donut gon' nut (donut), Thursday, 25 August 2005 03:48 (twenty years ago)

So you're saying you're going to miss the re-added minutes censored from the version of 'Babyface' they're playing at the Castro on 9/11?

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 25 August 2005 04:53 (twenty years ago)

Damn terrorists keep winning, bugger.

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 25 August 2005 05:02 (twenty years ago)

I have to fly back on 9/11 to see a terrorist DJ in Seattle! (well, Steve Stapleton, anyway. I'm missing Caroliner live in Seattle for this, by the way.)

donut gon' nut (donut), Thursday, 25 August 2005 05:19 (twenty years ago)

I'll be spinning nothing but songs from this pink and pretty wunderkind

donut gon' nut (donut), Thursday, 25 August 2005 05:21 (twenty years ago)

Who the heck is that? Also where is the Cherry Bar?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 25 August 2005 14:08 (twenty years ago)

You will miss me because I will be out of the country!

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

I feel bad for you!

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

He'll deal!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

Will there be people there I can ask to pinch Alex's nipples or has he outgrown that, now?

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

Haha it was Adam's nipples that got assaulted! But I'll never outgrow nipple pinching.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

Was it? Anyway, I am gratified to hear that your penchant for getting your nipples pinched has not abated. It shows character and purpose.

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

I'm disappointed you forgot, Michael. I suppose we can always blame your advanced years.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

alex, i think it's on 917 Folsom? (info here. if this sounds really noxious to you, i won't take offense.. haha.. i realize this isn't for everybody here.)

donut gon' nut (donut), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

(i'm really excited and nervous about doing this, though.)

donut gon' nut (donut), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

Adam, you can blame my advanced years if you like, but the cognoscenti know it's due to congenital idiocy. Also, please accept my apologies if you're hurt that I don't think about your nipples enough.

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

what time are you on, donut?

also... matmos / fe-mail / lehn&schmickler @ mills on sept 9th if you can make it

milton parker (Jon L), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

also ...fred frith & toychestra/kevin drumm/denny vertigo @ the hemlock on the 10th. Probably sold out by now.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

milton, I have no idea right now. I can ask the curators and get an idea, tho.

My flight to SF leaves early in the morning on Saturday, so I'll be missing that friday night show, unfortunately. :( (Blame work.)

When are the Neg shows in SF again? If there are no planned Northwest shows, I'll probably be coming down for one of those shows, definitely.

donut gon' nut (donut), Thursday, 25 August 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

I'M MISSING FUCKING D VERTIGO!!!

(ok, this is my first and last post about them. I promised myself I wouldn't feed into their calculated hype machine.)

donut gon' nut (donut), Thursday, 25 August 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

yeah, I mean obviously it's not my kind of thing. I was quite a big fan for most of the early 90s, but I sold all my Denny stuff to get some DJ software.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

OK, more info. My set is 11pm to midnight.. followed by mash-up cabaret for a small bit, then the resident DJs finish the night off.

A fraction of the cover charge is going towards hurricane relief efforts.

I will try to get in touch with some of you personally.

*wudge wudge nink nink*

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Thursday, 8 September 2005 01:21 (twenty years ago)

I am going to a JG Ballard Re/search book release thing in Hayes Valley in the early evening (no, he won't be there, but Graeme Revell will be, as will some guy from the Survival Research Labs) but I'm game for anything later.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 8 September 2005 02:26 (twenty years ago)

is Cherry Bar still a lesbian bar?

JAXON (jaxon), Thursday, 8 September 2005 04:40 (twenty years ago)

Of course it is, silly. DB wouldn't play at a straight ba. . . wait is it?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 8 September 2005 04:41 (twenty years ago)

A minor change.. I might be starting at 10:30pm instead of 11pm (and therefore ending at 11:30pm instead of midnight). Or not. Not sure. Still being discussed.

You save money if you get there before 10pm anyway.. and I'll definitely be there the entire five hours plus.. so I'll probably be available to chat, if you plan to appear and stay before and after I spin.

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Friday, 9 September 2005 16:17 (twenty years ago)

OK, I'm here.. on Fell and Market. About to head to Amoeba. shocker.

Fucking BEAUTIFUL day here, btw.

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Saturday, 10 September 2005 18:22 (twenty years ago)

You drug fiend. Oh wait.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 10 September 2005 18:38 (twenty years ago)

Our night is kind of up in the air, but we'll try to head down to the Cherry Bar around 10ish.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 10 September 2005 19:39 (twenty years ago)

Woah weird, I had no idea DB was in town and I bumped into him in Amoeba (I was in the middle of a post run allergy attack and holding Roeg and Bergman DVDs). I told him that Ian Johnson's girlfriend was doing an instore (then onstage, they had just covered JAMC's "Never Understand" for soundcheck)and he watched them for a second and then he took off with an arm full of LPs and CDs (they have baskets BTW, DB). Have fun tonight DB, sorry I didn't see you on the way out.

gygax! (gygax!), Saturday, 10 September 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

if my wife wakes up, maybe we'll come down for this!

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 11 September 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

my god, that happened, didn't it.

I totally thug-lifed with milton p for a long time outside in the middle of the whole thing, but if any of you came down and you didn't find or see me, i totally apologize. if you didn't come down, no worries at all.. it was really, ur, steamy and packed in there. (this is a good thing!)

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Monday, 12 September 2005 00:16 (twenty years ago)

and yeah, i warmed up to Tra La La (the band that gygax! told me was playing in-store when we totally randomly saw each other there) quite a bit! (you could hear them throughout the store). I kinda liked the JAMC cover better during soundcheck because the bassist was hitting the wrong low note, which suits "Never Understand" more faithfully, and was wishing the wrong bass note would be hit again during the main set... I liked the clapping song the best. they were sweet! :) (don't worry, gygax!, you were sweet as always, too, don't you ever forget it.)

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Monday, 12 September 2005 00:19 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, I ended up getting dragged to a lame party instead! I wish I'd gone to the sweaty packed club instead. :(

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 12 September 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

so, is it still a lesbian bar?

Capital Letter Rock (jaxon), Monday, 12 September 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

Well, I saw lots of lezzing Saturday night, but lots of guy-guy action, and guy-girl action. I think it's just an omnisexual bar... or just a omnisexual club night. I didn't really have the energy or fortitude to ask "So, is this a lez joint?"... especially since I had the rare opportunity to enjoy free drinks.

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Monday, 12 September 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

Lots of photos were taken.. they might be at the Bootie site now. but I'm not sure. I'm afraid to look.. haha.

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Monday, 12 September 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

But I remember being at that place before when it was called The Crown and Jewel(?) or something? They used to have metal and punk rock bands play there. I remember seeing Nigel Peppercock opening for an Iron Maiden cover band called Iron Vegan around three or more years ago.

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Monday, 12 September 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

Is that where Matt Crackwhore is booking these days (he's in Nigel Peppercock and booked Kimo's when it was great (99-02))?

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 12 September 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

I don't know.. I don't think so. (Matt Crackwhore is the keyboardist, singer of "The Wizard", right?). Does Cherry Bar still do punk and metal stuff?

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:01 (twenty years ago)

I can't find the SF restaurant thread (on which I complained of the lack of any cajun/creole food in SF - maybe some Katrina victims with culinary exp. will drift towards the Bay Area and open up some restaurants...) anyway, I was just told about this place, anyone ever been there? Looks a little uppity for my tastes...

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 12 September 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

The restaurant is ironically named, right?

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Monday, 12 September 2005 21:14 (twenty years ago)

I prefer the Slagheap or the Eyesore... Less garnish, but the food is more raw.

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Monday, 12 September 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

haha: "Just like New Orleans" = "overpriced and uppity".

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 12 September 2005 21:22 (twenty years ago)

Cherry bar used to be a lesbian bar. Before that it was called "The Covered Wagon' and booked punk, rock and metal bands (mostly punk). It is now a club called "Cherry Bar" with 2 monthly clubs, and live rock bands every other night. It's mostly a straight venue now. The two clubs are "Bootie" where Lance Lockarm just played which is an omnisexual mash-up club (the patrons are as mashed as the music) 2nd Saturdays, and "Leisure" which is all Indie Brit pop 4th Saturdays. Matt Crackwhore still books bands, but at different locations around the city. :-)

mystery girl, Thursday, 15 September 2005 23:41 (twenty years ago)

I just saw Matt in the first time in a while on Wednesday night!

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 16 September 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

Shakey,

Re: I was just told about this place, anyone ever been there? Looks a little uppity for my tastes...

If I'm on Fillmore I sometimes go there for a drink but the food's indifferent except for the oysters...
