Nick, as a fellow Terrastock fiend, I implore you -- go somewhere else. You will go nuts within a day.

I assume you have someone to show you around? Are you staying somewhere out in the woods? In that case, relax and enjoy.

But if you're going to stay in "urban" Olympia, then you'd probably want to try something else after a couple of days.

the only good thing about oly is its proximity to places that aren't oly.

This also being summer i.e. not as many students.. things will be even more bore-tastic in Olympia nightlife than normally.

I'd say Olympia is more fun than... hmmm, Salem, Oregon. Or Carson City, Nevada. It's not THAT bad.

*trying hard not to break down here*

I think Olympia has more going on than Aberdeen!

dang! you all are excited!

My folks live in olympia now. My dad teaches at evergreen. I was out there a couple of years ago for a little while (in July that time, I think) and it wasn't so bad. Can't say as I'd like to live there, but I've been in worse places.

When I was there I went to one show-- Dub Narcotic, Creme Blush, and a couple of other bands I forget.

Well, I've got a couple of friends in Portland I want to bump into, so I know I'll be heading down there for 2 days probably. I'll be kicking it with my daughter (4.5yo), but my folks'll be kind enough to let me hit the night life if something's going.

I figure we might head up to mt. renier or something one day...to the waters another.

Anyhow, I thought it was fairly beautiful country, but the strip logging was pretty intense...this weird sort of ent mass murder or something.

That being that, on the 20th is an Old Time Relijun show in Olympia. for $5 I might oughtta check it out.

And I'm going to check in on the local community radio goings on -- there's KAOS at evergreen, but also KOWA an LPFM station that seems to be having some difficulties--I'd like to catch up with them, see what's going on. For those who don't know, we started an LPFM station here in the lovely Berkshires (WBCR-LP, 97.7fm great barrington).

later.

According to Strongo-Jess, there's some hot indie girl with a big ass who rides her bike around Olympia. You should probably just look for her.

if you're going to Portland, then make sure to hit Mt. St. Helens while you're at it, since it's just north and east of the state border.

Also, Seattle is just an hour north.. so if you want a good day trip, there you go.

We've been over there for the past three weekends (dad's in hospital there). 3/4 of the downtown is vacant storefronts, but there was one club (The Vault?) that seemed to have something going on, not sure what though. Not much. Even the coffee shops were shut down at 9 pm on Saturday. It is pretty country, especially the Nisqually valley just north. And the drive over to the rainforest on the peninsula and the coast is nice.

Jaq, best wishes to your dad.

Gah, I don't remember that much being empty when I visited a few years ago. Ah well... I guess we'll visit the scenic sights of water and land, hit rainy day records and have a couple of days touristing in Portland and perhaps Seattle.

There ya go. Whoda thunk that my town of 7500 has just as much going on.

thanks all.

Take the Olympia brewery tour! It's interesting & you get to learn about regional history that's really cool to know & also at the end they let you drink a whole lotta free very fresh beer including a dark one that's only available directly from the brewery

Hi Nick!!

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 11:40 (twenty years ago)

Thanks Nick, for your wishes.

I hate to tell you - the brewery is closed. Miller sold it to a water company awhile back, but they haven't got their act together.

I've been surprised at how little is going on there. Maybe things are livelier out by Evergreen.
