Bi- means "two," so bimonthly means "happening every two months" — but it also means "happening twice a month." Another word for the latter is semimonthly. http://dictionary.reference.com/help/faq/language/b/bi.html

Biweekly too. The same might have happened with biannual but thankfully someone invented biennial.
Except I can't remember which is which now.
