totally heartbreaking.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

"note to self: next time, try putting poison in pasta"

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 3 June 2005 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, no, this is completely, completely sad. The poor dude.

Allyzay flies casual (allyzay), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

bro out with dad a while

That's awesome.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Not only did you do this awful thing, but then you posted about it on the internet instead of acting like a proper human.

double twat

Monkey of the SOUTH, Friday, 3 June 2005 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not usually this unkind and horrible.

I just apologised and he said that he'd get different fish next time. Apparently it was supposed to be filleted already.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriously, go say sorry to the poor guy. He didn't deliberately spike your fish with bones......

....or did he?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

the Internet saves another family!

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 3 June 2005 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

It wasn't his fault. It was God's fault for putting the bones in. Tell him his batter is great, and the cod was not worthy of it.

geyser muffler and a quarter (Dave225), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't grow up with my mom, just my dad and me for a long time, and I had to endure some awful, clueless cooking from the man (one of the reasons I like to cook now) but you gotta give him props for trying to feed you, Hari.

Did he make something like brandade?

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

he said that he'd get different fish next time

Aw, this makes me feel even worse for the guy! Like he tried to do something good but failed from the very start!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Ok i just did a second apology and hug. I told him it was a dick move on my part and that next time he should get the same fish and i'll pick out the bones.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Make him dinner sometime?

jel -- (jel), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

It wasn't his fault. It was God's fault for putting the bones in. Tell him his batter is great, and the cod was not worthy of it.

-- geyser muffler and a quarter (right.knewi...), June 3rd, 2005.

See this makes me feel even worse. At the time I stropped about the bones and then said he should get a deep fat frier and he kinda just mumbled "Yeah, i suppose" in a sad way.

His cooking is fantastic though, i do take it for granted.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I may be extra-sensitive to all this because my dad is in the process of moving out of the house to live on his own for the first time in 35 years, and I keep thinking he must be lonely. We're going to a movie tomorrow.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, you made up with him. You should feel good about that now... Take him out for a chocolaty milkshake.

xp

geyser muffler and a quarter (Dave225), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Can we ban people from ILX for being mean to their dad?

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah i might see if he's up for a movie. He seems pretty lonely today while my mum is away.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes! And for being offside!

xp

Monkey of the SOUTH, Friday, 3 June 2005 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

You should offer to swallow sharp fishbones until they kill you in compensation!

Seriously though: you got it wrong, but you spotted that, and you apologised, and apologised well by the sound of it.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

"Dad, let's do something. Movie or strip club?"

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Also now we're watching 'Hero' after eastenders, which he's wanted to watch for a while now.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

You can make him feel better by letting him know that you pissed your pants for the benefit of internet strangers.

Community Cornerstone (deangulberry), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

It is interesting that, as you get older, seeing your parents humble, or sad, or just a bit diminished somehow, seems to get all the more tragic (as made clear by the responses here I guess).

Unless you hate 'em maybe.

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I think when you have parents who are really good to you sometimes it can be too easy to take them for granted. And they never get mad at me so it's really easy to get away with being a dick - which i'm not very often. And when i am i feel really bad.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Ally OTM, I'd be deep frying you by now.

Ed (dali), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you should get your Dad to post on this thread, so we can all tell him how great he is.

C J (C J), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi there! Damn kid! But Hero looks great and he learned his lesson. I wish he would stop telling me about this Disco Inferno band, it's not my thing.

Hari's Dad (Ned), Friday, 3 June 2005 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm onto you, neddikins.

C J (C J), Friday, 3 June 2005 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

And when i am i feel really bad.

Sorry. That is about the most pointless, dead end thing you could do. You have to go apologize for being a dick. Then you're where you need to go. Case closed and you can stop feeliong so bad.

Aimless (Aimless), Friday, 3 June 2005 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

That's what i do/did

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Friday, 3 June 2005 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

That's plenty good enough for me. I can never understand how so many people fail to grasp the need for apologies. They do so much for so little.

Aimless (Aimless), Friday, 3 June 2005 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Saying thanks is just as important.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Friday, 3 June 2005 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

This is such a heartbreaking story that I actually do understand why nobody answered the question with "YR MOM'S TITS."

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 3 June 2005 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 3 June 2005 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Believe me, I was tempted!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 3 June 2005 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

It was the first thing I thought of before I read the first post, which made me cry. (inside.)

geyser muffler and a quarter (Dave225), Friday, 3 June 2005 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I was thinking more, "Your lifeblood slowly dripping between my fingers."

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 3 June 2005 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

How different would everyone's answers be if Hari had led off with, "My dad is such a fucking cunt. He cooked me this nasty fucking filet and every other fucking bite was a bone."

Hey.. Hari'$ playing us all for fools! He'$ manipulating us! Get him!

geyser muffler and a quarter (Dave225), Friday, 3 June 2005 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel sorry for the poor battered fish.

C J (C J), Friday, 3 June 2005 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Update: I watched hero with my dad and we 'Bro'-ed out and stuff. :)

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Friday, 3 June 2005 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude!

I just came here to write "YR MOM'S TITS" and several somebodys beat me to it.
So instead I'll write:
