She'll be missed. Incredible woman with a great sense of humour. RIP

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Friday, 19 August 2005 06:56 (twenty years ago)

Oh no, how very sad. RIP.

nathalie starts to cry each time we meet (stevie nixed), Friday, 19 August 2005 07:08 (twenty years ago)

Two of the best gone in a little over a week, both in their 50s. Terrible.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 19 August 2005 07:20 (twenty years ago)

I was just reading about her this morning. I liked her.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 19 August 2005 07:25 (twenty years ago)

Everyone liked her.

First person to ever take on "Minister for Northern Ireland" and not treat is as a punishment.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 19 August 2005 07:28 (twenty years ago)

Mark Grout OTMFM. A legend able to walk the fence without appearing uncaring.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Friday, 19 August 2005 07:38 (twenty years ago)

easily the politician with the best name

ken c (ken c), Friday, 19 August 2005 07:54 (twenty years ago)

Uh, should we ask a moderator to fix the thread title?

I'm hoping that Ian Paisley spontaneously combusts during his tribute to her. If he even does one.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:08 (twenty years ago)

How very sad. She was really the best kind of politician, no one in the current cabinet comes close. RIP, Mo.

Cathy (Cathy), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:22 (twenty years ago)

What's the betting Blair will be at this one?

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)

RIP

Drowning Man (Barima), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)

Sad news indeed.

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:32 (twenty years ago)

Blair would be a total cunt not to go to this funeral.

RIP - Ed will be gutted when he comes back from camping; Mo was his family's neighbour (or similar) for many years.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:41 (twenty years ago)

Blair is a total cunt suzy. I'd say he'll be there anyway.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:56 (twenty years ago)

RIP. she was a thoroughly decent politician - and human being.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:59 (twenty years ago)

Yep, very sad. RIP.

Matt (Matt), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:01 (twenty years ago)

RIP :(

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:18 (twenty years ago)

As Secretary for Northern Ireland, Mowlam had a colourful reputation for cursing like a trooper and, when negotiations were getting tough, of throwing her wig down on the table and exposing the few scraggly bits of hair left after her medical treatment.

What a brilliant way to get people's attention.

RIP

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:20 (twenty years ago)

Blair would be a total cunt not to go to this funeral.

But will Peter Mandelson let him go? Actually he's more likely to show up at Mo's funeral than he ever was likely to go to Robin Cook's.

Diddyismus (Dada), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:25 (twenty years ago)

exactly.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:26 (twenty years ago)

Unlike Gordon Brown...

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:31 (twenty years ago)

Oh the one hand, all the channels were showing Tony Blair this morning. On the other hand, what they were specifically showing was him ungracefully dealing with Mo Mowlam's name getting a standing ovation during his conference speech a few years ago.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

How sad. She seemed good.

beanz (beanz), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:48 (twenty years ago)

what they were specifically showing was him ungracefully dealing with Mo Mowlam's name getting a standing ovation

he was astonishingly snippy about it, wasn't he? you could hear the pissiness in his voice.

you'd think blair might have learned something by now: people appreciate honesty, and it gets results. but no, he'll learn no lessons, our tone. the cunt.

sorry: i'm derailing this thread. apologies.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 19 August 2005 09:57 (twenty years ago)

Yes, but clearly God hates honesty, hence him and Ian Paisley laughing over Mo and Robin's graves.

Blair's voice reminded me of a headmaster who hates the fact that one of his teachers is actually popular with the students. There was a hint of "This is not the place, but I'm disappointed with all of you"

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 19 August 2005 10:02 (twenty years ago)

Nonetheless the insincere platitudes over Mo Mowlam will come easier to Blair than they did with Cook - even Blair was struggling to lie thru his teeth convincingly over Robin Cook's death

Diddyismus (Dada), Friday, 19 August 2005 10:02 (twenty years ago)

Guardian delightfully reminding us all that she did, literally, tell Paisley to FUCK OFF during negotiations for Good Friday Agreement. I am very sad I never got to meet her.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 19 August 2005 10:35 (twenty years ago)

did she? hahahahah, oh god. that's wonderful. fucking hell, mo, you will be sadly, sadly missed.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 19 August 2005 10:55 (twenty years ago)

I'd forgotten about that. RIP :-(

stevo (stevo), Friday, 19 August 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)
