I know nothing at all about Dublin...

except that I'd like to meet ILXors there and drink with them. So this is a thread about that plus suggestions on where to go, what to see etc. if anyone has them.

U & K Suggestion #1: GO TO RONAN'S CLUB IF IT IS ON

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:01 (twenty years ago)

incidentally, I'm in dublin tomorrow evening if anyone would like a quiet beer.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

I forgot about this.

Raston Warrior Robot (alix), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

This is going to be a thread where we realise that no one actually likes us, isn't it?

Raston Warrior Robot (alix), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:11 (twenty years ago)

See you there, chums.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:13 (twenty years ago)

Do we have to be old hands or is anyone allowed turn up?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

Blimey! Yes, something should be arranged, Ed.

Things to do in Dublin: Er, I've no idea. Ronan's club U&K of course. Cultural tours, ghost tours, bouze tours and literary pub crawls are all available.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

We should have some rain in, if you'd be interested?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

Do we have to be old hands or is anyone allowed turn up?

New hands are the best hands.

This is going to be a thread where we realise that no one actually likes us, isn't it?

Don't be ridiculous, you are incurably popular.

See you there, chums.

Yay!

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:20 (twenty years ago)

Come out tomorrow, Mr Nolan, and you'll be an old hand by the time September rolls around.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

I'm staying at Bewley's Hotel, Merion Road, Ballsbridge (It's near my client's offices).

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

Ah right. It's about 15-20 minutes walk from here, and not a million miles from other ILXors either. Though the map on their website has them on a space identified on the streetmap as "Masonic School"

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

Is Alix the same person as Lixibell, or is that someone else? Maybe I will come to Ronan's club with you.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

Yes that's me. I am mainly Alix these days. Some people do have other names for me.

Raston Warrior Robot (alix), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

Ed, are you secretly going to Freemason School? Why didn't you *tell* me?!?!

Luminiferous Aether (kate), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:51 (twenty years ago)

I need to book a hotel still. We found a cheap deal for the Camden Court Hotel (it has a pool!) but the 'submit' button on the website didn't bloody work and lastminute and other sites charged far more. So, any recommendations for accommodation are most welcome.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:57 (twenty years ago)

They're Catholic Masons. You have to roll up the other trouser-leg.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:57 (twenty years ago)

Cheers mr Farrell. Not so sure I can make tomorrow as need to tent buy for the weekend. What is happening?

Accommodation: Some people think Isaacs Hostel is great, it's near the Custom House, you'd think I'd know street names but I'm afraid I'm thick. The other options are: Bloom Hotel in Temple BAr, it has a sliding rule price policy (ie less empty cheaper etc) and is normally phenomenally cheap for it's location or if that seems too close to town for comfort there is always: Barnacles Hostel, The Uppercross Hotel in Rathmines, O'Neills on Pearse Street or you could always luck out on the Jurys around and about.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 13:03 (twenty years ago)

Could someone any use with punctuation fix that last post? The eternal shame of the bad grammaticist!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

Er, my sister will have completely moved out of her room in our apartment, so ye can stay there if you want (this is pending me asking her this evening). The bed's not exactly King Size, but is definitely suitable for double occupancy. A week or so later she'll be staying in it again, so it's unlikely that she'll have de-furnished it.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

That's very kind of you/your sister! I'll mail you later...

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

i will be attending whatever festivities are planned for this visit.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

I've stayed at the Isaacs Hostel. It is very central indeed. So much so that there was a train going right past my bedroom window (and therefore head). Very cheap though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

I remember I used to see that place from the train when I was at school. Because it was down a backstreet, I thought it must be a brothel.

Anyway, I was explaining to Andrew by conversationmail yesterday that I will probably be able to join any action tonight, but not till later.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 1 September 2005 09:13 (twenty years ago)

So much so that there was a train going right past my bedroom window (and therefore head).

Another night of wild sexual abandon held up to the gaze of random googlers everywhere.

You will always be Lixibell to me, Raston Warrior Robot.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Thursday, 1 September 2005 10:02 (twenty years ago)

Anu from Freeform Five is playing our club that night!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 1 September 2005 10:13 (twenty years ago)

Awesome!

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 1 September 2005 10:15 (twenty years ago)

I want to be in Dublin! Maybe, sometime.

Things you should do which I failed to do:

1) Go to the Viking Museum.
2) Go to drag queen bingo.

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 1 September 2005 11:57 (twenty years ago)

that damn viking museum! someday i'll see it.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 1 September 2005 12:01 (twenty years ago)

Best suggestions yet! Are they real though?

Raston Warrior Robot (alix), Thursday, 1 September 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

1) is real enough, though it closes too early.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 1 September 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

No need to buy tent, it appears we have a friend willing to risk the lend of his. What was the story re mini FAP this evening? If I can overcome crippling fear of crazy people on interweb I might chance it

They're real. Shirley Temple Bar is the hostess/compere and is meant to be v funny. The George is fierce grotty mind. Do the Viking Splash tour since I have a sneaking suspicion that the museum is closed but I'm too lazy to check online.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 1 September 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

you guys should go check out the newt on issac hostel's roof

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 September 2005 12:06 (twenty years ago)

take pictures in front of the whopper.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 1 September 2005 12:06 (twenty years ago)

Oh shit I completely forgot about this! And now I can't go out, anyway. Really sorry, Ed!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 1 September 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

the walls in the viking museum are made from cow dung and reeds.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 1 September 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

The Whopper!

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 1 September 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

Ally what is this Whopper? I have visions of people posing with thumbs up in front of Burger King on Grafton Street. Not that far off from reality I'd say, bloody Italian teenagers hanging around there getting in my way grrrr

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Friday, 2 September 2005 08:26 (twenty years ago)

do they mean the BIG POINTY SHINY THING?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 2 September 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)

The spire? I've never heard it called the whopper. But then there isn't any Dublin landmark that I've heard called that.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 2 September 2005 08:40 (twenty years ago)

the mental guide on our open top bus tour called it "der stilletto in de ghetto" and some other rhyming things i can't remember...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 2 September 2005 08:41 (twenty years ago)

Which replaced the Anna Livia statue, the rhyming name for which is visible down the bottom of the page. We probably have people employed by the tourist agency to come up with this kind of stuff.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 2 September 2005 08:50 (twenty years ago)

I like the name 'Pole in the hole'. Any suggestions for Phil Lynnots statue? If Joyce is the Twat in the Hat I suggest the scally in the alley. Crap, I know.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Friday, 2 September 2005 09:54 (twenty years ago)

yes, it's the spire. we thought 'the whopper' sounded much more exciting than 'the spire.'

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 2 September 2005 10:33 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
bump

pub on Friday night - you should come! just need to pick a place (but i don't know any, so please help me there thanks now)

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

Right, if I can make it (looks a bit dodge at the mo, mother over visiting etc) could I suggest somewhere quiet to start and where people'll stick out because I don't know what anyone looks like! My suggestion is somewhere like Kennedys on Westland Row (near the national gallery). It's never too packed.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 10:32 (twenty years ago)

sounds good to me :)

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 10:38 (twenty years ago)

Grand stuff. What time would suit? I finish work very nearby around half five or I can potter off and do other things beforehand. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 10:52 (twenty years ago)

Kennedys! wow, old school.

Is O'Farrell coming along or will he have moved to the internet by friday?

I know what Lixi looks like (or looked like a couple of years ago), but SteveM and Kv_Nol are people of mystery.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 11:12 (twenty years ago)

wear a pink carnation in your left lapel

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 11:28 (twenty years ago)

Ronan, we agreed that you are looking very well these days. And also very well.

Mädchen (Madchen), Monday, 3 October 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

Lads, not a worry. Couldn't do anything on saturday anyway as had to entertain the aul wan with DVDs and wine. 2 weeks notice, cracking film. Great that you had a good night Stevem & Alix. Sorry I'll be missing your housewarming now but my spirit will be there!

Ronan, someday I'll forgive you ;) Straight back at you Killian

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Monday, 3 October 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

2 weeks notice, cracking film.

Please tell me that's that famous Irish sense of humour at work.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 3 October 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

Ronan, we agreed that you are looking very well these days. And also very well.
-- Mädchen (madchen_in_unifor...), October 3rd, 2005. (later)

thanks alot! I have been working out 24/7.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 3 October 2005 21:08 (twenty years ago)

Ailsa, please note the mitigating factor of wine above. Nah, I thought it was funny in parts and perfect for a saturday.

Ronan, you are a liar. I know for a fact that you were out drinking on Friday. For shame.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 07:49 (twenty years ago)

did you meet that dude who kicked me out of his house for not sucking his dick?

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 07:50 (twenty years ago)

No. No I don't think we did. Unless you mean Andrew who was more than happy to let Steve and Alix stay and... oh my god...

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 07:56 (twenty years ago)

That Andrew.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 08:00 (twenty years ago)

that damn viking museum! someday i'll see it.

the viking museum was pretty cool from the outside, which i only saw because after i got kicked out of that dude's house for not sucking his dick, i was broke and had to sleep in the doorway of a fancy kitchen supply store on this sloped cobblestone street that led into the viking museum but then there were scary dudes jerking off across the street. anyways, im sure ive told this story a million times but only because im very bitter about that whole night. and it was raining.

(it wasn't andrew!!)

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 08:01 (twenty years ago)

(it was a sinister'ite!!!)

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 08:02 (twenty years ago)

Ouch. Both for being kicked out and anything to do with B&S.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 08:22 (twenty years ago)

N@me & sh@me, Phil!

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 16:04 (twenty years ago)

I got my photos back (IE I eventually got off my hinder to stick them on my PC and thus on the internet)

Kevin expounds about something!

http://static.flickr.com/32/49709797_ca8cfee0a3.jpg

I really don't know what's happening in this photo.

http://static.flickr.com/30/49709798_f7fedd16c5.jpg

Not only is this not a surprise photo, they (Steve) asked for it to be redone because the first one didn't come out right.

http://static.flickr.com/31/49709799_08fb02a827.jpg

Inside Fitzers the next night. As far as we are aware, Ronan and Lara did not arrange their wardrobes specifically.

http://static.flickr.com/25/49709800_9bad4c36e8.jpg

And outside Fitzers before we went home like old people. Steve, Ronan, Madchen, Lara, Alix, Sally (not technically speaking of this parish)

http://static.flickr.com/24/49709796_204273a9f1.jpg

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

OMG, Stevem and Ronan are in the same photo and the world has not imploded as a result!

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

It's just a VERY long exposure.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

I love Madchen's "you're taking my photo aren't you, grrrr" face. I need to develop one of those.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

(haha, "develop" - "photo" - I appear to have turned into ken c)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

You'd never guess I'd been drinking(!) That camera is too good, needs more blurring next time. I'm sad now I missed the Saturday but obviously you were all very well behaved, where is the wine for the glasses? Shocking.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 6 October 2005 10:29 (twenty years ago)

Oh and vanity compels me to state that I got my hair cut yesterday so I don't look THAT bald! I've even got gel in it and everything: "Oh brave new world that hath such people in it etc."

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 6 October 2005 10:48 (twenty years ago)

I am interrupting my ILX hiatus (it's been 16 hours now, including sleeping) to thank Andrew for such nice photos, for I am pleased with the way I have come out in them, figuratively speaking. It is also nice to see KV_nol's delightful face again and be reminded of his ROFL prowess - although I am sad YMOF does not appear in any pics himself.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 6 October 2005 10:52 (twenty years ago)

Why sir, I blush to my thick low hairline! We ALL look gorgeous and fabuliscious (a word that will live on in infamy from that night).

Cheers Andrew tho, forgot to say it earlier in my haste to complain and set the record straight.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 6 October 2005 11:10 (twenty years ago)

I look like a gimp.

Robot warrior, warrior robot (alix), Thursday, 6 October 2005 11:17 (twenty years ago)

I love Madchen's "you're taking my photo aren't you, grrrr" face. I need to develop one of those.

Actually, I think that's her "Make sure you're making the most of my profile" look!

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 6 October 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)

you mean pimp (xpost)

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 6 October 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)

'my profile' = 'concorde nose, weak jaw, bumchin'

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 6 October 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

fathands? Alix? 'Sup girly? You look sober that's all that matters in the courts!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 6 October 2005 12:36 (twenty years ago)

you all look lovely

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 6 October 2005 12:38 (twenty years ago)

high praise indeed!

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 6 October 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

One's profile is not only of one's face.

btw, I agree with RJG, especially about the least tall one.

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 6 October 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

I am Alix. I was not sober, nor especially drunk either. I was in that strange place place where, at the time you think you're pretty ok and lucid, then wake up feeling rough, having frogrotten chunks of the previous night.

Robot warrior, warrior robot (alix), Thursday, 6 October 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

Frogrotten chunks? Ew.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 6 October 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

Haha. Yes, hangovers do get worse with age.

Robot warrior, warrior robot (alix), Thursday, 6 October 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

That's a bad place, it totally feels like a lack of value for money! My next day was grand except for the phone call at 10 from the delivery guy dropping off a washing machine and dryer that needed installing with hyper spanish flatmate flitting around. Laugh? I nearly died.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 6 October 2005 14:12 (twenty years ago)

I think we look like a dodgy indie band.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 6 October 2005 15:42 (twenty years ago)

Also - thanks for flagrantly breaking the 'No photos of Lara on ILE' ban, Andrew.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 6 October 2005 15:45 (twenty years ago)

: )

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 6 October 2005 16:04 (twenty years ago)

If there's a ban on no photos, he's done the right thing.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 6 October 2005 16:17 (twenty years ago)

Well, that list of names is in random order, of course.

(Sorry. Should I destroy the evidence?)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 6 October 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

Did that look snippy? I didn't mean it like that! I should have put a ;-) at the end.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 6 October 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

I was talking to Lara, bum-chin.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 6 October 2005 16:20 (twenty years ago)

So was I, O'Farrell.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 6 October 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

Delete it, please.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 7 October 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

Fascist censorship! This is how the nazis got started ;)

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Saturday, 8 October 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)

No surviving Nazis know where I live.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Saturday, 8 October 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

Is it in a bunker under navan with the Haughey diaries and the deeds for kinsealy? Just a guess like...

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Saturday, 8 October 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

But I do, at least for the next few weeks. Take down the pictures will ya? Or at least blob me out.

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 9 October 2005 10:44 (twenty years ago)

Sorry! I told Flickr to set the photos to 'private' about five minutes after you asked. I thought this would avoid the problem, clearly I was wrong. Gone now.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Sunday, 9 October 2005 11:10 (twenty years ago)

I can still see them!

(lara, you have a lookylikey in Glasgow, I waved at her before I realised it probably wasn't you. Unless it was you, in which case, you never waved back)

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 9 October 2005 11:14 (twenty years ago)

My twin is such a bitch.

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 9 October 2005 11:20 (twenty years ago)

I think you can see them because they're still in your browser's short term memory, Ailsa. If you hadn't already looked at them, you couldn't now.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Sunday, 9 October 2005 11:35 (twenty years ago)
