Robinho

I just watched Robinho's debut for Real Madrid. Obviously a kid joining a team with stars like Beckham, Raul, Ronaldo and Zidane isn't going to find it easy to turn heads, but he came on as a sub here (replacing Gravesen! Hard to imagine more of a contrast) and within minutes I was 100% convinced that he is going to be a colossal sensation. His first touch was flicking the ball over an opponent's head to go past him. He has stepovers that beat those of the Man U Ronaldo, for speed and variety. But while there are people here who will be going 'bah fannydangle' he seems to have the same sharpness of mind and eye for an incisive pass of someone like a Beardsley, say, and he put Ronaldo through for the winner, and set up another great chance where Helguera hit the bar, in a matter of a few minutes.

I know all the teen sensation stuff in this country is about Rooney, and they are different players, but I think Robinho might well become an all-time great, insane as it is to say that after some minutes (though I had seen a bit before).

he's no Carlos Tevez (who, it appears is a complete nutter!)

Hey Dom, what about Cavenagghi though?

I hope he's another great show pony at the Bernabeu. As far as I'm concerned the worse they do (but the prettier they play) the better for football. But I do reckon Rooney is a better player in the real (oops), ugly world.

he should've joined the PSV squad just as Romario & Ronaldo did when they came to Europe.

Snotty, I think Robinho will be even better than Rooney - I was suspecting the show pony/fannydangle option at first, but the incisiveness of what he did bore no resemblance to the early months of Christian Ronaldo - it was with a purpose, and it caused damage.

they're all gone now.. thanks to the Spurs and ManU..
oh well. That's what you get when you play well in the CL. :(

remember though that c.ronaldo did a devestating substitute cameo against weak opposition in his united debut, and then followed it with a few months of fannydangle

Of course I forget that he's already proved his worth in Brazil, so perhaps he's got the fannydangling out of his system. Was it his mam who was kidnapped?
