Pretty. The sound installation could be louder.

I really like the fake trees at the Getty, too.

Drove by this the other day and almost crashed my car. It's very beautiful.

Oooh, I like it! Why can't we have things like that at the Tate Modern instead of that horrid scary Nauman thing?

Masonic Boom (kate), Friday, 29 July 2005 06:29 (twenty years ago)

Can I have one for my home:

Does the Tate still have the exploding piano? That thing rules!

Remy (x Jeremy), Friday, 29 July 2005 06:32 (twenty years ago)

I didn't see the piano disgourging its inerds the last time I was there. Which is a shame, as it's one of my favourite pieces in their collection. (Along with Little Death Machine.) They are forever rotating things I like out and replacing them with not very good stuff. :-(

I'm not so keen on the fake trees, though.

The funniest tree exhibition thing, though, was the upside-down trees at Mass MoCA. Because, being trees, they refused to grow upside down, and warped and twisted and climbed towards the sun again. Rendering their logo a bit silly.

Masonic Boom (kate), Friday, 29 July 2005 06:36 (twenty years ago)

I think the fake trees look a lot better now that they fuller, an blooming a lot more. They stick out over the rebar, and mostly hide it. Not bad, but I can really understand why most people find them pretty ugly.

Remy (x Jeremy), Friday, 29 July 2005 06:41 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha, here are Mass MoCA's trees, though they did not stay like this for long:

Whoa -- where on the lot were they? Are they still there?

This is better of the Getty Trees but it makes them seem much heavier and more imposing than they are in real life.

Remy (x Jeremy), Friday, 29 July 2005 06:44 (twenty years ago)

I like the Getty Trees a bit better in flower, but then again, I'm such a sentimental horticulturalist that I'll like anything that flowers.

The Mass MoCA trees were quite hard to avoid, very near the entrance IIRC. However, I've not been there for a year and a half. I suppose I could ask my mum if they're still there, but she tends to avoid Mass MoCA if my brother or I are not around, as she rather Disapproves of Installation Art.
