Red hair is the new black hair.

OMG I just remembered that I saw a CUTIE MCCUTE girl with dyed red hair in Montreal when I was sixteen, and I wrote a poem about her.

Oh wait, never mind, I'm wrong: she just had red shoes.

Where is the "i'm in a hotel room" thread?

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Friday, 26 August 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

>sorry i missed you alan!! complicated times.<

Don't sweat it. I might go back up this winter, should I find 3 days off in a row (and I can make it so, should I need) by myself. As it was, we didn't do anything very adventurous; my travel partner ended up getting tired from all the walking and would retreat to the hotel for internet and TSN. But I must still conquer cheap french cuisine and the nightlife, so I will be back.

edit: Argentina? Woah. Buenos Aires?

Alan Conceicao (Alan Conceicao), Friday, 26 August 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

that's the one!!

Family? Recreation? Work?

(heh. I'll buy you as many rounds as you want if you can ever find out what the hell is going on with Parque de la Ciudad. probably find somewhere that'll put it in print too, whether it be Amusement Today or some other trade/hobby paper)

Alan Conceicao (Alan Conceicao), Friday, 26 August 2005 21:31 (twenty years ago)

i would say... recreation. what's the parque de la ciudad?

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 26 August 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

Its a now defunct amusement park in Buenos Aries. Apparently, it was publicly owned, but had a ton of dirty business surrounding it. There's huge rides sitting there on site that no one really knows where they're going, or if its reopening. Almost all the rides, AFAIK, aren't even yet for sale, and there's a ton of really unique stuff sitting there. Some of it was never finished in the first place during inital construction in 83/84.

that sounds completely awesome.can i visit it?

The address RCDB shows is incomplete, but a further search finds it at the intersection of Avda. Cruz and Escalada. It also has a stop off the Premetro reserved solely for it. I don't have any contact info (the park may still be closed now, its totally unknown, as no updates have come out since early 2004), but here's some info from a post on rec.roller-coaster a few years back regarding it (contributed by current lurker Steven Wilson, not of Porcupine Tree or The Incredible Expanding Mindfuck):

>>The scandal was related to official corruption that plagued the
park project, particularly with respect to importation of the rides.
The case was highly-publicized and the park's original name, Interama,
practically became synonymous with "scandal" in Argentina. As part of
the proceedings, the park was padlocked at one point. Eventually, the
park was taken over by the city of Buenos Aires, renamed Parque de la
Ciudad, and reopened. Over the years, a number of suitors have been
interested in acquiring the immense park. Reportedly no acquisition
deals have ever been able to go through because of unresolved lawsuits
that date back to the scandal in the 1980s. The Buenos Aires
metropolitan area has a population of more than 12 million people,
making Parque de la Ciudad a potentially very attractive park property
for acquisition.
