is "shocka" some lame ILE trend, or do people actually say it in real life?

noticed more than a few ILE/Mers using the "shocka" line to exercize their sarcasm 101....for a bunch so painfully sarcastic, when will you all drop this overused, not really all that humorous line?

about the time you stop posting your complaints anonymously...

kingfish completely hatstand (Kingfish), Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:20 (twenty years ago)

just the type of aggro response I thought I'd get

i barely post here, dont' have a recognized "name"

ohplease, Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:27 (twenty years ago)

aggro?

gem (trisk), Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:27 (twenty years ago)

yes, aggro, agressive. feel free to ridicule this now. have fun!!

agressive, Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:28 (twenty years ago)

yes i know what aggro means. i couldn't really see any aggressive responses, that's all. whatevs!

gem (trisk), Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:29 (twenty years ago)

maybe passive aggro?

point is, everyone, gather round, RETALIATE, defend the site and all it's "name" posters

just read the response

passive, Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:31 (twenty years ago)

haha i think you've lost it

gem (trisk), Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:32 (twenty years ago)

http://images.somethingawful.com/reviews/movies/druids/druids_05.jpg

that image of a "shocked expression" could replace all uses of the word 'shockah'

suggests (Richard K), Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:32 (twenty years ago)

Eh? What is the problem here, I still dont understand. Blah in blah shockah is just an old ilx meme, usually said well in jest. What exactly are you upset about?

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:33 (twenty years ago)

xpost he looks more puzzled than shocked

gem (trisk), Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:33 (twenty years ago)

not reallyupset, just curious why it's not ridiculed yet? thought I'd take the reigns and be an "aggro" poster myself. i like that image a lot suggests.

i'm using it from now on

upset?, Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:34 (twenty years ago)

The world hates a smartarse, son.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:35 (twenty years ago)

then you are hanging out at the wrong website trayce.

haha, Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:35 (twenty years ago)

i think your definition of aggro is a bit different to mine

gem (trisk), Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:36 (twenty years ago)

here's a better shocked one:
http://images.somethingawful.com/reviews/movies/druids/druids_27.jpg

richardk (Richard K), Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:36 (twenty years ago)

that one is the best. i will actually use THAT one from now on.

re: gem, does it really matter what our definitions are?

amazing, Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:38 (twenty years ago)

xpost: not to overanalyse this mentalist topic but isn't the 'shockah' part of it a reference to tabloid headlines? thus not easily replaced by a shocked/vacant expression?

no of course it doesn't matter amazing. much like discussion board memes don't matter?

gem (trisk), Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:40 (twenty years ago)

you go!
i could have called that response from a mile away.

not to be rude, but really shouldn't "us" clever ILE types have a better retort than the obvious? much like using shocka, i'd say...

touche!, Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:41 (twenty years ago)

haha you're a corker touche! it would be less confusing if you stuck to one 'clever' name though... as i am not 'clever' but actually fairly dim. my apologies for messing with your judgment.

gem (trisk), Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:43 (twenty years ago)

you aren't dim. you are bright bright bright, just like my special names....i'll miss you.

ultimately, Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:44 (twenty years ago)

Eff this, I'm gonna go read Perry Bible Fellowship instead.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 14 August 2005 05:47 (twenty years ago)

some stockholm cindy talking (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 14 August 2005 08:06 (twenty years ago)

My favourite tabloid word is Sex-sayshunal.

But I might use shockah at the end of every sentence for a bit just to provide sustenance for Terry the Troll.

The Specs in Your Soul Will Damn You to Hell (noodle vague), Sunday, 14 August 2005 08:29 (twenty years ago)

i love it how teh most incisive indie fuxxors stop by to wash away the stagnation DERE

now that's what i call sustenance, Sunday, 14 August 2005 09:57 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha - just as I clicked on New Answers to find this as the top, a guest on BBC Radio 5Live said: "Posh Spice in 'not very well-read' shocker".

I think the only thing vaguely ILE-ish about "shockah" is the spelling. As Jody said, it's a long-standing (and rather tired, yes) parody of tabloid headline speak.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 14 August 2005 10:01 (twenty years ago)

I say it in real life, sometimes, but I am tired and cliched and should obviously be ashamed of myself.

tremendoid (tremendoid), Sunday, 14 August 2005 10:32 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, it bears reminding that many (most?) memes that are identified with ILx got their start well outside of ILx. "Rockist," "mentalist," "cockfarmer," "-xxor" and Momus are all examples of this.
