Getting from Brest to Madrid as cheaply as possible

I've spent at leat 25 minutes online looking for information which might help me with this, but I'm getting nowhere and my fingers are starting to hurt slightly. Does anyone where I can get information about buses in France? I'd be well grateful.

Trains can be very cheap in france if you book ahead, even cheaper if you don't use the TGV. Brest-Rennes-Nantes-La Rochelle-Bordeaux-Irun/Hendaye-Madrid would be your slow cheap route to Madrid I think.

How do you book though? I'm trying to get from Bordeaux to San Sebastien and I cant find any website that allows me to book a train that goes from France to Spain....

Thanks very much Ed. Do you have any idea how long that would take, though? I'm trying to avoid the expense and hassle of getting off and staying in hotels and the like.

Could be done in a long day, or a day plus a night. (night train from Hendaye-Madrid)
