I generally eschew anything that already has distribution, which only leaves Hou, Chereau, Hong Sang-soo, maybe the Steve Coogan appearance, and a couple others. Postseason baseball always interferes too.

Postseason baseball always interferes too.

So do 1200 miles.

I'm catching as much as I can but definitely going to see Hou and Park Chan-Wook.

The Baumbach comes out a few weeks after the NYFF.

Tale of Cinema also sounds good.

Well, Toronto has it all over NY in volume; I hope to go there again next year.

Check out any of the Avant-Garde programs? I wonder if Warhol's "Blue Movie" will play around:

The tix this year soared to $20 & 16. Hence, I only bought 3 films (Hou, Chereau, "Through the Forest").

two weeks pass...
If you end up catching any of the Avant-Garde program, definitely try to make it to Secret History of the Dividing Line.

I have an extra ticket for the Graham Greene lecture. If anyone is interested in buying it, email me (the address below works, just with real letters)

I just read the review for Regular Lovers. I'm so sad I missed this. Did anyone see it?

youn, Saturday, 24 September 2005 23:07 (twenty years ago)

I did--it was incredible. I'll elaborate later. I saw Methadonia tonight, which was aboslutely dreadful.

C0L1N B... (C0L1N B...), Sunday, 25 September 2005 03:38 (twenty years ago)

Lucky Londoners can see it in their film festival in October. Sigh.

"Through the Forest" is a nice, camera-gliding (ten long takes) reverie on grief; tips into goofy preciousness, possibly including the two sorta musical numbers. The last scene kinda let me down, who knows why.

Amped for Hou tonight.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

'amped for hou' is lovely. shock and rock.

I give Tristam Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story a big thumbs-up, should my opinion be of any interest. It is a very funny film.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Thursday, 6 October 2005 10:17 (twenty years ago)

Well, overly amped it turns out. I'm pretty much w/ J. Hoberman, the middle part of "Three Times" -- a 'silent' film, in lush color with title cards, music and synched singing -- is the reason to see it. The Lincoln Ctr crowd was audibly squirmy about the rest -- including the cow next to me who chomped on gum for the last third -- and the contemporary story underwhelms like "Millennium Mambo."
