UK ILXORS want a free xbox360?

If I can get 12 people signing up(and they themselves get 12 people signing up) I can get a new xbox 360 free. And if you sign 12 people up etc you get a free one too.

http://FreeXbox360s.co.uk/index.php [referral number removed--you may want to read the rest of the thread before you try this --mod]

I'd be grateful if anyone can help me out and in the process get themselves a freebie too.

Do you have to be in the UK????????

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

This again?

It won't happen.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

Yeah , Dan you need to be in the UK. Sorry. Perhaps theres a US equivalent somewhere.

And I fear Mark is OTM but hey it's worth a go. Maybe we can all end up with free xbox 360's. If not then we havent lost anything.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:03 (twenty years ago)

no, thanks

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, what can you lose? Nothing. :-)

This is like The Pyramid Game with Steve Jones.

Or something else to do with pyramids?

JimD (JimD), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

You're denying Kerr a free xbox. :-( It's not fair.

nathalie starts to cry each time we meet (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

I tried that free ipod site a while ago and it was not free at all! You had to sign up to insurance and change your electricity supplier and stuff. I can't believe how gullible I am. This looks similar.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

Don't you have to pay for the compulsory "offer" you sign up for?

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

I hope this isn't, Cathy!

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

I don't see anything about payment.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

4. 4FreeNetwork is not responsible for any unknown or unexpected charges that you receive from one or more of our offers. Read the offers terms and conditions before signing up.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

Nathalie, are you such a sucker you can't recognise a really fucking obvious pyramid scheme???

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

4FreeNetwork reserves the right to change its Terms & Conditions at any time, for any reason, without notice

!!!

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

Bah. I'll trust my instincts in future.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:18 (twenty years ago)

If an offer looks to good to be true, it usually is. File under "Pyramid schemes are for suckers" I'm afraid.

M Rissbrook (Koorbssir), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:18 (twenty years ago)

There was a large thread on this one a while ago, but it got deleted as spam, even though I argued against, as it held info about 'what happens if you do'.

Although now, this thread has done the same, in precis.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

Well I presume they can't force people to pay up.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

Markelby, it doesn't look like a pyramid scheme. It looks like 4FreeNetwork are getting paid by companies to get 13 people at a time to open accounts with those companies. I'm sure a lot of companies would pay easily the price of an xbox for that kind of sign-up rate. So you probably do get an xbox, but the price is getting plagued with junk mail for the rest of your life and (as far as I can see) changing your utility supplier or signing up for some other service you didn't want.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

This kind of thing must be far more successful than cold calling.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

did you sign up to any services?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

What exactly happened when you signed up for a free ipod, Cathy?
Was it the same people as this?

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

Within one generation of successful xbox winners, 144 xboxes would be needed. 2 generations would require 20,736. 3 generations, 248,832. 4 generations, 2,985,984. 5 generations, 35,831,808. Are there even that many xboxes on the planet?

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

but yeah basically what cathy said.. unless you're absolutely sure you can back out from signing up to services you'll end up paying for a bunch of things you don't need (and 12 other friends doing so) in order to get your xbox

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

Cathy, maybe you're right - but it's pretty clear that it IS a vicious marketing scheme likely to cause misery and the fact that some people see no harm in it is precisely WHY so much of this shit exists.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

Actually, those terms and conditions are totally unenforceable in a court of law. But, hey, if you have nothing better to do and like hassle...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

beanz not quite - after one generation of successful xbox winners, 1 xbox is needed! by the time you need to give out 144 xboxes you'd already have 20736. basically it will never get to 2,985,984 xboxes because that would mean 35,831,808 people signing up to this.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

wait is that right?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

Well, I just gave them my email address (not my real one, my spammy one) out of curiosity as to what the scam was, and it soon became apparent that you had to sign up to two 'offers' before the registration was complete. The offers were things like credit cards, phone companies, etc. Needless to say, I didn't continue.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

Well anyone who signs up just doesn't sign up to anything and forgets about a free xbox.
But yeah some might actually sign up for services just to get a freebie.
But at least they can't force people to pay up.

Wheres Esther when you need her!!

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

Yes ken, I should have said one generation of xbox winners = 144 sign ups

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

we skipped 144*12 = 1728!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, apart from the seriously dodgy terms and conditions it looks legal though. It's just like a bank giving you freebies when you sign up to an account, only paying someone else to do it in an aggressive and misleading way. Is that legal? I don't know anything about the law.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

The best offer is for a screenselect free DVD trial. Get everyone to sign up for that and your laughing.

Mark, Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

...will get louder or more genuine-sounding?

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:34 (twenty years ago)

It's his fault I Signed up!

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

what is this?

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

i am always crap with these things. i always sign up for store cards too with the plan to never use them (except i always forget to pay off the initial purchase and have to pay the £20 late payment fees :-( ). (e.g. the ikea store card. which conveniently seems to have no method of payment that takes less than 3 days to process, so even if you remember to pay on time, you can still be late paying off your fees :\\\)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

like if you're super-organised and can remember to pay for everything in time and cancel deals at the right moments, you can sometimes make some profit out of these. but i am always crap with it.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

Papa John's was giving away BlackBerries last month with an order, but then I realized you had to sign some two year service contract with a particular provider.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 15:42 (twenty years ago)

like some kind of orchard?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

That Papa John's BlackBerry deal was worse than most contracts that wireless companies provide! It had a two year minimum contract or something insane, I hope no one fell for it.

mike h. (mike h.), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:19 (twenty years ago)

You're all crazy. This is another one of thos stupid pyramid schemes. If you can't see that you must:

A) Have just started using the internet; or,
B) Are just plain sadass.

This scheme has been in use since the begining of the internet. All they want is money. Isn't that what everybody wants? Money, money, money. I feel so worked up now, I think I'm gonna asplode!

walnut, Monday, 29 August 2005 05:22 (twenty years ago)

GLOBAL ILXORS want a free Commodore 128? All you have to do is pay shipping from Canada!! :D I'm actually serious, but you could probably find one in like a thrift shop freebie bin or something.

LOAD "JEOPARDY" ,8,1

Poppy (poppy), Monday, 29 August 2005 05:48 (twenty years ago)

This site actually is not a pyramid scheme you can join the site at anytime and have as much chance of getting an xbox as anybody else above or below you. The site owners make money by the offers which pay for the xbox's.
