They've arrested loads of people, dunno if theyve charged anyone yet.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 26 August 2005 06:30 (twenty years ago)

From the BBC news site:

"Paul Taylor, 20, and Michael Barton, 17, are currently in custody awaiting trial, charged with Anthony's murder. They are also accused of grievous bodily harm."

Guilty Boksen (Bro_Danielson), Friday, 26 August 2005 07:11 (twenty years ago)

Did they catch the guy who stabbed that man to death on a night bus a few weeks back?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 26 August 2005 09:28 (twenty years ago)

Also what's the latest on the guy who beheaded that other guy and then said "He deserved it" or something when the police arrived?

Sorry to be morbid, it's the press who gets everyone all interested in these sensational stories and then you miss the update.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 26 August 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

Stabbing suspect arrested.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 26 August 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

Tom, I was wondering about that one myself. It was in Highbury or somewhere, wasn't it?

NickB (NickB), Friday, 26 August 2005 09:37 (twenty years ago)

"it's the press who gets everyone all interested in these sensational stories and then you miss the update."

We have a very clever system of waiting so long before we actually bring people to trial that by the time we do most people have completely forgotten about the original case or have assumed that it must have been resolved long ago, so the newspapers are able to run the stories all over again and we actually think these are new cases.

The positive side of this is that actually there's only about half as much violent crime going on as you might imagine based on what's reported in the papers.

Man remanded on axe murder charge

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 26 August 2005 09:38 (twenty years ago)

"He is due to appear at the Old Bailey on 23 March."

Do you see what I mean?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 26 August 2005 09:40 (twenty years ago)

Blimey: Waiter admits motiveless axe killing

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 26 August 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

Jerry has a scrapbook of things like this, that's why he finds them so quickly.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 26 August 2005 09:42 (twenty years ago)

I think it was the Craig David new jacuzzi story which kept that page uppermost in the Mind of the Nipper.

Sentencing to take place on my mum's birthday. I wonder if I can get her tickets.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 26 August 2005 09:44 (twenty years ago)

"Sentencing to take place on my mum's birthday. I wonder if I can get her tickets."

What a thoughtful gift idea - so much better than sending her to see something predictable like Phantom or Les Mis!

I wonder if there's anything suitably violent or depraved going to court on my Mum's birthday....

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 26 August 2005 09:48 (twenty years ago)

If there isn't, start your own planning today!

LeCoq (LeCoq), Friday, 26 August 2005 09:52 (twenty years ago)

Oh you Brits and your axe killings ...

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 26 August 2005 11:25 (twenty years ago)

Can you imagine what we'd be like if we were allowed to have guns? It'd be like a shooting range on every high street...

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Friday, 26 August 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

If you had guns you'd be like Americans! Can't be havin' that.

I can't decide if it'd be worse to die by gunfire or axe. Axe sounds like it'd hurt more, and def. be messier, but I also could (perhaps) out-run an axe murderer. Axes are pretty hefty.

On a less "totally disrespectful" line of thinking... all of these murders are really awful.

Jacqui Pickles (Jacqui Pickles), Friday, 26 August 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

"If you had guns you'd be like Americans!"

We do have guns, we just prefer to perpetuate the old traditional methods wherever possible out of respect for our cultural heritage.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 26 August 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

So why no muskets? Murder by musket: *there's* a crime of passion!

Evanston Wade (EWW), Saturday, 27 August 2005 01:52 (twenty years ago)

The headline of this made me think it was going to be something that UK ILXers were being held responsible for.
