Not that different from the county-by-county map, really.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Friday, 26 August 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

nor from the first map - all you've shown is that Iraq deaths are proportionally distributed across the US-by-population-density

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 26 August 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

Or LIBERAL PANTYWAISTS CAN'T FIGHT!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 26 August 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

Sigh. The point is that urbanites, very likely poor ones, are who are fighting this war - and they (surprise) tend to vote democratic.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Friday, 26 August 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

yes teacher.

but your map doesn't support that point. it shows a distribution similar to that of the population at large over urban, suburban and rural areas. even if the map did show that the deaths were disproportionately concentrated in urban areas, that would tell us nothing about the voting habits of the infinitesimally small subset of urbanites who have died in the Iraq war.

yep

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Friday, 26 August 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

Further, it's not even primarily poor people fighting the war. New York Times recently had an article showing that 80% are from the middle class (which they call households with $40 000 plus) and that 2/3 have some college education. A lot's changed since Vietnam.

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 26 August 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

a lot has changed, in that we're sending a lot of national guard soldiers, yes. hence the middle classness.

Well, hey. At least the students of Kent State can breathe a little easier.
