I'm sure I'll have to do some converting or something, but what's the best way to do this (using Nero)?

i don't think it can be done to watch on a dvd player. you can only watch them on a pc. i think they need to be converted to mpeg2 or something. i want to know too. and i want a free wmv-mpeg converter which i can't find.

DivXtoDVD does this sometimes, it's temperamental with wmv files. DVDSanta works when it doesn't.

I started a similar thread a couple of months ago and the conclusion was that there is no really easy way to do this...
This is the thread where you teach me how to burn AVIs on DVDs (the EASY way)

I have a (huge) wma file that I've wanted to do something with for months (i.e. burn it to cd, get it into wav files so I can cut it up, etc.). No converters or anything else seems to work on it. :(

On the subject of converting files, does anybody know how to convert mp3 files and write them to a CD so that they can be played in a non mp3 compatible CD player?

M Rissbrook (Koorbssir), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

Jordan, if it's an audio file you should get Total Recorder 3 (or whatver version is out there now). TR records whatever sound is on your pc at the moments. Play the wma file and use TR to record it to wav and then boom, there y'go.

Use Winamp to play it with the diskwriter output setting it will spit out a 16bit 44.1khz stereo WAV file.

Unless it's DRM'd.

Martin,

You dont need to all CD Writing software (Nero etc) will convert on the fly if you create an "Audio" CD and drag in the mp3 files.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

If it is DRM'd Affectians solution is the best.

Most applications that can go from WAV (or CD track) to MP3 will go the other way too. CDex can certainly convert from MP3 to WAV:

(Then drag WAVs into Nero or the like in Audio CD mode).

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

You dont need to do that Michael, Nero will covert the mp3s on the fly in audio CD mode.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

Ah, there you go. Even easier (but I don't tend to trust Nero's on-the-fly anything; it's sample-rate conversion is dreadful).

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

iTunes will do this too. You just choose 'Audio CD' in your burning settings. In fact, won't all burning software do this?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

When going from MP3 to WAV, I actually prefer to restore the missing data using a combination of AudiacScrutineer's ForensicXpander v3.1 (which runs Web searches on equipment likely to have been used on the recording and generates a sonic thumbprint of the inaudible scree disposed of in the encode) and EpicurEar's Demasker v0.9 (Monet plug-ins), which enables me to "paint in" the recovered wash of sound, 75 samples at a time.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

I love you, Mike.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

Jordan, if it's an audio file you should get Total Recorder 3

Sweet, I will try that.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

Bloody hell Michael, is you f'real?

Thanks for very muchly, having read the answers, I guess mine was a pretty dumb question! Still, when it comes to all things technical, I'm cack. I use iTunes mostly so I'll give that a go tonight.

It seems pretty friendly here by the way, even though finding my way around took a bit of getting used to. Quite a few names I recognise too...

M Rissbrook (Koorbssir), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

is there a reason why dvd santa only lets me put 41 minutes worth of wmvs on a dvd?

Lupton Pitman (Chris V), Thursday, 28 July 2005 12:03 (twenty years ago)

Have you been a good boy?
