its 7.99 for a month, for four titles or something. anyone done this? is it worth it? sounds cheaper than my local blockbuster where its 3.50 per title for 2 nights. plus amazon has more range. would people recommend it?

well local ones are 3.50 for two nights for brand new films, but older ones not so much (2 quid a week at mine -- public libraries are even cheaper). and you get to actually choose at libraries. amazon it's luck of the draw what you get.

We are checking out amazon because LOVEFILM has gotten so bad. It seems like they (LOVEFILM) have either suddenly got too popular for their own good, or they just butter up new customers for their first six months, because these days I am lucky if I get a film that's in my top ten. They may as well call themselves "MMM.. would quite like to see FILM" as far as the service goes. They still have a much better range than most local DVD rental stories, though.

i have my reasons for not loving LOVEFILM, but i just like going to the video shop anyway. my local dvd store is very good though. blockbusters tend to be shit.

Do you have some beef with Charity?

the problem for me is that where i live, my blockbuster which was quite large, has shut down. im left with two libraries full of decent but old titles, and two average rental shops which are kinda crap. i might have to check out lovefilm.

no, not at all, quite the opposite, just with time out, and the unbelievably shoddy editing of TO reviews on the lovefilm site. i know most media organizations own the reviews ect outright and can do what they like with them, but that doesn't make it cool. eg the time out film guide: contributors don't even get a free copy.

Lovefilm turned into a disgrace for me in much the same way the Nipper describes but they also sent dvd's that weren't in my list, dvd's that were too scratched to play and gave really bad customer service too.

www.screenselect.co.uk is worth a try. They claim to have the biggest range in the UK and have been good to me so far. They use a priority system (1/2/3) rather than a queueing system tho which is mildly annoying but I always seem to be getting things which i've prioritised highest. This is much better than getting the dvd that's languishing 138th in my queue.

one month passes...
I've just got back from Canada -- what's the best one of these to use? There's that store in Camden, and Camden Libraries, but the rest of the rental places are boggins round here why I live, (i.e., Hendon.)
