ai lien (kold_krush), Friday, 19 August 2005 06:26 (twenty years ago)

Tonite (Friday): relaxing with some wine and TV, alone cos my boi wont be home til late from work :(
tomorrow: maybe some shopping in the morning if it isnt raining, then to my friend K's for an Indian dinner and girlynight at hers. I'm a bit wary of this - "girls nights" give me the fear.
Sunday - nowt much, but plan on cooking a lovely posh roast dinner with wine and candles and relaxing for me and the lad. We need some alonetime together.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 19 August 2005 06:54 (twenty years ago)

Friday: ex-pat wine reception in Enoteca on the north side near Jervis Street Center in Dublin. I'm Irish, they're not. The beautiful ones can think of me as their welcoming comittee, the ugly ones can have my pity.

Saturday: Australia v South Africa with Sister's SA boyfriend. Drinking and celebrating another victory for South Africa hopefully involving buckets of decent red wine. Dancing, please let there be dancing. Bed. Alone? Who knows...

Sunday: Walk, papers, call family, brunch, shopping for bookshelves, drink, dinner, drink.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Friday, 19 August 2005 06:55 (twenty years ago)

Tonight: Poptimism
Saturday: Luxembourg at the Windmill (my sex drive could do with a bit of a kick, I think it will do me good to see the lust-inducing boys, if it doesn't make me too angsty)
Sunday: Morgan Und Nite at the 12-Bar (I don't actually believe that Mr. Knight can play guitar without all his pedals, so I have to witness him doing the acoustic thing to believe it.)

Blimey! And here I was thinking I would have a nice, quiet weekend with nothing to do.

Win A Lie-Down, Mrs. Davies (kate), Friday, 19 August 2005 07:00 (twenty years ago)

I had plans but someone has fucked up with my salary big time in that it has not been paid into my account today as it should have been. Unless this is sorted out mega-pronto my revised plans for the weekend will involve a hot bathtub, some pills and some razorblades because I really can't take any more of anything from anybody.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 19 August 2005 07:04 (twenty years ago)

booze, booze and more booze. a meeting with our likely-soon-to-be-ex-label manager to tell him his services are unlikely to be required further. and a stocktake of our gear prior to our first self-recording next weekend. how excitement.

jimmy glass (electricsound), Friday, 19 August 2005 07:10 (twenty years ago)

Friday: work
Saturday: work
Sunday: work

Sunday: jill's birthday party

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 19 August 2005 07:35 (twenty years ago)

My bank fucked up. They've had computer problems this week so everyone's salary payments are going to be a day late, i.e. Saturday. Just what you need when you have to do a lot of things on the Friday. So no Poptimism, probably no weekend either.

I'm so fucking sick of all of this. The second time the bank has fucked me up in the last month-and-a-half.

Maybe I'll just go to bed. Wake me up when the world is different, and better.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 19 August 2005 07:48 (twenty years ago)

I am getting a train up to Nong Khai and then crossing the border into Laos. I'll be in Luang prabang all week. I hope that it is not raining.

Paul Kelly (kelly), Friday, 19 August 2005 07:51 (twenty years ago)

Ugh, things that bad with the label eh? That blows :(

yeah, but it's not as bad as all that. we stand to do far better for far less doing it ourselves. there's something in that for everyone.

jimmy glass (electricsound), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:01 (twenty years ago)

Tonight I will probably stay in and have a few beers, watch telly with the wife and listen to some of our new music purchases.

Tomorrow I'm going to Reading to see off a friend who's moving to Spain for a couple of years next week. I might get down there early and go to the Sound Machine record shop before we go out. The night will most likely involve playing table football, huge amounts of booze, and dancing to cheesy music down the After Dark Club.

Sunday I'll be going for a greasy spoon breakfast to sort out my hangover then back to London to clean the flat (boo).

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:11 (twenty years ago)

I believe a trip to Reading is planned for tomorrow. I know not why. Also a trip to the post office, to post the latest items from my Massive Clearance Sale. There is a (get this) sangria party on Saturday night, hosted by members of the Spanish diaspora. Tonight I hope to watch some television, maybe visit the lavatory. Sunday I expect to be an oasis of inactivity.

I wonder if I will bump into Colonel Poo.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:13 (twenty years ago)

"My bank fucked up. They've had computer problems this week so everyone's salary payments are going to be a day late, i.e. Saturday."

Marcello,

Obviously the bank must actually have your money (if they didn't there's no way they'd be able to credit it to your account tomorrow as the BACS system doesn't operate at weekends), and indeed they must know they've got it, so I'd be inclined to contact them immediately and tell them that seeing as this is all their fault, you expect:
- an automatic £1K extension of your O/D until the money's actually been paid in, with no charges or interest;
- interest at overnight money market deposit rates on the money they're depriving you of (this is only what they'll effectively be making on it after all!);
- compensation for the inconvenience and distress they've caused you (this has got to be worth a pony I reckon).

Stewart Osborne ACA (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:20 (twenty years ago)

Well, anything's possible! I believe several pubs will be visited on our way to After Dark heaven.

(xpost)

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:20 (twenty years ago)

Wtf's the big fascination with Reading all of a sudden?

I'm finally leaving the dump for good after 42 years in 7 days time - and suddenly all these bright young things are talking about travelling down from London to nag out in the poxy After Dark club of all places!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:25 (twenty years ago)

Tonight: beer & snooker (exciting stuff :-/ )
Tomorrow: Enduring the Old Firm game then more beer and going to see a band who don't sound very promising but might be a laugh.
Sunday: Cycling, possibly, hangover permitting.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:38 (twenty years ago)

oh no they have the money all right, it was paid in on wednesday. if i go to my local branch with my passbook and appropriate ID i can get the money out that way. it's just a pain that's all and i can't actually do even that until tomorrow because i didn't bring my passbook with me today AS I DIDN'T THINK I'D NEED TO and therefore have to go all the way back to streatham etc etc.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:44 (twenty years ago)

not alot of plans, Tiga is playing here for the first time tonight, I really want to go but probably amn't well enough. If I can drag myself out I'll go.

Saturday I'm working, might buy some records and clothes. Sunday I don't know yet, I guess hang out around the house.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:47 (twenty years ago)

dyou have a credit card, marcello?

N_RQ, Friday, 19 August 2005 08:53 (twenty years ago)

yeah, i kept just the one after laura died for emergencies. i don't really like having to use it, but this is an emergency so i s'pose i'll have to.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:17 (twenty years ago)

Friday: curry! beer! parents! sleep!
Saturday: bikes! mud! smiles! moving 20 heavy sacks of rubble out of our garden and taking it up the tip! improvised noise with Julian Br4dley at Brighton's finest lesbian pub! more beer! cigarettes!
Sunday: children! goats! chickens! tractors! picnic! being a silly arse! working on my environmental science project! drinking armagnac! eating chocolate! music! maybe a run! who knows!

(Marcello - someone will buy you a drink later, right? and if the money will be in your account tomorrow, you might be able to get to it later *tonite!* depending on what time they do the transfers (your bank could tell you - talk to them!))

NickB (NickB), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:21 (twenty years ago)

friday: relaxing, watching best of CSI (altho disappointed that its miami and not vegas tonight)
saturday: still unsure of plans, i want to get into manchester but i think the rest of the clan are willing to make do with staying local, so it may just be a few of us going into macca.

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:26 (twenty years ago)

I talked to my bank before anyone else. It will definitely not show up on my account until tomorrow. Besides which I was going to have a haircut tonight before coming down and...it's just too much, my psyche's been shot to pieces.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:28 (twenty years ago)

There’s a big house party in a place called Devizes (Wiltshire 200 miles from my currant location), which I could go to, but I can’t decide if I want to go or not.

Options are, go to house party or stay at home and chill.

What should I do?

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:29 (twenty years ago)

Tonight, heading for beers with my mate Steaks at glamourous Melbourne bar Der Raum.

Tomorrow, shopping for business shoes that don't have holes in the bottom, clothes shopping with Cait, Kung Fu Hustle in the evening.

Sunday, cleaning and preparing lessons.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

house parties are always interesting, you should go

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:36 (twenty years ago)

Marcello, this bank this is just a blip, try not to let it throw you off too much. Hang in there!

Used to live near Devizes - scene of the Battle of Roundway Down. The "bloody ditch" is worth a look. Also, IIRC there's a huge pie factory there.

NickB (NickB), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:38 (twenty years ago)

tonight - friday - watching shit telly while my flatmates have a sing along. I have already been out to dinner and watched an angry property owner try to apprehend some people who vomited in his appartment building's lift
Saturday- fix broken light fixture in my room (bloody student flats) work. Drinks. The Renderers gig.
Sunday - Laze. Hoorah!

Menelaus Darcy (Menelaus Darcy), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:42 (twenty years ago)

Sunday: no actual plans. Hopefully more book/record/comic triage, and maybe having people come over and pick through the comics that I intend to thrown out.

Saturday: Watching the Poptimism Away Team DJ at Lara Byrne's sister's wedding.

Tonight: Er, I don't actually know. There was some confusion about the wedding date, so though I got super-cheap tickets a month ago to get me over to Poptimism and back, it was only this week that I realised that I could actually make it. On the other hand, accentmonkey and Bloke are going to be in town for drinks before eloping. On the other other hand, I've actually bought tickets to go to London. I'll just decide as the day goes on.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:47 (twenty years ago)

I'm kind of treating this weekend as an unnofficial 30th Birthday, as there was nothing much on clubwise on my actual birthday and there is a superb line-up of nights this weekend.

Tonight: Kliks allnighter - Brighton's finest minimal house night with liveset from Areal Records 'Metope' at Audio from10-4, followed by afterparty in illegal drinking den from 4 till whenever.

Tomorrow: Possibly a rather late emergence from bed, and then onto The Ocean Rooms who are hosting Glasgow's (and ILM regular 'Stirmonster's) Optimo night at The Ocean Rooms.

Sunday: Extreme recovery session I would imagine. Possibly involving sunday roast and beers.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:58 (twenty years ago)

sunday: remain in edinburgh

N_RQ, Friday, 19 August 2005 10:03 (twenty years ago)

Nick, you should try and make it to Optimo tomorrow after the pub - I think you'd appreciate it!

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Friday, 19 August 2005 10:18 (twenty years ago)

Tonight: leaving work early, packing car with hi-fi speakers, turntable and one last box of CD's (everything else has already gone!), clothes, ornaments, food mixer and whatever the fuck else my gf has decided we should move this w/e, then normal Friday evening routine, i.e.: drive down to Portland, pick up Chinese takeaway just before driving on the island, aat and crash out in front of TV, early night.

Tomorrow daytime: into Weymouth shopping / wandering around aimlessly. I have to find my own leaving present from where I'm working now apparently, since they just consulted my gf and she told them no, actually a big fat diamond-encrusted gold fountain pen was a fuckin' stupid thing to buy me (as if they couldn't have worked this out for themselves!). I think the gf's lined up 1 or 2 more properties for us to look at too. Lunch probably either at Muffins (if we're in town) or The Spyglass (if we're not).

Tomorrow eve: almost certainly the Duke Of Edinburgh "House Of Sounds", the rockingest boozer in Weymouth, where (fingers crossed) there'll probably be a (surprisingly excellent) Rod Stewart tribute by a (thoroughly nice) chap called Johnny Mack, or failing that a (quite passable) Elvis / Buddy Holly tribute buy a guy called Andy Arnold. If it's not either of them and it's fuckin' Sunstroke again, I don't know where we're going, 'cos it doesn't look as if either Gothic Chicken / Lucky Bishops / Cheese, Steve Wilson or Freakcircus are playing anywhere. Nevertheless I think I can safely say that I shall managed to get nicely pissed and that we'll end up picking up a couple of burgers from Scoffers on the way home.

Sunday: lie in, probably go for lunch somewhere, probably the cafe at Portland Bill, mess about, drive back to Reading (almost certainly the last time I'll be doing that journey in that direction on a Sunday night, yay!).

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 19 August 2005 10:28 (twenty years ago)

Tonight: Wife's farewell dinner with large group of friends, cuddling with said wife (and our dog)
Tomorrow: Try to not get TOO upset about wife moving (she's moving to LA, where I am to follow in a few months - its a good-but-crappy thing, to be sure), dropping wife and dog off at airport, driving home to the solace of Maker's Mark, attending a party where I will hopefully be sober enough to enjoy it
Sunday: HUGE fat breakfast, back to bed, play music with friends at local bar
Monday: Classes start for my third - and FINAL - year of law school, attempt to make small-as-possible target for Evidence professor

Big Loud Mountain Ape (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Friday, 19 August 2005 10:39 (twenty years ago)

Nick, you should try and make it to Optimo tomorrow after the pub - I think you'd appreciate it!

Yes, I think I probably would. Help break the drunken stagger home up a bit too. I'll bear it in mind, should I have a mind left by the end of the evening. Be good to buy you an unofficial birthday pint though!

NickB (NickB), Friday, 19 August 2005 11:38 (twenty years ago)

Today/tonight: sit at home bored.
Saturday: sit at home bored.
Sunday: sit at home bored.

I fucking hate living here.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Friday, 19 August 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

A warning that it will be £10 after eleven, which is ridiculously steep (it's £5 before)

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Friday, 19 August 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

Today/tonight: sit at home bored.
Saturday: sit at home bored.
Sunday: sit at home bored.
I fucking hate living here.

is there a bowling alley?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 19 August 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

haha, there is one in Tupelo (35 miles away), but I don't have any friends here except my wife, and she doesn't leave the house unless it's on fire. Bowling by myself sounds like the saddest prospect ever.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Friday, 19 August 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

set house on fire then take her bowling

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Friday, 19 August 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

andrewfarrell, re: comics. do you have any love and rockets?

ai lien (kold_krush), Friday, 19 August 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

It's very simple for me -- get on plane late this afternoon, fly home to Carmel for weekend, relax/eat good food/hang around with relatives/etc. Then return Sunday afternoon.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 19 August 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

Fri: Not sure, maybe go to the movies and see The 40-Year-Old Virgin, then come home and hang out.
Sat: Possibly print up fliers for upcoming show during the day, then go see Canasta (jaymc's band) in the evening.
Sun: Band practice, then looks like some friends might be coming over to drink beer in the late afternoon.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 19 August 2005 16:04 (twenty years ago)

Sunday: absolutely nothing at all. Hurrah!

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 19 August 2005 16:32 (twenty years ago)

my weekend started on wednesday in the sense that i started drinking on wednesday, continued on thursday, and i'm torn between continuing tonight by force of will and being wise and resting up. but resting for what? could use a trip to the ocean at some point.

carly (carly), Friday, 19 August 2005 16:42 (twenty years ago)

i would like to be neighbors to some of you

ai lien (kold_krush), Friday, 19 August 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

57 7th (calstars), Friday, 19 August 2005 18:24 (twenty years ago)

mrs fiendish and i are having a few days off work. today we were going to go through to edinburgh and catch some shows, but the fringe website is pish and we discovered everything we wanted to see was sold out. so we booked tickets for rob(ert) newman on tuesday and went for a late lunch at the battlefield rest instead.

tomorrow: get up early (hahahah), go to farmers' market, clean flat, laze about, go to pub with whoever's out and about.

sunday: go to perth to see my folks. eat enormous lunch at the kinloch lodge. come back home. go to optimo for first time in ages (we're too old to go clubbing unless we've got the next day off).

monday: nurse hangover. go to gym. do the happy dance of the not-at-work.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 19 August 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

Sunday: Go to Montreal. Drink and be merry.

Alan Conceicao (Alan Conceicao), Friday, 19 August 2005 21:17 (twenty years ago)

my chinese was delicious and the amount of cashew nuts in my meal would david schwimmer's dad to shame!

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 19 August 2005 21:25 (twenty years ago)

Friday: the rapture & rub/tug dj'ing at happy ending. justine dj'ing at lit.

coincidentally, i tried going to both these places tonight and was SHUT DOWN both times. but i got free booze elsewhere so whatevs.

joseph (joseph), Saturday, 20 August 2005 05:58 (twenty years ago)

i ate loads of pasta and listened to 1930s music in the back room of an italian restaurant tonight, for somebody's birthday. then i went to an empty bar called 'TICO TICO' and listened to richie valens on the jukebox. tomorrow I'm seeing RED EYE and maybe going to a party or possibly just watching something on tv that I've seen before because I always seem to do that!!!

FYI, right now, I am watching THE CROW.

sunday I work. And then I will have a GUEST! Was this too long?

gunther heartymeal (keckles), Saturday, 20 August 2005 06:12 (twenty years ago)

p.s the crow really is pretty boring. except for maybe when he wails on the guitar on the roof. or maybe when he first puts on the makeup. other than that...

also, I realized tonight just how much better a trumpet sounds with a MUTE in it! Whoever invented that is a genius. Real classy.

gunther heartymeal (keckles), Saturday, 20 August 2005 06:14 (twenty years ago)

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Saturday, 20 August 2005 06:31 (twenty years ago)

Maria (Maria), Saturday, 20 August 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

xpost times five, kelly.

saw red eye last night. phwaaaaaar. is it supposed to be a scary movie?

ai lien (kold_krush), Saturday, 20 August 2005 14:23 (twenty years ago)

Halfway through. Yesterday: Poptimism. Was very badly depressed, and people were very nice to me, but I still left earlyish because I didn't feel I could inflict myself further on anyone. Today: did some food shopping. That's about it. Had vaguely intended to take a trip to the Victoria and Albert Museum, to closely study their Japanese lacquerware, but felt far too lousy to try it. Tomorrow I am to meet Ward Fowler*, as he is now known here, for a Tate Modern exhibition, then we are meeting some more friends in the pub.

* Longest friendship on ILX? Since 1981 or 1982.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 20 August 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

hi, martin!

ai lien (kold_krush), Saturday, 20 August 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

Hi!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 20 August 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

actually, was reminded of martin this afternoon - person in front of me in Gosh was buying those followup books to LW&C. also noticed Fopp had Shogun Assassin DVDs for a fiver.

yes, first time in central london whilst shops were open for months. did the usual round of record and comic shops and bought a jacket to replace the one that's been falling apart for the last two years. home about 3. watched Pet Sematary (Tasha Yar AND Herman Munster!). ate. looked at ILE. you are here -< .

koogs (koogs), Saturday, 20 August 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

tba saturday plans are great!

my sister/roommate and i woke up at the leisurely hour of 10 a.m. over coffee and tea (respectively), we decided to go shopping.

because we are awful awful children, we JUST NOW got our dad his father's day gift. we went to the nearest headshop to buy him a new pipe. yes, THAT kind of pipe. then we went to the bank to make our deposits, and then we headed over to the mall. we bought very nice clothes and shoes, all on sale. and then we had lunch. none of us spent over $50. that's good! now it's time to 1/2 sleep 1/2 watch some episodes of the twilight zone. (it is 2:44 p.m.)

ai lien (kold_krush), Saturday, 20 August 2005 18:45 (twenty years ago)

Samurai Executioner is great, Andy! Almost as good as Lone Wolf & Cub. I bought that DVD from HMV recently for £2.99. It's pretty bad.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 20 August 2005 18:45 (twenty years ago)

Carly, want to go to the beach next week if the weather's good? I can't go tomorrow (8/21) but will keep next Sat or Sun clear.

Laurel, Saturday, 20 August 2005 19:28 (twenty years ago)

well?

ai lien (kold_krush), Friday, 2 September 2005 13:03 (twenty years ago)

I repeat: work all weekend. :-) We'll probably sleep late on sunday though and close the shop a bit earlier. Yes, we really live on the wild side.

nathalie's pocket revolution (stevie nixed), Friday, 2 September 2005 13:08 (twenty years ago)

cancelling night out tonight cos too tired.
cancelling big night out tomorrow cos reckon can't be bothered, so will just watch footy instead.
sunday: spring into action!

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 2 September 2005 13:11 (twenty years ago)

I wanted to cancel my plans and just go home tonight and sleeeeep but now I've remembered that my housemates are having a party. Argh. It's in the garden, too. Maybe I'll go and sleep in the guest room instead.

Tomorrow I'm playing a gig at the B&G though I'm doing a Fear about it. :-(

Sunday I am recovering from said gig.

Luminiferous Aether (kate), Friday, 2 September 2005 13:16 (twenty years ago)

Because I have poor time management, I'm not going to the Electric Picnic to camp in a field and watch top bands, because a) I've only had more than 4 hours sleep once this week and b) I can't find the ticket.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 2 September 2005 13:21 (twenty years ago)

get munted

ken c (ken c), Friday, 2 September 2005 13:23 (twenty years ago)

mm there seems to be a recurring theme to my weekends.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 2 September 2005 13:23 (twenty years ago)

nothing really fun: do tons of laundry, pack, and go back to college. also, possibly spend an afternoon cooking things i'm going to crave when i no longer have a kitchen with a spice cupboard (other ingredients i can buy as called for, but spices are expensive if you have to buy a bottle of each and there are several in each dish).

I'm going to have a quiet weekend in and look after the missus, she's been really stressed out this week and needs some TLC.

It's probably just as well it's a quiet one anyway, went to see the Pixies last night and it's my friend's wedding next Wednesday which will be massive so I need some rest!

Friend of mine from England is flying in to Memphis tonight for a business trip. He's got tomorrow off before meetings Monday, so I'm meeting up with him for drinks-foods-seeing the sights. Today, work and more work while my womenfolk go to a Syriana/Lion-Witch-Wardrobe double feature. I might get some catfish for dinner.

Writing a boring take-home final exam that includes such "questions" as "Discuss the ALA Code of Ethics" then studying for a boring final exam which will test my knowledge of reference sources.

Fuck. Fogged-in in Amsterdam, a day's delay, and no Memphis meetup tomorrow. So the new answer is "I'm working all fucking weekend."
