As a part of my job I handle cell phone registrations for private folks and businesses. Today I ran across the craziest firm ever. Check out their products on their website! (Note: this is not a joke. It's a real firm registered in the Finnish trade register and all.)

You won't understand the texts, but basically they just advertise these aprons as cooking supplies for true men. They also promise to provide bulletproof and chemical warfare resistant aprons on special order.

Interestingly, the Finnish word "ämmä" translates to "a broad". And the firm is run by two designer women.

The ad text for "BBQ Commando" goes like this:

"Raw or medium rare surgical strikes out of the barbecue. (A hint to the womanfolk: when in Scotland real men "go commando", they don't even have undies underneath the kilt."

Can you explain "Heat Farmer"?

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Monday, 22 August 2005 12:24 (twenty years ago)

I hope he can't.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 22 August 2005 12:28 (twenty years ago)

No, I don't know what a "heat farmer" is, but the accompanying text translates like this:

"Settler spirit for real steak men."

I have no idea what that means either.

Finland just gets stranger and stranger. I want to visit!

are you one of the models tuomas?

dahlin (dahlin), Monday, 22 August 2005 12:40 (twenty years ago)

Kate, I think most Finns would find this thing strange too. I'm finding it hard not to believe it's a joke, but who the hell would set up a real firm for such a joke?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 22 August 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

(Please do not ruin my image of Finland, T!)

I Dream Of Sleep (kate), Monday, 22 August 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

I guess this is some sort of an attempt to get the masculine men in front of the stove too. "See, cooking can be manly too! With a apron of ours you won't look like a fairy!"

No, you'll just look like a... what is the Finnish word for "mentalist"?
