not for me, this time

a friend is moving to london in mid september, and is looking for a houseshare, probably on the metropolitan line (swiss cottage/finchley road/west hampstead/kilburn, i guess), though other places considered. aiming to pay up to £400 pcm

i guess its a couple months away, but, bear it in mind!

pcm = per calendar month?

I'll be in a similar situation about then as well, except I don't know where I'll be working (I'm assuming their job is dictating their choice of tube line).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 30 June 2005 08:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a room available: West edge of Pimlico, near Sloane Square/Victoria tube, £365 pcm, Move in August 1st.

Don't fuck this up! (noodles is a cunt), Thursday, 30 June 2005 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

that's quite cheap - how big is it?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 30 June 2005 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

3 reasonably sized (not huge, not tiny) double bedrooms, no lounge. Kitchen just big enough for a table. Bathroom decent sized too. 3rd floor, no lift.

Feel free to help the Stringbenders Three find somewhere too.

2 bedrooms, nice place. Not too effing pricey.

Peter Stringbender (PJ Miller), Thursday, 30 June 2005 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you leaving Maidenhead then? How much is effing pricey?

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 30 June 2005 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

It depends. We would leave if the opportunity presented itself. We are getting kicked out of our current flat. We are not very attached to Maidenhead, and it's not really any cheaper than London, from what I can tell.

Effing pricey = everything, but particularly more than £800 pcm, which is about the cheapest we can find in Mhead, give or take.

But moving farther afield would be problematic due to doctors and so forth for the little 'un.

Does anyone know/like Amersham?

Peter Stringbender (PJ Miller), Thursday, 30 June 2005 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I went to Amersham once on the train (I walked out of the station, bought a copy of Record Mirror from a nearby newsagents - The Beloved were on the cover - and then got back on the train), and was driven through it another time en route to Homelands festival (strange detour that one). I know/knew a guy who lived between there and Chalfont and it sounded nice but dull. A recent issue of Smoke mentioned Amersham somewhat unfavourably as two people attempted a walk from London to Oxford that included passing through it.

£800pcm would be my/our limit too, but has to be within Zone 4! And not Plaistow.

Ooh! It's me chalfonts!

Move to Slough famous for the The Mars Factory & David Brent

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 30 June 2005 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Come to Walthamstow Mr Miller! Though it's not very handy for doctors etc, it has a lovely park, with an aviary and a moat. A two bedroom flat is about £700 - £750 pcm.

hi, old amersham is lovely but v home counties and miles from the station. New amersham is nothing much really. I prefer Chesham! Serious! Chesham is kinda grotty but they are lovely (and v expensive) bits next to the river Chess (serious!), eg Queens head pub is good. Chesham is like Berkhamsted (next door) but with an actual ethnic minority community and a bit more poverty. Chesham Bois also nice if you like to be away from it all. Takes V long time to get to london on met line, but the Chiltern service to Marylebone is ace. goes from.....one of those places. Little Chalfont or something. O. Ozzbourne also lives in Little Chalfont if you liek that sort of thing. Some really nice old pubs in old amersham.

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 30 June 2005 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been wanting to go to Chesham for ages now, as it's the only Metroland tube stop I've not 'experienced'.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 30 June 2005 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha, Amersham! Chalfont!

I've been to both of these places.

Chesham tube is amazing!
Its just a little twee hut at the end of the line, with a tiny barrier, on its own pointless tube line to nowhere ie chalfont st giles or somewhere.

I used to work in chesham and commute from berkhamsted which was a pain in the ass by car (40 mins to go 4 miles!), but the tube works out fine, its in the middle of town, and i like chesham enough. its ngot some funny little shops, a decentish deli, a comic book shop and...well chesham isnt amazing, but i quite liked it. the reason you would move there i guess is becasue you are right in the country. I couldnt think of any other reason to move there from london. well it is cheaper as well i guess.

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 30 June 2005 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to tour Hertfordshire.

Edgware General (nordicskilla), Thursday, 30 June 2005 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

hertfordshire is yours for the taking. remember, the first roundabout in the uk is in letchworth!

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 30 June 2005 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)
