What in the world could possibly make someone cooler than an obscure screen-printed design on a muted-color t-shirt?

Hypercolor t-shirts.

Satan is my master (Robert T), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

I need some new t-shirts. Those are alright, I probably wouldn't buy them though.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

I think what gets me is the sheer novelty of them -- they scream "clever" and hint at this strained individuality.

Show me some good t-shirts, Rob.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

I almost made a Monty Python joke at Rob's expense but then I realized that making a Monty Puthon joke always makes you look dumb.

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

you have too little to worry about

Hanes, American Apparel, etc. etc.

anx: you have too little to worry about

We've known each other so briefly, yet you know me inside out.

Your screen name seems fairly accurate, though

When I was 16, me and me then-gf Lav1n1a were talking to a screen printing guy about making hundreds of exactly this kind of t-shirt (imagine what Ozric Tentacles fans would consider cool) and flogging them to all our buddies and scenester mates. We even went to his dodgy flat to inspect his wares. Ah, happy times (that seem completely bizarre to me in retrospect).

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 28 July 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

http://preshrunk.info is dumb.

i once wrote some feedback critical of them, which was almost immediately posted on their main page, along with the note that "no one was holding a gun to my head making me read [preshrunk], but if someone were holding a gun, feel free to graze [me] with a bullet" or some garbage like that. and a link to my blogger page -- which i had not provided in the feedback -- so i was flooded with indignant comments.

It was, as we say, "the weak sauce."

elmo (allocryptic), Thursday, 28 July 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

In other news, I am currently processing international t-shirt orders to Japan. Customs forms are fun! Kill me.

elmo (allocryptic), Thursday, 28 July 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

yo, where do they still sell global hypercolor tees, i predict the next big retro fashion phenomenon!

bruce payne, Thursday, 28 July 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

bruce payne, Thursday, 28 July 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

No change.

Good Lord: where has our anti-hipsterism come to that we are now offended by, umm, t-shirts with pictures on them? If you're Amish, Rob, how are you using the internet?

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 28 July 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

I tend to not even think about those t-shirts that are $25 bucks and each tshirt is credited to its designer. Some of them look cool, most of them are sort of dopey, but they're out of my tshirt price range anyway and I don't know anyone that wears them. If I saw more people walking around wearing 'em I'd probably be more irritated.
Maybe it's because I go to a huge public university with a lotta Greeklife, but more than the hip, well-designed shirts, I really cant deall with the shirts that take that whole fake thrift store concept and make really stupid jokes a la "Kansas Girls: We Give Great Head!!"

Even so, this one's hilarious:

Mat, I must know where that website is. I have two uncles who think they're pirates and they require that shirt in order to go on living.

We are "offended" by the painful coyness of this particular genre, not that the shirts have images. They are barely a step up from the ironic vintage shirts of two years ago.

But feel free to exercise more tolerance than I.

My anti-hipsterism is at least as strong as the Amish's. And much better documented.

Rob Upt1ght., Thursday, 28 July 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

My faorite shirt is TEAL and blank right now. XPOST..

Two years ago? I see fucking "ironic" "vintage" shit all the time. FIGHT THE REAL ENEMY.

YOU REFERED TO SOMETHING AS "TWO YEARS AGO" -- YOU ARE A HIPSTER DIPSHIT QED
