It's half past eleven in the morning, and I have already eaten my lunch

Sometimes it's such a bad idea to bring in lunch from home. It calls to me, from my desk drawer.

C J (C J), Monday, 15 August 2005 09:35 (twenty years ago)

Eat me now! I'm such a delicious sandwich! Go on, you're starving hungry really, aren't you?

C J (C J), Monday, 15 August 2005 09:37 (twenty years ago)

What was it?

beanz (beanz), Monday, 15 August 2005 10:11 (twenty years ago)

Me talking to Amanda Platell?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 15 August 2005 10:15 (twenty years ago)

It sounds like you could be possessed by the evil 'eat rings around you' spirit, CJ! Felt any presences lately? ;-)

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Monday, 15 August 2005 10:18 (twenty years ago)

Meh.

It was just a tuna and avocado sandwich on granary bread, but if I bring lunch in to work I seem to have to scoff it mid-morning. No willpower, that's my trouble.

C J (C J), Monday, 15 August 2005 10:20 (twenty years ago)

Im always tempted to eat lunch early if I fetch anything from home.
Usually though I trudge across the road at 12 to get some kind of slop from the canteen.
who like me has a work canteen? and what is it like.
mine is sodexho run.

willdabeast, Monday, 15 August 2005 10:24 (twenty years ago)

i've been ignoring the "eat me eat me" cries of my sandwich since 10.30.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 15 August 2005 10:38 (twenty years ago)

Sometimes I'm not even hungry mid-morning, but I eat my lunch anyway. I think my teeth just get bored.

C J (C J), Monday, 15 August 2005 10:40 (twenty years ago)

I do this all the time. Then I have to go and buy cake for lunch. But, I've figured out that if I put my sandwich in the fridge in the kitchen as soon as I get in, usually I can't be bothered to go and retrieve it till I'm really hungry.

NickB (NickB), Monday, 15 August 2005 10:50 (twenty years ago)

Inspired by you, CJ, I went to the sandwich shop fully intending to get a tuna and avocado sandwich on granary. But I came back with a toasted mozzarella, aubergine and tomato ciabatta. Not sure what happened.

beanz (beanz), Monday, 15 August 2005 10:53 (twenty years ago)

Aww, gimme a bite!

NickB (NickB), Monday, 15 August 2005 10:55 (twenty years ago)

Beanz, can we adapt this thread into a "where do you get lunch in Soho" discussion? Cos I am bored rigid with most of my choices, especially as I very seldom eat sandwiches. And I'#m usually on some kind of diet. Help!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 15 August 2005 11:01 (twenty years ago)

I wasn't tempted to eat my sandwich early AT ALL today. It was deeply uninspiring, plus I'd forgotten to put it in the fridge so it had gone sort of limp.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 15 August 2005 11:04 (twenty years ago)

No wonder I am getting steadily crankier as the day progresses, and it's not all due to the idiocy of the marketing department. I actually forgot to eat at all. Usually I crack out the fresh veggies and hummus at about noon, but I am an hour behind my eating schedule and my stomach is rumbling!

Mrs. Cranky (From Crankytown) (kate), Monday, 15 August 2005 11:10 (twenty years ago)

It's 8:15 and I was eyeing my lunch before I read this thread. Now I'm shamed into waiting at least until 11:30. OK, 11:00.

Draw Tipsy, ya hack. (dave225.3), Monday, 15 August 2005 11:13 (twenty years ago)

Mmm mmmm this is gooood and I've got aubergine juice on my desk.

Today I went to a shop on Whitcomb street, between Haymarket and Leicester Sq. (Don't know the name, sorry, but it's next door to a barbers'.) Not Soho but not far.

beanz (beanz), Monday, 15 August 2005 11:14 (twenty years ago)

my lunch made it to 11:40. i blame this on lack of clementines that usually live in my drawer but which are absent due to eating them all on friday.

koogs (koogs), Monday, 15 August 2005 11:22 (twenty years ago)

i gave in, but half past one is respectable.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 15 August 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

i don't understand why this is being portrayed as such a bad thing. what this means is that you're getting your first lunch out of the way to leave room for 13:30 seconds!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 15 August 2005 11:25 (twenty years ago)

"Eat me now! I'm such a delicious sandwich! Go on, you're starving hungry really, aren't you?"

"What was it?"

"Me talking to Amanda Platell?"

Are you absolutely sure that describing yourself as a sandwich is going to have the desired effect?

There's a punchline involving tuna that I ain't gonna make

It's 8, I've been at work since a bit before 5, and it's time for second breakfastses.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 15 August 2005 12:06 (twenty years ago)

Teeny, are you part of a wacky, trash-talking "morning crew"?

Truckdrivin' Buddha (Rock Hardy), Monday, 15 August 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

not anymore!

My stomach just rumbled really loudly.

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 10:16 (twenty years ago)

so hungry, so so hungry.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

COME TO CHICKEN COTTAGE, MARKELBY! I'll stand outside and watch.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 10:24 (twenty years ago)

I gave in and am eating now. Mainly because I need a break.

Mmm, my hummus today is olive flavoured. I wonder how much hummus I have to eat before I will actually turn into a chick pea.

Mrs. Cranky (From Crankytown) (kate), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 10:27 (twenty years ago)

I'd be interested to know. Make sure you tell us when it happens

I've just got a toasted ciabatta with mozzarella, avocado and tomato – so similar to yesterday's it seems decadent. Different shop, though. Does that make it any better?

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 10:35 (twenty years ago)

I was hungry all morning too, but resisted my sandwich until a fairly respectable midday.

I blame my hunger on the porridge I've been eating for breakfast recently, instead of the usual two slices of toast. I thought porridge was supposed to fill your tummy up better, central heating for kids type-of-thing, but clearly this is a lie. I'm not nearly as hungry during the morning after I've had toast and marmite for brekkie. I am porridge-immune, obv.

C J (C J), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 10:37 (twenty years ago)

i ate 3 chicken thighs for breakfast today at 8am.

almost getting hungry again now.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 10:41 (twenty years ago)

I'd like to think that was from a genetically-modified or mutant three legged chicken, btw.

I had Alpen for breakfast today and I was not as peckish later as when I have toast. But my god how much SUGAR do they put in that stuff? It tastes nothing like my usual muesli which seems to derive its flavour from actual FRUIT and NUTS and stuff. Grr.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:18 (twenty years ago)

made it past 12 today with help of two clementines and a few of those ricecake things that taste like salty cardboard.

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:32 (twenty years ago)

this is why you should go for healthy options like CHICKEN which is sugar free!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

Snacks are cheating. And rice cakes smell! (I sound like my sister)

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

Yeah rice cakes smell of gas, I hate them.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

I foil the lunch cravings by having a heavy, savory breakfast. Today it's a cup of seasoned lentils, sometimes it's hummus & corned beef hash (have to get the cholesterol in). If I have sweets for brek, then I want my savory lunch sooner. I don't really like sweet foods, though, and if it were up to me life would consist of eggy, cheesy, rich sauces on everything.

Laurel, Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

I bought some Alpen recently because it was on a BOGOF offer in Tesco's, but I realise now that I don't actually LIKE Alpen. I'd forgotten how dusty it was.
