Repo Man

walter kranz (walterkranz), Monday, 15 August 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Ai lien,

Show something obvious like Star Wars or something, but put the projector on the other side of the sheet. You'll get to see a classic movie in a whole new [reversed] angle!

Sorry that I've never made it to this event. Your warnings of bringing mosquito repellant pretty much scared me off.

xp - (Though I would totally come to see Repo Man.)

THE STUFF

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Monday, 15 August 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

We do this too. So far we've watched:
North by Northwest
What's Up Doc?
Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad World
The Spanish Prisoner
A Shot in the Dark
Ghost & Mr. Chicken
Big Night

Draw Tipsy, ya hack. (dave225.3), Monday, 15 August 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

The Stuff-- as in the movie where the tasty treat turns people into zombies? It's like the best 1.99 I've ever spent!

Lindsey B, Tuesday, 16 August 2005 01:43 (twenty years ago)

maybe some Tim Burton movies?
hmm it's not Xmas yet though.
Anyway, Big Fish popped in my mind, because it always does when i see a recommend me a movie thread. Oh and the giant playing in that particular movie just died, so.. watch it in honour of him. Good movie.

Ludo (Ludo), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

thx for your suggestions, we've still no idea what to play. and to worsen matters, the local newspaper will be there to take photos and take notes! apparently, this is a trend across the states.

ai lien (kold_krush), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

If the Newspaper's going to be there, then you should watch THE FRONT PAGE, starring Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, a vintage Lemmon/Matthau marathon would be SWEET. Fortune Cookie, Odd Couple, and, um, Buddy Buddy?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 14:20 (twenty years ago)

i'm actually writing all of this stuff down

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

What an excellent idea! I vote for Jaws as I saw this at a drive in movie once & it was fantastic. Or perhaps American Wereeolf in London.

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Er, that would be werewolf!

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

We also showed Stop Making Sense and the Live Roxy Music DVD after the movies as a stick around and drink & socialize backdrop. It's pretty cool to have a 9x12 image of that going in the background...

I agree with things like North by Northwest or Rear Window, but on an outdoor screen I'd also enjoy things like:
Indiana Jones
Bladerunner
Evil Dead II & Army of Darkness
Turkish Star Wars (okay, I'm joking. sort of.)
Top Gun
Die Hard!
Young Frankenstein
and some others that have already been mentioned, for sure.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

Can you do 3D movies with glasses and all? I seem to recall seeing a feature-length 3D 3 Stooges movie on a Halloween of yore, that could be excellent fun 9x12.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

ZARDOZ

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

You could show CLUE and CLUELESS as a double-feature.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

and that movie with the blind ice skater who wins some kind of ice skating comp at the end but the audience throws roses onto the ice and the guy says 'omg i forgot about the roses!' and she trips over them and everyone laughs

I’ve seen this & it’s gonna do my head in trying to find out what it was.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

Zardoz seconded.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

Gremlins

'80s teen awesomeness:

'50s Super-8 footage of roadside attractions + "Murder Was the Case" = joy

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
OK, hardly any of these are what I'm looking for this time... I need a vintage madcap comedy for a party where people will be coming and going (and goind and coming .. and always too soooon. I already ruled out Blazing Saddles, thanks..) and only partially paying attention to the movie.... So to Lemon/Mathau ideas might be good, but I need more ideas .. something slapstick but still funny. It's a Madmadmadmadworld would be perfect if it weren't so long. And this is for a party for people from work, so it needs to be slightly restrained. Also, the Thin Man would be great, but morans from work might be turned off by black & white.

So suggestawayarooney...

Hey y'all, ai lien and her friends made the cover of our statewide newspaper's entertainment section a few weeks ago because of these backyard movies.

I say that they should keep it up through the winter. I'd love to watch One Crazy Summer in B-R's driveway in the middle of December.
