small spaces

I noticed to day that I'm (Compelled? Intrigued by?) small spaces. THere was an office cube that didn't quite extend to the wall, so there was a space about a foot wide between the cube and the wall where you could put stuff. I was so jealous that I didn't have such a space. (But I don't have any stuff I need to put in such a space.) Then as I walked down the stairwell, I thought about how that space could be used.

Now I'm looking at my desk. There are some spots where an object would fit nicely, but I don't want to put anything there because once the space is filled, it's no longer appealing.

I don't like to be in enclosed spaces .. But for some reason, I like to look at them...

Also, little nooks are big selling points in houses.. "You could go there to read a book!" .. but no one ever does.

What a sad little thread this is.

i always wished i lived in a house that was full of character and was interestingly shaped instead i live three floors up in a 13ft-14ft square sou;ess box.

i went to a friends flat and one of the rooms in a tower of a building- it was hexagonally shaped not round - i was immediately jealous

I love being in teensy tiny little spaces. I used to hang out in the hamper when I was a kid. Closets too. I thought this was normal. I guess it is?

good point, but i don't want to live in one just yet. just a house with different levels, little nooks and crannies, just something nice and odd shaped. xpost

i used to love hiding under my cabin bed- so small spaces children hiding is perfectly normal.

I too am obsessed with small and interestingly shaped spaces, not to be in myself, but for their storage and secrecy potential. My bedroom is entirely square and featureless, which constantly annoys me. More alcoves, now!

Its about feeling threatened isnt it? Like being attached to a security blanket.

Nooks and crannies are the spice of life. I spent two years living in a house that a bit beyond my means because it had a STAIRCASE TO NOWHERE and loads of nooks and crannies.

I had an ex who had a flat where none of the walls were at right angles to one another. I find all these things oddly charming.

Did you by any chance live in the Winchester Mystery House? Speaking of nice crannies.

When I was a kid we used to go to a beach house that had secret staircases, one of which was so small that descending it made you feel almost like you were lying down, the steps were so close to your back.
