How to sell a icecream in cold regions/winter season?

Praveen Kumar, Friday, 22 July 2005 07:56 (twenty years ago)

Mark down the price. I bought 2L of Blue Ribbon Vanilla for $2.49 from the local shop. Normally about $4.50. It's bloody cold but I have laryngitis so it's a godsend.

battlingspacemonkey (battlingspacemonkey), Friday, 22 July 2005 10:07 (twenty years ago)

I knew a guy who did that very thing - use his ice cream van as a front to sell drugs

Lets put it this way the ice cream man comes around my estate at 5pm, 7pm, 9pm and a mysterious 11pm when he just beeps his horn, all year round. When we were younger he used to sell us 1-2 cigarettes at a time (definately under age) and i have seen him give older guys myserious packages in exchange for money- small plastic bags..... you know he be selling drugs....

Ice cream is sweet and creamy no matter what the weather. When I lived in Alaska there was no shortage of Baskins Robbins franchises, and they didn't shut down for the winter.

I remember an anecdote from a Soviet history class that Stalin used to make people sell ice cream in red square year round.

Laurel, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 20:05 (eighteen years ago)

They got to eat ice cream ALL YEAR LONG. That's the opposite of what they say "If Footmen Tire You, What Will Horses Do?".

Abbott, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)

Hmmm actually maybe it's exactly what that movie says...oops.

The communists will use "cunning and subtle" lessons to break the faith of children. A communist teacher asks his students to pray for Jesus Christ for candy. Of course, no candy arrives, but when the children pray to the glorious Fidel Casto, a soldier just happens to come in and dump a bag of candy in the classroom! Pretty cheap-looking candy if you ask me, but candy all the same

WHAT ABOUT THE ICE CREAM MAN?

sexyDancer, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 20:52 (eighteen years ago)

I ran across a person with the last name "Icecreamwalla" the other day. I thought this was rather strange, but I looked it up, and sure enough, it's an Indian name that was once given to ice cream vendors. "Walla" basically means "guy who sells"

Hurting 2, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 05:31 (eighteen years ago)

Minnehaha actually means "Laughing Lake".

Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 05:32 (eighteen years ago)

OHM Hurting 2 that is awesome. It's like being named Mr. Softee.

internet person, Monday, 6 October 2008 21:38 (seventeen years ago)

Well it's starting to get a bit too cold, but usually so do we. Carte D'or Greek Yoghurt & Honey particularly, or Crema di Marscapone.

snoball, Monday, 6 October 2008 21:41 (seventeen years ago)

We close down during the winter. Only three more weeks of work!

Tape Store, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 05:50 (seventeen years ago)

Haha, about the ice cream in Red Square - they do still sell it in the snack kiosks in Irkutsk in winter. A few times, I bought one while waiting for a bus, and once I heard some women standing next to me saying, "Ice cream in winter? She's not Russian!"

Which would imply the business isn't so hot that time of year.
