not surprisingly a little creepy?

yes maybe so, but I would like to see 'her' nonetheless. I think it says something important about the differing attitudes of the Japanese to Europeans and Americans towards computer and robot technologies. There is a tendency in Europe and America to utilise them for 'serious' purposes first (miltiary, industrial, commercial) and only introduce them for more frivolous purposes later on, often as a by-product of the original 'serious' usage. In Japan, the two things seem to develop in tandem, or sometimes technology will be used for a seemingly frivolous use from the outset. The thing is, whilst economists, industrialists and engineers might be very sniffy about the Japanese approach, quite often the Japanese have the last laugh, as the products they develop with a spirit of fun in mind end up being extremely successful.

I am now wondreing about the reasons for these differences; I suppose it is a mixture of cultural and historical. I'd be interested to hear what Momus has to say.

unconsciously, we react to the android as if she were a woman.

I hate when that happens.
