Who's around? I'll be down there both evenings -- at least for a bit.

Performance Schedule Here.

(LA to thread)

Remy (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 17:59 (twenty years ago)

Suicide Girls at 8pm.... ONLY IN CALIFORNIA

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

New York Dolls are at Bumbershoot in Seattle this year, as well as the Decemberists and Elvis Costello. I'm inordinately pleased by this.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

Wow, looking at that lineup I don't see one reason to go.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 18:35 (twenty years ago)

Remy did you get my phone call?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 18:36 (twenty years ago)

Burning Brides is good!

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

the walkmen aren't really an "outdoor festival" kind of band. they're like mold... they thrive in small, dark, enclosed spaces.

and I can walk out into the world, singing with my people (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

The lineup kinda sucks, but its fun just to go and get sunburned and drink margaritas in the street.

Stuh-du-du-du-du-du-du-denka (jingleberries), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

The lineup always kind of sucks, but it's always a really good time (except for the parking nightmare). I'll definitely be there on Sunday!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:13 (twenty years ago)

I'll be drinking at 4100.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:13 (twenty years ago)

Wow, looking at that lineup I don't see one reason to go.

What? Jody Watley!

I'm lookin' for a new love baby, a new love, yeah yeah yeah!

Roasted corn and funnel cake. Not on the performance lineup, but so worth my time and tummy.

rocknrolldetox (rocknrolldetox), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:14 (twenty years ago)

I'll be out of town. That's probably for the better since I got aggressively propositioned by a strange couple at 4100 last year. I'll be in hiding in NY.

Dr. Glen Y. Abreu (dr g), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

I'll admit that I'm vaguely tempted by Chaka Khan.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

I've totally got to work out a park and cab or park and bus thing this year. I hate hate hate spending a half hour looking for a spot that's a mile or more away.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

I think I'll be there Saturday. Why oh why must Chaka Khan play Sunday?

For those who are there early, I've heard good things about Let's Go Sailing.

rogermexico (rogermexico), Friday, 26 August 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

Vague plottings are still afoot for a small gathering tomorrow -- Remy, Arthur and I have chatted.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 26 August 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

Unfortunately, I am busy Saturday and Saturday night...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 26 August 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

Ah well! Are you up for ArthurFest (the magazine not the person) next weekend or are you escaping town?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 26 August 2005 20:45 (twenty years ago)

I am in town, but with friends visiting. Details?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 26 August 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

Why it's a featured site on your employer's front page today, m'friend! ;-)

http://www.myspace.com/arthurfest

(Seriously, it's been talked about for a bit -- more shaggy rock than I think might be your thing but the film stuff might be up your alley. Still vaguely thinking about both days.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 26 August 2005 20:53 (twenty years ago)

OMGWTF? When did Olivia Tremor Control sneak into the lineup? Suddenly I am interested...

rogermexico (rogermexico), Friday, 26 August 2005 21:03 (twenty years ago)

They are technically not my employer.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 26 August 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

My apologies. Er, your place of renown, then. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 26 August 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

Hmm, if I like:

Sonic Youth
Wolfmother
Yoko Ono
Cat Power
The Juan Maclean
(I think Olivia Tremor Control too, but can't remember very well)

Then which of these other bands should I check out?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 26 August 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone have info on Pole's rep as a live act?

rogermexico (rogermexico), Friday, 26 August 2005 21:23 (twenty years ago)

Sleater-Kinney would definitely be the first thing I'd suggest for ya.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 26 August 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

Not my thing at all.

(this is like allmusic's "similar artists" come to life!)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 26 August 2005 21:27 (twenty years ago)

Hehehe.

Beyond that I don't entirely know where to start, and actually a slew of the bands are new to me -- which is good, I like the idea of sampling a lot of new stuff to see what works and what doesn't.

The Pole addition is nice too assuming the bass is delivered properly ie very very loud.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 26 August 2005 21:29 (twenty years ago)

I might ride my bike there! or maybe not, there's this totally insane but hot girl i'm hoping to hang out with this weekend up in Santa Barbara

gear (gear), Friday, 26 August 2005 21:51 (twenty years ago)

TS: insane but hot vs. hot but insane

rogermexico (rogermexico), Friday, 26 August 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

she's on happy pills and totally out of her mind and keeps sending me emails about how she wants me to sneak in through her window at 3am. all this based around a briefly shared table at a bar and an email exchange.

gear (gear), Friday, 26 August 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

that's for another thread, back to the junction talk
